Cities are constantly renewing themselves and modernizing as new buildings are constructed while others are torn down. Everything evolves, for better or for worse, and that is currently happening in Cumana and its surroundings. Just because we’ve seen a place before doesn’t mean it will remain the same, because even nature transforms, causing us to perceive something different with every glance.

On my recent stroll through Ayacucho Park, I enjoyed walking along the banks of the Manzanares River; the waters looked murky with their brown color but conveyed a sense of tranquility as they flowed gently by. Meanwhile, the sky was a brilliant blue, framing small white clouds that looked enchanting from where I stood.

It was a cool day, so I ventured to the end of the road, the area where the skateboarders used to hang out. To my surprise, the skatepark was gone—they’d completely torn it down. I don’t know why, but there were construction materials lying around, which suggests the city plans to build something new there.

What stood out most was the felling of several trees in the surrounding area, especially in Ayacucho Park near the playground. Ever since a branch fell on a woman several months ago, killing her instantly, a campaign has been underway to cut down large trees—a move that has sparked mixed reactions among residents because no public consultation was held before proceeding with the deforestation.

Now the park has a new look—on the one hand, it’s cleaner, with no leaves or other debris from the trees, but the shade is gone as well, and with it the birdsong and the greenery that delight the senses. Without the trees, the park’s spaces look empty, as if they were extensions of a city framed by iron and concrete. So this scene gave me cause to reflect on life and its dynamism.

Todo va evolucionando, para bien o para mal, y eso actualmente ocurre en Cumaná y sus alrededores. No porque hayamos observado un lugar anteriormente significa que permanecerá igual porque incluso la naturaleza también se transforma y hace que en cada mirada se perciba algo diferente.

En mi reciente paseo por el parque Ayacucho, disfruté de la caminata por las Riberas del Río Manzanares, las aguas lucían turbias por su color marrón pero transmitían tranquilidad al correr de forma sosegada. Por su parte, el cielo me daba su mejor azul que enmarcaba pequeñas nubes blancas, se veían encantadoras desde mi posición.

The Grand Palace: A Beautiful Stop in The Heart Of UNESCO Brussels.

Hello @worldmappin Community!.

After visiting some chocolate shops and beautiful places in Brussels, our trip continued to one of the beautiful places I was really looking forward to seeing—the
La Grand-Place (Grand Square) in French and Grote Markt in Dutch. The Grand Place is one of the hundred photos when you search for Brussels. But seeing it with your own eyes completely feels unreal.

Seeing from afar, there are lots of people walking. And when we approached the Grand Place, I could already see the beautiful historic buildings surrounding the square.

That day the weather kept changing — one minute dark clouds, a little scattered rain, then cloudy and then the next minute sunny again. We came prepared because we checked the weather app and brought folded umbrellas. You can see it in my photos too, the sky was dark but the sun was still shining through.

The Grand Place was part of UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998 because of its architectural and historical significance. What made it even more special because we visited the Grand Place.

Before we entered the open square, we noticed visitors taking photos and touching the statue. Everard 't Serclaes memorial sculpted by Julien Dillens. In their tradition, whenever visitors touch the shiny bronze parts of the statue, it means for good luck that they will return to the city.

Once we entered the open space, I immediately understood why this place is so famous. The Grand Place took my breath away. It is surrounded by stunning architectural buildings and every building is a masterpiece.

Standing in the middle of the square, the buildings feel so much bigger and more impressive. Each architecture of the building has its own details from towering windows, centuries-old statues surrounding us on all sides and historic charm.

Around the Grand Palace, the buildings stand side by side and it creates a perfect blend of elegance and history. Everywhere we looked, it's like an open-air museum.

My husband decided that it must be better to stay in a nearby café and have a cup of espresso. We slowly walked around the Grand Place, enjoying the surroundings and taking plenty of photos.

The “French” Salad that isn’t French

Okay… I think I just discovered a Slovenian culinary conspiracy. 🤯😂

The most heard sentence in our household is probably, “I’m hungry, what’s for lunch?” and yes, sometimes those words come from my mouth too, but the winner is definitely my husband. 😂 I mean, it’s not like he makes the whole lunch decision complicated, but somehow there is always a very long process before lunch actually appears on the table. First, we have to decide what we want to eat, and believe me, sometimes this decision can take hours. We discuss, we suggest something, then we change our minds, then we go back to the first idea, and after what feels like a full business meeting, we finally decide what we are going to eat.

And then, when I’m finally ready to start cooking, I check the fridge and, of course, the ingredients we need are not there. Because why would they be? 😂 So now we have another important decision to make...are we going to eat something completely different, or are we going to the shop to buy the missing ingredients? And obviously we are going to the shop, because by the time we finish deciding what to eat, it is already almost dinner time anyway. 😂

But today was different. The moment I opened my eyes, I turned to my husband and told him, “I want French salad.” No discussion, no voting, no two-hour family meeting. I knew what I wanted.

And my husband was like, “Okay… make it.”

But then, of course, he had to add: “If you are making French salad, I want Wiener schnitzel too.”

And I mean… fair enough. He has the right to have an opinion too, right? 😂

So I said, “Okay, baby, no problem. Let’s do it.” Or, better said, I’m going to do it, because guess what? I actually wanted to cook today. 😊

And I’ve been making this salad for so long that I don’t even need a recipe anymore.

Yes!! I have reached French salad expert level. 😂😂😂

So first things first… LET’S GO SHOPPING!

And that’s when the whole story became weird.

I went to look for the frozen vegetables I normally use for French salad, which are basically carrots, potatoes and peas, and I thought this was going to be the easiest part of the whole shopping trip. But then… I couldn’t find them. I looked again, checked another freezer, and then another one, but nothing. And I started thinking, wait… what?

In Slovenia, you can literally buy frozen vegetables made specifically for French salad. But here in Austria?

Nope. Gone. Disappeared.

Very suspicious. 🤨 Or let’s say...interesting. And you know what **“interesting”* means?

HISTORY TIME! 😉

But let’s leave that for the end. (HAHA, now you have to read the entire article if you want to solve the mystery)

Since I couldn’t find the normal frozen mix, I bought something similar...frozen summer vegetables. There was only one small problem… there was something white inside. I had no idea what it was, so I read the name and still had absolutely no idea. 😂 Then I translated it, thinking that would finally solve the mystery, but guess what? I STILL didn’t know what the hell it meant in my own language! 😂😂😂

Apparently, it was parsnip, which is a root vegetable related to carrots and parsley.

HAH...Every day we learn something new. How fun. 😂

But I didn’t want parsnip in my French salad because then it wouldn’t taste like the French salad I know, so I did what any professional chef would do...I simply picked out all the white pieces. And because I was already in the mood for quality control, I also picked out some of the bigger pieces of carrot.

Problem solved.

Okay… ## LET’S MAKE THE SALAD! 🥔🥕🥚

Ingredients:

500 g frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas and potatoes)

1 Granny Smith apple

5-6 pickles

4 hard-boiled eggs

6 heaping tablespoons of mayonnaise
2 tablespoons pickle juice
1 teaspoon mustard
Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

First, boil the vegetables in salted water and let them cool completely. While they are cooling, peel the apple and cut it into small cubes, then dice the pickles and the hard-boiled eggs. Once everything is ready, put the vegetables, apple, pickles and eggs into a big bowl. In a smaller bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, pickle juice, mustard, salt and pepper, then pour the dressing over everything and gently mix it all together.

But all the arguments around UN lost its value after the Trump’s speech at the first day of a General Debate of the 81st UNGA session, on September 23rd 2026. In that speech, he announced Urbi et Orbi – that UN ceased to exist.

Not only did he cast himself — in his specific autistic-narcissistic style — in the role of the world’s Divine Emperor and deliver a speech resembling the annual U.S. “State of the Union” address, but he also openly threatened an entire Iranian nation with annihilation from the podium — in direct violation of Article 1 of the United Nations Charter:

My Walk Through Santiago Mariño Square (Eng/Esp)

Today I took them on a new tour; we’ll explore Santiago Mariño Square in Cumana, which is located next to the headquarters of the Sucre State Legislative Council. The institution pays tribute to Mariño, a hero of our country’s independence who was known as the Liberator of the East, since he succeeded in emancipating the provinces of Cumana and Barcelona in 1813 through the signing of the Chacachacare Act.

The plaza named in his honor is spacious, and its grounds are immaculate; in fact, the day I passed by, a cleaning crew was hard at work. In the center stands a full-body statue of General-in-Chief Mariño, dressed in his military uniform and exuding an imposing presence.

The green spaces are very well laid out, providing a pleasant setting for recreation, conversation, and relaxation. The minimalist design highlights the contours of the pavement and other concrete areas.

There are lush trees here; perhaps the most popular are the mango trees and palm trees, which provide shade from the sun for visitors. This plaza is very busy because it’s close to the Cumana Barracks, Guaqueri Park, downtown, and the Historic District. Additionally, since it’s right on the corner of a traffic light, some vendors have set up shop there to sell various items, including auto parts.

It was interesting to visit this place; I had never paid it any attention before because I used to rush through that area, but in recent months I’ve learned from my wife to pay attention to the details, discovering new settings that allow me to walk, relax, and reflect a little.

Hoy los llevó por un nuevo recorrido, exploraremos la plaza Santiago Mariño de Cumaná, la cual se encuentra al lado de la sede del Consejo Legislativo del estado Sucre. La institución rinde tributo a Mariño, prócer de la Independencia de nuestro país que fue conocido como el Libertador de Oriente, puesto que logró emancipar en 1813 a las provincias de Cumaná y Barcelona a través de la firma del Acta de Chacachacare.

La plaza en su honor es amplia y sus áreas lucen pulcras, de hecho el día que pasé por allí estaba una cuadrilla de limpieza en plena jornada. En el centro se encuentra la estatua a cuerpo completo del General en Jefe Mariño, con su traje militar y mostrando un aire imponente.

Las zonas verdes están muy bien distribuidas, lo que permite el sano esparcimiento, conversar y descansar. Cuenta con un diseño minimalista que permite destacar las formas del piso y otras áreas de cemento.

National Manufacturing Day, celebrated on the first Friday of October, pays tribute to those who manufacture products in the United States. It is a day that demonstrates how competitiveness drives the U.S. manufacturing industry and how the sector forms a fundamental part of the country's economy. National Manufacturing Day was established through an official proclamation by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in 2012.

El Día Nacional de la Manufactura, se celebra el primer viernes de octubre, rinde homenaje a quienes fabrican productos en Estados Unidos. Two years later, in 2014, President Barack Obama declared it a national observance. Strolling Down Cedeño Street (Eng/Esp)

Although he was not born in Cumana, General Manuel Cedeño is honored in various ways; one of the streets adjacent to Humboldt Avenue bears his name, as does the Cazadores Battalion, which is part of the Sucre State military garrison. Cedeño was a national hero who fought in Venezuela’s War of Independence; he died on the front lines during the Battle of Carabobo and is recognized in the eastern region for accompanying Generals Santiago Mariño and Jose Francisco Bermudez in the campaign that liberated this area.

Today, Cedeño Street has been renovated; what was once a corner used as a garbage dump has been transformed into an artistic space featuring beautiful murals that are admired daily due to their location, as they are adjacent to the Ciudad Traki Shopping Center.

Among the works, a painting of San Antonio de la Eminencia Castle stands out, as it takes us back to the colonial era and helps us recall history through its walls. Next, we see a pair of hands symbolizing effort and productive labor; they also connect us to nature, which is so essential. The paintings are very eye-catching, as their colors are arranged to draw attention.

As for the gardens, the designers used simple yet purposeful designs; the main feature here is the leaf-shaped structures, which are divided into groups to form a flower. Similarly, the artists behind this work chose to playfully paint some stones, shaping them into animals and mushrooms—a detail sure to delight the little ones.

I’m glad they’re restoring these spaces and beautifying the city; after all, we need visual stimuli. When you go out for a walk, you take in a great deal of information through your senses, and it’s nice when that interaction with the outside world is enjoyable. I appreciate the effort of those who helped restore this place, especially since art was used to give new life to walls that were once doomed to oblivion.

The AN-24B aircraft. This is one of the attractions of our city. All visitors to the city are usually surprised by this strange decoration. I see that someone broke a banner indicating why this plane is parked in this place. Most likely, it was done by young hands or feet. I'm talking about the information banner now.
Every day, like many citizens, I drive past this monument of mismanagement. But over the past 2 weeks, I stopped my car 3 times and approached the plane.

I took this photo on September 19th, at about 6 a.m. All the photos I've taken in this place over the years of living in this city fall in the fall. I am attracted by the bright autumn colors of the trees. This time, the sky is also a bonus.

This time I was holding a Nikon D5300 with a Tokina AT-X 11-20mm F2.8 PRO DX wide-angle lens. I like this lens. But I haven't used it for almost 2 years. After his trip to Abu Dhabi, he stopped changing his diaphragm. In early September, I repaired it and used it 100% on my trip to Belarus.

I want to sleep. I really want to sleep. I spent September in the "sleep no more than 4 hours" mode. I want to switch to sleep mode for 6 hours.

Today is Friday, mushroom Friday. I want to show the mushrooms, but at the same time raise a serious topic.
I have repeatedly written that I traveled to Belarus. That was last week. On the last day of our adventures, we visited the village of Khatyn, or rather the place where this village once was.

What is Khatyn?
The Khatyn Memorial Complex in the Minsk region is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the war and the tragedy that occurred on March 22, 1943, when the village of Khatyn was burned down along with its inhabitants during a punitive operation. On that day, 149 people died at the hands of the punishers, 75 of them children under the age of 16.
This monument at the entrance to the memorial site symbolizes the only surviving villager, who is carrying his dead son in his arms.

But among the trees, you can see a "dead village," or rather, concrete structures resembling the remains of a destroyed village. But I want to tell you about this separately.

A concrete path to the house, the foundation of the house, and a chimney with a bell at the top. 26 such bells, 26 burned houses. My group went to the bus parking lot. I decided to walk among these houses and saw mushrooms next to a large tree stump, the heroes of today's report.

A very friendly mushroom family.
This is one of the types of autumn honey mushrooms: a characteristic feature is brown-ochre hats with a darker center; they grow in a dense group ("bouquet"). The color of autumn honey mushrooms can vary greatly and depends on the area and the type of tree.

In the distance, you can see the symbolic cemetery of burned and not rebuilt villages. And every 30 seconds, a bell is heard ringing.

entry reflections 291

there is something special about the reflections in the puddles that form on the street after a rain. the uneven heights that usually go totally unnoticed suddenly appear because the water collects in the dips. often the puddles form in groups interrupted by higher levels in the surface. the reflection of an object is therefore also interrupted or partial and broken up which often makes the whole more interesting than if the reflection had been complete. here is a simple example from Fredriksvern Verft, the park in town with typical old Stavern yellow wooden buildings reflecting in the puddles.

one of the reasons the reflection appears more interesting is that the parts of the object being reflected change as one moves. while this is true of any reflection, the fct that it is broken into separate parts makes the change more striking as one walks by. this particular building is one of the largest wooden buildings in Norway. it was built in the 1770s as quarters for the cadets as well as storage of the provisions for the naval base. while the puddles break up the reflections, the buildings themselves have withstood far worse forces of destruction.
