Qaqortoq in Greenland

My first step in Greenland was to a town called Qaqortoq, the fourth largest town in the country. It was a fairly small town. Our ship had to moor further out in the sea and all passengers had to take a tender - a smaller ship to take us on shore. As I got off the tender some people were already going back to the ship. Unlike us, where our day starts at 10am 😅 some were perhaps early risers and had already done the tour of the town. And many others were people working on the ship, taking advantage of the few hours they had off from work in the morning

Famous landmarks

There are two main museums in the town, the Qaqortoq Museum located in a blacksmith built in 1804, the oldest building in the town. It was fairly small and very busy with many cruisers visiting all at the same time, and I didn't manage to get any good photos. The other museum is the Norse Museum, just across the road. This yellow building is a little newer than the Qaqortoq Museum, it dates back to 1874. Both museums were quite interesting, especially if you like Norse history.

Another famous landmark in town is the Mindebrønden memorial fountain. It was built in 1932 and is the oldest fountain in Greenland. There are three whales at the top and water is supposed to sprout from the blowholes at the top. It looked very sad as there was no water in the fountain. I read online that they close the water off during the winter months. September isn't exactly winter yet, it would have been nice if they kept it on, or at least turned it on for the day. Around 30 cruise ships stop by each year, and now you have 3000 people from one cruise ship who go away disappointed and tell their friends and family about this sad fountain that has no water. It's not exactly very good to promote tourism.

The Stone and Man sculpture is an open air art project. Back in the 90s, a local artist with the help of other nordic artists, carved a lot of sculptures around town. Most are of fishes and whales, reflecting local life, as well as traditional designs. Qaqortoq isn't big, and it's fun to try find them as you walk around town.

Hiking at Qaqortoq

I read there was a nice viewpoint in town that involved climbing up 200 stairs. That was manageable and easy I thought. Somehow I must have took the wrong turning and went the opposite the direction. I didn't realise it because the scenery was very pretty. We went past a cemetery (more on that in another post)

We went past a satellite on the way up, it was enclosed, I reckon it might be out of use now. I found that very interesting as I used to work in telecoms and rarely got to see a satellite so up close and personal.

After a bit more uphill climbing, we reached a flat plateau with a gorgeous view of the town below us.

We continued to climb and got to the top of the view point. From here, the town was even further away, and I could see our ship moored out from the port. There was another satellite next to the old one I went past earlier on. That's probably the town's main connection to the outside world. It was quite a view up here, and I'm glad I took the wrong turning and ended at the Qaqortoq Viewpoint. Sometimes mistakes can be good.

Continuando con mi recorrido por la zona de San Luis, quisiera compartir mi visita a la playa del mismo nombre. Durante mi caminata, me detuve a observar unas aves que jugaban tranquilamente en el mar, manteniendo una distancia respetuosa para poder fotografiarlas. Estos amigos emplumados ciertamente saben disfrutar de los encantos del océano; en todas mis visitas a este lugar, esta fue la primera vez que vi tantos pelícanos juntos: revoloteando y, tras realizar diversas acrobacias aéreas, nadando muy relajados en el agua.

Después de observarlos durante unos minutos, tomé el sendero que marca la entrada a la playa; este presenta letras blancas sobre fondo azul y está decorado con imágenes de diversos animales marinos. Al igual que en otras playas, se han instalado refugios tradicionales con techo de paja a lo largo de la orilla, lo que permite a los visitantes disfrutar de la agradable brisa marina y del sonido de las olas mientras se protegen del sol. El camino también cuenta con bancos de piedra y hormigón donde los visitantes pueden reunirse y socializar. En ese preciso momento, una embarcación realizaba su recorrido y varias personas llegaban a la playa. Durante el trayecto, también se pueden ver diversas plantas de Uvero, típicas de esta región, creciendo junto a las palmeras.

Continuing my tour of the San Luis area, I would like to share my visit to the beach of the same name. During my walk, I paused to watch some birds playing peacefully in the sea, keeping a respectful distance so I could photograph them. These feathered friends certainly know how to enjoy the ocean's charms; in all my visits to this spot, this was the first time I had seen so many pelicans together—fluttering about and, after performing various aerial acrobatics, swimming quite relaxed in the water.

After watching them for a few minutes, I took the path marking the entrance to the beach; it features white lettering on a blue background and is decorated with images of various marine animals. As with other beaches, traditional thatched-roof shelters have been set up along the shore, allowing visitors to enjoy the pleasant sea breeze and the sound of the waves while staying protected from the sun. The path also features stone and concrete benches where visitors can gather and socialize. Just then, a boat was making its rounds, and several people were arriving at the beach. Along the way, one can also see various Uvero plants—typical of this region—growing alongside the palm trees.

Beautiful sunset views at Cochaima Beach (Eng - Esp)

Sunset is one of my favorite times of day, and I truly enjoy watching the beautiful colors that paint the sky as the sun goes down. During my visit to Cochaima Beach, I took the opportunity to watch the sunset; I must say the views were incredible, with the sky and the sea both bathed in a lovely golden hue. Seeking an angle that would capture the mountain, the sea, and the sand, I walked a fair distance along the beach and took several photographs—all of which I really liked.

I couldn't choose a favorite, as each one captures a different moment of the sunset and the way the light played upon the water. The first shot shows part of the mountain surrounding the beach—which is also part of Mochima National Park—while another focuses on a beautiful boat near the mountain, with the sun's reflection creating a sort of golden path across the sea. Finally, there is a view featuring the mountain, waves stirred by the wind, and the sun painting the sky gold, creating a truly stunning and incredible scene.

El atardecer es una de mis momentos favoritos del día y realmente disfruto observar los hermosos colores que pintan el cielo, cuando el sol se está ocultando, durante mi visita a playa Cochaima aproveché la oportunidad para observar el ocaso del sol, debo decir que las vistas son increíbles, el cielo se tiñó de un lindo color dorado al igul que el mar, buscando un ángulo que pudiera abarcar la montaña, el mar y la arena, avancé varios metros por la playa y tomé alguna fotografías que me gustaron todas.

No pude elegir mi favorita, pues cada una de ellas refleja diversos momentos del ocaso del sol y su incidencia en el mar, en la primera se aprecia parte de la montaña que rodea esta playa y que también forma parte del parque nacional Mochima, luego enfoqué un hermoso bote cerca de la montaña y el reflejo del sol formó una especie de caminería en el mar, a continuación se observa la montaña las olas movidas por el viento y el sol pintando de dorado el cielo ofreciendo hermosas e increíbles vistas.

Homegrown Ginger & Chicken Tinola for My Little One 💛

‎My little Aiden has been sick for two days now, and he’s slowly getting better. Though he still needs nourishing food to help him regain his strength.

‎I thought about what to cook that would be easy on his tummy and warm. Right away, Chicken Tinola came to my mind.

‎It has a light, gingery broth that is exactly what he needs right now. 💛

‎And because we have our own little garden, I didn’t need to rush to the market for ginger. I just stepped out and harvested.

‎Some plants are still small because we only planted them recently, but I carefully chose the bigger ones.

‎And look! There was already nice, fresh ginger attached to the roots. 😍 It made me so happy.

(Ghosts of) The Living Stones from Garbova | Let's travel together #370

Although I am obssesed to explore less known places offered by nature at no cost, not for a couple of times I mentioned that it's a lot better for some of these to remain forever unknown to people.

It's not like some parts of Romania wouldn't deserve a bit more popularity when it comes to tourists, but because people are the worst species that currently exists on this planet, and I think we can all agree on that by simply looking on how life currently looks like, with wars going on, lots of global warming and pollution, but also ruined places at every step for no reason.

On a similar note, today's post is not going to be one of those that I recommend visiting because the images will speak for themselves.

While not too long ago I came here with an article about The Living Stones from Daia, which represents such a unique place for Romania but which was fully ruined by the locals who picked it as a 'destination' for their garbage, today's post is not too far from that situation either.

Actually, this time the main focus is on the ghosts of what we used to call 'living stones' or 'trovants' because the only ones that can be found in Garbova are remains of it, while pretty much everything was stolen by the locals who picked the natural monuments as decorations for their own courtyards.

For some it might sound funny, for others it might equally hurt as it felt when I faced that situation, because this kind of living stones were actually quite rare to observe on the territory of Romania until a while ago, when a few more locations popped up here and there, mentioning that the mysterious stones started to appear.

From my experience visiting these kinds of places, there were always two types of people. The first one brings lots of stories with him, such as the stones are actually growing up and share a weird energy while being around them, while the 2nd category is that of admiring what nature blessed us with, since we can all agree that these are not some of the most common stones one would see.

Their most common shape is that of a sphere, but they also can have some other shapes like that of a UFO or irregular shapes. But in all cases, they are quite large and never have a regular shape, which makes them easy to be observed even from a distance.

Sadly, that was not the case when I visited The Living Stones from Garbova because all you could see were only parts of these, or the scratches left on the stone walls by excavation vehicles that made their way here with the strong purpose of extracting all these stones before they even got the chance to make it to the surface on their own.

It's sad, but it's the cruel reality.

In fact, funny or not, if you set up your GPS on Google Maps towards "Trovantii din Gârbova", the GPS indications will stop on the main road, which is also facing the main courtyard where all these stones were taken to.

On a similar note, we were fooled to believe that that was the actual spot of the trovants but got confused when we noticed locals looking weird at us, so we ended up driving on an unpaved road just to lead to the disaster of not finding any living stone, but only remains of it.

Today I am sharing a lot of nature photographs with you all because it was quite busy due to which I could not click many photographs and still I got some time today so I went out for a walk with my friend and today after a long time my step count was also quite good today I did around 17400 steps. It took quite some time to achieve this because I wasn't able to do half my walking, but today was quite good, and I felt quite good. When something good happens, we all feel good afterward, and that's exactly what happened today.

We had gone to Goquette and took a tour of Jamesband,

It was one of our most beautiful experiences.
