Times have changed quite a bit when I watch movies from more than sixty years ago compared to everyday life today; what was shocking back then might not be so shocking now 😅😅 But I don’t think that’s a bad thing, because thanks to science fiction, our ability to adapt allows us to mentally prepare ourselves and learn about ideological conflicts that might arise in the distant or near future as we encounter civilizations beyond our planet Earth 🤓🤓. I think the arrival of a rational, sentient being from the sky—one that isn’t human—has already happened in our species’ past. If that were to happen now, the real question is: why are they visiting us? 🧑🏻‍🚀🧑🏻‍🚀

The Day the Earth Stood Still is a movie I already had an idea about—I knew it was from many decades ago, but not that long ago, haha 😅😅 I was surprised to see that it’s from 1951. It’s incredible to me how such a simple premise—an alien visitor with a message for humanity—can spark so many narrative threads of reflection, analysis, and perspective within us, not just on a science fiction level, but also on a religious one, which is the part that, in my case, left me most pensive

Los tiempos han cambiado bastante cuando veo peliculas de hace mas de sesenta años con respecto a la vida cotidiana actual, lo que en aquellos tiempos era impactante, tal vez ahora no tanto 😅😅 pero esto ultimo considero que no es malo porque gracias a la ciencia ficcion, nuestra capacidad de adaptarnos permite que nos vayamos preparando mentalmente y educando sobre conflictos ideologicos que pudieran suceder en un futuro distante o cercano al conocer civilizaciones mas alla de nuestro planeta Tierra 🤓🤓. Movies—and the science fiction genre in particular—have repeatedly shown us war, violence, domination, and the need to defend ourselves at all costs. But what if, in reality, they are actually beings of good will who respect our home? What if they are the good ones and we are the violent ones? 🫤🫤

Beyond all of that, what if they believe in God?.... The very same God you believe in 😱😱

What if a being visiting us from beyond our skies turns out to be exactly like us in appearance and anatomy 😲😲

Speak badly of me, but speak of me. For years, the clichés used in movies have already become part of cinematic history because they carry fundamental weight in certain types of narrative structures, which certainly help not only to create a solid foundation for developing a story, but also help to create a visual and stylized identity (depending on what the essence of each project is). The fact is that, whether loved or not, they can bring "systemic" problems.

Perhaps, the most popular (and most recognizable, because it is more commonly used) is the repetition of standardized ideas that they carry. However, the blame falls much more on those who use them (and how these people use them) than on the clichés themselves. It is quite true that some clichés are so silly or even bad. On the other hand, depending on how they are used in movies, they can be important tools for constructing elements within the plot.

The dilemma here is how to balance this applicability of a narrative device (which may or may not be verbal or visual), because it is according to the quantity, intensity, and execution of the choices that they may - or may not - become a major headache for some screenwriters and directors. Every cinematic genre, over the years, has built its own clichés, and the way they have “evolved” through time is the merit of a small group.

Although it is almost impossible to attribute the merit of this matter to specific names, it is impossible to deny that the history of cinema was (in part) built by what clichés represent. Like any other device, clichés just need to be better chosen (and used) to work according to the atmosphere of the projects in which they are inserted. The problem isn't exactly them... Because they are just an accessory that is part of the whole.

Their essence is so strong that, with just a few seconds of a scene after its projection begins, a particular movie can easily be categorized by a large number of people. Therefore, if they are used the right way, a movie can easily become good in the eyes of the general public because this creates a kind of “bridge” between the fantastic side that is created by the combination of image and sound, and the realistic side that needs to buy into that whole idea.

**El problema con los clichés.**

Hablen mal, pero hablen de mí. Desde hace años, los clichés utilizados en las películas ya forman parte de la historia cinematográfica porque tienen un peso fundamental en determinados tipos de estructuras narrativas, que ciertamente ayudan no solo a crear una base sólida para desarrollar una historia, sino que también ayudan a crear una identidad visual y estilizada (dependiendo de cuál sea la esencia de cada proyecto). El hecho es que, sean amados o no, pueden traer problemas "sistémicos".

Quizás, el más popular (y más reconocible, por ser utilizado con mayor frecuencia) sea la repetición de ideas estandarizadas que llevan consigo. Sin embargo, la culpa recae mucho más sobre quienes los usan (y cómo esas personas los usan) que sobre los propios clichés. Es muy cierto que algunos clichés son tan tontos o incluso malos. Por otro lado, dependiendo de la manera en que sean utilizados en las películas, pueden ser herramientas importantes de construcción dentro de la trama.

El dilema aquí es cómo dosificar esta aplicabilidad del recurso narrativo (que puede o no ser verbal o visual), porque es de acuerdo con la cantidad, la intensidad y la ejecución de las elecciones que pueden - o no - convertirse en un gran dolor de cabeza para algunos guionistas y directores. Todo género cinematográfico, a lo largo de los años, ha construido sus propios clichés, y la manera en que fueron “evolucionando” a través del tiempo es mérito de un pequeño grupo.

Aunque es casi imposible atribuir el mérito de esta cuestión a través de nombres específicos, es imposible negar que la historia del cine fue (en parte) construida por lo que los clichés representan. Al igual que cualquier otro recurso, los clichés solo necesitan ser mejor elegidos (y utilizados) para funcionar de acuerdo con la atmósfera de los proyectos en los que están insertados. Tourists (2006): It’ll Take the Wind Out of Your Sails. There are many magical places in the world to visit and have a good time; we can go to the mountains, play in the snow, visit monuments, and learn about their history; but it’s also wonderful to enjoy the ocean and the beach with friends, dance, and drink until we’re breathless and out of it. However, we can also run into trouble—like waking up to find that everything has been stolen, some friends are gone, or your life is simply in danger; at that very moment, you’ll wish you were home and had never traveled at all. Well, this analogy isn’t far from reality, because we don’t truly know the world or just how dangerous people in those places can be. Just like in the 2006 movie Tourists, where a group of friends set out on an unconventional journey, only to find themselves in a world full of evil; and in the end, Alex and his friends must try to get back home at all costs.

Just Tourists is a reflection on—and a way of understanding—the negative events that can arise when one finds oneself in a place that seems warm and welcoming. It’s a story where a simple vacation can turn into a collective nightmare, casting aside all rationality of the human condition. This film’s story captures the viewer’s interest in a unsettling way; the drama, suspense, horror, and psychological unease not only take hold of the protagonists but also shatter our own sense of calm. What’s most compelling about this story is how incredibly it draws us in, because the antagonist’s dark intentions aren’t revealed right away.

John Stockwell directs this film—a filmmaker whose mission is to create a youthful atmosphere of warmth and friendliness, where the viewer feels safe without suspecting what’s to come. But what’s most striking about his style is the twist he brings to the stories, using that same open environment of pleasure and adventure as a deadly trap that plunges us into utter anxiety and despair. These elements are undoubtedly present in the film Tourists and are not to be missed; but keep an eye out for the details, because it’s not all dancing, drinking, sex, and fun—try to stay calm, and you’ll survive, hehehehehe.

Throughout this story, we can see that there are various characters who, together, create an atmosphere of absolute tension that contrasts with the moments of fun. All the characters fit their roles perfectly, leaving no room for doubt; however, from my perspective, I’m particularly drawn to Josh Duhamel’s performance. An actor we’ve seen in many productions, he’s versatile and here plays Alex—a character with a magnetic personality who serves as the protector, the rational one, and the one who becomes suspicious when he senses danger. His desperation in critical moments is incredibly believable, especially when he has to look after his sister Bea (Olivia Wilde).

Bea is vulnerable when she needs to be, but strong in times of distress; she’s just as rational as Alex, but more adventurous when it comes to breaking the rules; I’m particularly impressed by her performance, which is splendid. Agles Steib plays Kiko, a seemingly kind guy who plays both sides; you’ll notice his very natural acting style. The antagonist is Zamora (Miguel Lunardi)—a man with ice running through his veins, a socially resentful man who doesn’t care about taking others’ lives when they don’t obey his orders; he has very dark intentions that aren’t immediately apparent. This entire cast brings Turistas to life, and I’ll tell you—each actor immerses themselves so deeply in their role that their naturalness is such it feels as fluid as the water flowing through the ravines.

Nicole Kidman delivers a masterful performance as an overprotective and controlling mother who loses her emotional stability to the point of becoming a danger to herself and her children. As the climax approaches, the sense of unease grows; there seems to be no way out amid so much darkness. The introduction of three characters who come to work at the mansion completes the build-up, delivering the final blow to the viewer—a blow they don’t see coming because day and night are indistinguishable; they intertwine, blur, and become one.

The Others builds the tension to such a degree that it becomes unbearable; the voices and the constant external fog create an emotional confinement from which there is no escape. Reality becomes distorted and fractures as the disturbing sounds intensify, and the house turns into a prison.

Although the screenplay doesn't delve into any narrative issue (which makes the entire movie a feature-length movie with almost nothing to say), this is an essential work for understanding Craven's career, because it was precisely here that he began writing his legacy as one of the masters of horror.

In the plot, two young teenagers (Mari and Phyllis) decide to go to a rock concert in a neighboring town to celebrate one of their birthdays. Looking for some pre-show fun, they go out around town (notoriously known for having a not very friendly neighborhood) looking for someone who sells marijuana. The price of this search ends up bringing a lot of regret, because they are kidnapped and held hostage by a group of convicts when they are naively lured to one of their houses in the middle of the night. Such a stupid decision for two girls who seem to be so "smart" (at least at first glance)!

These are not ordinary convicts. They are psychopaths driven by alcohol and drugs, and they indulge brutal desires through violence and sex. Krug is the manipulative leader of the sadists. Sadie is his impulsive girlfriend (but brutally violent when necessary). Fred is a kind of “second-in-command” responsible for the group’s “operational” decisions (and he also has a mind twisted by the desire to kill). Junior is Krug’s son, and lives under his commands. Amid all this chaos, it is never clear what they want, and perhaps that is the “nature” of the movie itself.

This team of villains has very strong characteristics, which are always present throughout the movie. On the other hand, the same can’t be said of the two teenagers; who end up being “underutilized” to the detriment of a decision that brought an unexpected subversion of the protagonism that had until then been in their hands. However, on both sides it was necessary to delve a little deeper into the narrative to build a range of more interesting characters. All the good elements were there, but the screenplay does not offer the proper exploration of these characteristics. The discussions here merely scratch the surface.

¡Un gran saludo a toda la comunidad de Scrobble.Life! 👋 Hoy les traigo una nueva reseña, esta vez dedicada a un clásico de los años 80 que regresa a la gran pantalla para llevarnos nuevamente al mágico y extravagante universo de Eternia. ⚔️✨

En esta ocasión hablaremos de Masters of the Universe, una adaptación que apuesta por la nostalgia, los colores vibrantes y los personajes que marcaron la infancia de toda una generación. ¿Logra esta nueva versión hacerle justicia al clásico? ¡Acompáñenme a descubrirlo!

El origen de la leyenda: De los ochenta a la gran pantalla

Antes de llegar a los cines, He-Man y los Amos del Universo conquistaron el mundo en la década de los 80 gracias a una de las series animadas más variadas de la televisión. La trama era sencilla, pero original: todo ocurría en un planeta llamado Eternia donde la magia y la tecnología convivían, castillos medievales de piedra, naves espaciales, tecnología cibernética y rayos láser. Todos estos elementos se salían por completo de los esquemas habituales de la época.

Además, el carisma de los villanos y lo estrafalario de todos los personajes, le daba a la serie un universo rarísimo, empezando por el protagonista con ese peinado y vestuario tan particular y gracioso que tenía. También, está el icónico Skeletor con su cara de calavera, su personalidad grandilocuente y gestos exagerados. Lo más divertido era cuando insultaba a sus secuaces por su incompetencia, pues siempre lo hacía de una manera cómica.

Algo destacable y súper raro de ver por aquellos tiempos era que, al final de cada episodio, He-Man rompía la cuarta pared, hablándole directamente a la cámara para compartir una pequeña reflexión o moraleja con los niños. Aunque la trama no era compleja, lograron crear un universo fantástico que marcó la infancia de muchos, incluyendo la mía a pesar de que la serie no era de mi época.

Para esta nueva adaptación que se estrenó este mismo año 2026, el director Travis Knight asumió el reto con la idea de que tanto el elenco como la película tomaran con seriedad la esencia emocional de la historia, abrazando la naturaleza disparatada del clásico original.

La Trama: El Viaje a Eternia

La historia nos transporta al planeta de Eternia, un universo mágico y tecnológico a la vez. Todo comienza con un Adam de diez años inexperto y sumamente ingenuo, el cual lleva el peso de asumir su destino como el protector del reino, empuñando la Espada de Poder para convertirse en He-Man. Desde esa corta edad se siente menos que el resto y busca desesperadamente la aprobación de su padre.

Luego, el reino sufre un ataque liderado por Skeletor, el cual se apodera de Eternia y Adam debe ser enviado a la Tierra con la Espada para salvarse y proteger su legado. Durante quince años crece lejos de su origen, viviendo una vida normal como humano, pero sin olvidarse de nada ni de nadie, lo que crea en él una nostalgia permanente de que algo le falta.

Al final, él logra volver a su planeta para cumplir con su misión: frenar las oscuras ambiciones de Skeletor para recuperar el Castillo de Grayskull. En el camino se reencuentra con aquellos héroes que siempre mantuvo en su memoria, luchando junto a ellos en contra de los villanos más icónicos con el objetivo de salvar a su mundo de la ruina.

Nostalgia colorida y aciertos

Un gran acierto en la película fue el rescatar la esencia de la serie original, apostando por una escenografía vibrante y colorida. Si bien es cierto que se pueden apreciar algunos errores, en líneas generales fueron bastante acertados, se notó el esfuerzo en crear las naves lo más parecidas posibles a la caricatura.

También, fue una verdadera sorpresa ver el esmero en diseñar el vestuario de los personajes exactamente como el de los dibujos animados, dignos de cualquier fanático de los años ochenta.

Otro detalle a destacar es el elenco actoral, porque ensamblar a personajes tan estrafalarios y diferentes en una misma narrativa cinematográfica no es nada fácil. Honestamente, antes de ver la película pensé que sería un total desastre por esto mismo, pero me sorprendió que lograran encajarlos a todos.

Jared Leto como Skeletor se llevó la mayoría de los aplausos. Lejos de buscar un calco exacto del personaje, Leto abrazó la naturaleza exagerada y teatral del villano, logrando un equilibrio perfecto que rinde honor al personaje animado. De hecho, regaló momentos divertidos que me sacaron una sonrisa por lo inesperado, destacando las escenas de Skeletor en una oficina de recursos humanos y luego haciendo ejercicio en el gimnasio.

Hola comunidad de Scrobble, ya iniciando octubre y se vienen varias películas de terror como la que hoy escogí, seguramente varios la han visto o al menos oyeron hablar de esta.

Es una película que me ha llamado mucho la atención por la historia que se cuenta, te hace pensar qué cosas pueden ser posibles o no en el mundo de los muertos y obvio si existe este lugar.

Bueno comencemos con la función.

🎬 Un poco de contexto

Una película del gran Tim Burton donde obviamente tenía que estar Johnny Depp, en este caso haciendo la voz de Victor Van Dort (personaje principal). Obviamente que debería ser una gran película cuando están ellos juntos jeje.

Todo empieza con Victor un joven súper introvertido que se había comprometido con Victoria Everglot, una joven de familia recatada y conocida. En estos tiempos aún estaba de moda el que los padres arreglen las bodas de sus hijos por conveniencia y este fue el caso de esta historia.

Lastimosamente, la familia Everglot ya no tenía dinero para mantenerse así que los padres de Victoria contra todo pensamiento, decidieron casar a su hija con Victor que, si bien provenía de una familia humilde y sin renombre, sí tenían una buena situación económica.

Y digo esto porque ellos no querían ni a Victor ni a su familia, pero era la única salida para no ser pobres y dar de qué hablar en la alta sociedad.

Llegó el día en que ambos jóvenes se conocieron y a pesar de los nervios, parecía que ambos se habían gustado desde el primer momento. Además, descubrieron que compartían el gusto por la música.

Ya para ese entonces estaban en los preparativos para la gran boda, mientras practicaban sus votos para el gran día, Victor se puso muy nervioso porque no lograba recordar correctamente sus votos y, durante el ensayo, terminó arruinándolo accidentalmente, así que decidió irse para practicar por su cuenta.

Victor algo preocupado y avergonzado se fue del lugar practicando las frases por las calles, hasta que llegó al bosque donde al fin pudo recitar de forma correcta su parte, y al cerrar su intervención, colocó el anillo en lo que parecía ser una rama para practicar todo lo que tendría que hacer el día de su boda.

De repente vino un viento frío, el cielo parecía oscurecerse aún más y del suelo apareció el cadáver de una mujer. Al escuchar los votos de Victor y ver que le había colocado el anillo, Emily se presentó como su nueva esposa.

Victor muy asustado quiso escapar, pero esta mujer lo atrapó y lo llevó a lo que sería el mundo de los muertos. Al despertar en este lugar, aún muy confundido por lo que había pasado, quiso escapar, pero no sería tan sencillo volver al mundo de los vivos.

♥ Lo que más me gustó

Siempre que veo esta película me preguntó si será posible que pase en la vida real. En base a las historias de terror que escucho y experiencias reales de personas, puedo opinar que es posible un hecho como este.

Me gusta mucho la historia de Victor y Victoria, a pesar de haberse conocido y visto sólo una vez, creo que pudieron intercambiar varias cosas, más que palabras para darse cuenta de que podían formar una bonita familia.

Si bien no estoy de acuerdo con este tipo de matrimonios por interés y que sean arreglados por tus padres, creo que son de las pocas veces que veo que ambas personas si tienen algo en común y que ambos se agraden.

Una escena algo loca pero interesante fue cuando empiezan a contar la historia de la novia muerta. Ella parecía haber encontrado a su verdadero amor y a pesar de que todos prohibieron esa relación, ella se escapó para estar con su prometido. Tristemente aquel hombre sólo quería su fortuna y terminó matándola.

I’m not lying when I say that this is probably the first movie I’ve seen Rupert Grint in that has nothing to do with Harry Potter; there might be one out there somewhere, but honestly, nothing comes to mind. And what a film I’ve chosen: a horror movie that questions—and puts to the test—the idea that motherhood (and fatherhood, too) can be an exercise in tolerance that is incredibly difficult to endure. This raises the question: is a mother's love unconditional? Does it remain the same no matter what? Is it blind? These are the kinds of questions that arise throughout the film as we witness the journey this mother has had to take with her "adorable" son, starting from the very day he was born. Yes, this is a horror movie, but it is a work of folk horror—the kind rooted in local beliefs; in this case, those of the Finnish forests.

No miento si les digo que esta es probablemente la primera película que veo de Rupert Grint que no sea nada de Harry Potter, a lo mejor hay una por ahí pero la verdad es que no se me viene nada a la mente. Y vaya film vengo a escoger, uno de terror en donde se cuestiona y se pone a prueba que la maternidad, y paternidad también, puede ser un ejercicio de tolerancia durísimo de llevar. Es por esto que me hago la pregunta, el amor de una madre es incondicional?, es el mismo sin importar que?, es ciego? - todas estas interrogantes uno se las llega a hacer a lo largo del film al ver todo el camino que a esta madre le ha tocado recorrer con su "adorable" hijo desde el mismo propio día de su nacimiento. Esto es una película de terror, si, pero es uno folclórico, de esos que están apegados a creencias locales, en este caso, de los bosques de Finlandia.

To that end, they decide to move to a remote Finnish forest and live in an old cabin where Saga spent her childhood; they want their children to grow up surrounded by nature. At first, everything is fine—their relationship is better than ever, and it seems they are living the dream—until that dream is shattered, with the turning point being the arrival of their newborn son, Kruuta. A mother knows when something is wrong, and from the very first moment, Saga sensed that something strange was going on with her son, even if she couldn't quite put her finger on it yet.

Al principio todo bien, su vida de pareja está mejor que nunca, todo parece indicar que están viviendo su sueño hasta que simplemente deja de estarlo y el detonante de esta interrupción fue Kruuta, su hijo recién nacido. Una madre sabe cuando las cosas no van bien y Saga desde el minuto uno sabía que algo extraño pasaba con su hijo solo que aún no lo descifraba.

It turns out there are stories and local legends involving the forest surrounding the house; apparently, there is a long-standing connection that has been part of Saga's family for years. As time goes by, the baby becomes increasingly "erratic"—not so much in appearance as in behavior—leading the mother to question many things. As I mentioned, this becomes a true test of motherhood, to the point where a disconnect occasionally develops in the bond between mother and child. The film essentially chronicles the journey the couple must undertake as they face this new reality; the child puts the strength of their relationship to the test, causing it to gradually fracture. The movie serves as a metaphor for the complexities and hardships of motherhood, and for the full range of experiences women may go through.

Hello everyone. I feel that both last year and the current one have been defined by movies leaning heavily into horror or bizarre humor. We’ve seen how certain classics entering the public domain paved the way for somewhat grotesque creations—films that, beyond any logical narrative, simply sought to expose the dark or bloody side of specific characters. Others reminded us that horror or suspense-filled tension can stem from the unexpected, or perhaps from something that has lingered in our minds for years. My sister had told me about a recent movie that reminded her of a childhood classic, though this time around, horror and gore are the main elements. After checking it out and delving deeper into the film, I realized it is indeed one of those movies that evokes a unique reaction in every viewer; so, today I’m going to share my thoughts on the film titled "BUDDY."

Hola a todos, siento que tanto el año pasado como este en curso han estado marcados por películas que buscan mucho ese lado de terror o humor bizarro. Tanto hemos visto como algunos de los clásicos, al pasar a dominio público, dieron paso a creaciones un tanto grotescas y algunas que, más allá del sentido, buscaban simplemente sacar el lado oscuro o sangriento de algunos personajes en concreto. Otras salieron a recordarnos que a veces el terror o el suspenso que genera tensión también puede venir de algo inesperado o tal vez de algo que tuvimos en mente por años. La cosa es que mi hermana me había hablado de cierta película que salió recientemente y cómo le recordaba a un clásico de su infancia, pero en esta ocasión el terror y lo sangriento son su elemento, por lo que luego de ver un poco de esto y ya ahondar en la película, pude ver que en efecto es una de esas que generan sensaciones distintas a cada persona, por lo que, bueno, hoy justamente les daré mi opinión acerca de esta película llamada "BUDDY".

Sin embargo, algo comienza a pasar en torno a Buddy y su cambio de carácter y temperamento, dando paso a un misterio, el cual irá cobrando vidas y poniendo todo cada vez más bizarro y oscuro, tanto para los que están dentro de este programa como para los que están afuera.

The reference everyone makes regarding this movie is obvious; from the very first second, it took me back to memories of playing Barney on DVD for my little sister and watching her sing along, evoking a sense of nostalgia that feels both curious and familiar. That feeling doesn't last long, however; the film is designed to twist those emotions into suspense and terror. Of course, your reaction depends on your tolerance for the bizarre and graphic nature of these uninhibited, uncensored genres. Buddy isn't just a standard horror character who simply pops up; asthe story unfolds, we watch his behavior evolve, shedding the mystery to reveal his true nature. Essentially, he goes from zero to a hundred in terms of graphic intensity, so you need to be mentally prepared—not just for the potential scares, but for the visual discomfort of certain scenes that play out.

In the early 2000s, I was a huge fan of cable TV shows; it was a time when travel and cooking programs were really booming. There was one channel that aired almost all the ones I liked. From that burly, bald man who tried strange foods (I can't recall his name) to shows where chefs prepared recipes, I watched it all; but there was one I loved: No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain.

That was the era of cable TV, and the shows were elaborate productions; yet, what Bourdain did back then is exactly what many travel and food YouTubers do today. It is essentially the same concept; the only difference is that those old shows were filmed with larger cameras and required much bigger production crews.

Bourdain had a style that really connected with the audience; he came across as completely natural and even said things that might get someone "canceled" today. That carefree attitude—enjoying every moment and sharing the experience—was, in my opinion, the key to his television success. When I learned that this movie was a fictionalized version of his youth, I didn't hesitate to watch it right away.

The film focuses on a summer from Anthony Bourdain's youth, back when he was still a student dreaming of becoming a famous writer. Writing was his passion at the time, and the movie reflects that, as well as his air of arrogance—a trait that was already evident back then, even though we, as viewers, enjoyed it in his later shows. He was probably even more arrogant at that stage of his life; when we are very young, we tend to think the world belongs to us and that we are entitled to everything. I find it interesting that the plot revolves around a young woman—his obsession with her and his desire to date her—which drives him to commit very impulsive acts. The film shows what a man is capable of doing for a woman, and yet, women still complain about us; they are truly ungrateful. A man is capable of risking everything for a woman. The kitchen incident shown in the movie was an accident. All that youthful arrogance and the habit of constantly lying to everyone would eventually force young Tony to face a harsh reality check. It is during that summer that he learns important life lessons: the value of trust, the importance of doing things right, and what it means to be a good or bad person.

While watching the movie, I couldn't stop thinking about the real person and his tragic end. The film doesn't address any of that; it focuses solely on one summer, when he was about nineteen years old. Even so, it is impossible not to think about what happened in 2018. Despite leading a seemingly idyllic life—the kind most people dream of—I was one of those who, upon watching his TV shows, assumed he was a very happy man. He had success, fame, and money. Yet, deep down, he was battling severe depression and, of course, addictions to alcohol and drugs—addictions that began precisely during his time as a cook. Incidentally, in real life, he did manage to make his dream of becoming a writer come true; he wrote several books. At first, they didn't have many readers, but once he achieved fame, they became bestsellers.

The paths life presents us with can sometimes be very strange and difficult to decipher, like that of the young man who wanted to be a writer but ended up in a kitchen simply out of necessity. He didn't even like it; He tried to hide it because he didn't want to be seen as a cook, given that he aspired to be a writer. However, that rocky path taught him a new passion—something that would ultimately lead him to become the famous figure he was. It is a very moving and entertaining film. Although it certainly contains more fiction than fact, it is a crowd-pleasing work, and in that sense, it succeeds. Dominic Sessa plays the young Bourdain: a young man who considers himself superior to others and believes his lies fool everyone. However, he is sorely mistaken and learns some hard lessons thanks to the character played by Antonio Banderas. Banderas acts as a mentor, and thanks to him, the young man sets out on the path to culinary school.

The scene where the two characters discuss François Vatel—the famous chef who created Chantilly cream—was truly striking. It is a scene that leaves a deep impression—as I mentioned earlier—given the fate that befell the real-life Anthony Bourdain. The question Tony asks in the film ("Why?") is the same one many of us asked ourselves when we heard the tragic news.
