Durante mi caminata, me detuve a observar unas aves que jugaban tranquilamente en el mar, manteniendo una distancia respetuosa para poder fotografiarlas. Estos amigos emplumados ciertamente saben disfrutar de los encantos del océano; en todas mis visitas a este lugar, esta fue la primera vez que vi tantos pelícanos juntos: revoloteando y, tras realizar diversas acrobacias aéreas, nadando muy relajados en el agua.</p> <p>Después de observarlos durante unos minutos, tomé el sendero que marca la entrada a la playa; este presenta letras blancas sobre fondo azul y está decorado con imágenes de diversos animales marinos. Al igual que en otras playas, se han instalado refugios tradicionales con techo de paja a lo largo de la orilla, lo que permite a los visitantes disfrutar de la agradable brisa marina y del sonido de las olas mientras se protegen del sol. El camino también cuenta con bancos de piedra y hormigón donde los visitantes pueden reunirse y socializar. En ese preciso momento, una embarcación realizaba su recorrido y varias personas llegaban a la playa. During my walk, I paused to watch some birds playing peacefully in the sea, keeping a respectful distance so I could photograph them. These feathered friends certainly know how to enjoy the ocean's charms; in all my visits to this spot, this was the first time I had seen so many pelicans together—fluttering about and, after performing various aerial acrobatics, swimming quite relaxed in the water.</p> <p>After watching them for a few minutes, I took the path marking the entrance to the beach; it features white lettering on a blue background and is decorated with images of various marine animals. As with other beaches, traditional thatched-roof shelters have been set up along the shore, allowing visitors to enjoy the pleasant sea breeze and the sound of the waves while staying protected from the sun. The path also features stone and concrete benches where visitors can gather and socialize. Just then, a boat was making its rounds, and several people were arriving at the beach. It seemed to have chosen that spot to savor the quiet peace of this chilly morning. This tiny creature was a white rice leafhopper, an insect of minuscule size belonging to the Cicadellidae family. </div><p></p><p></p><div> It did not flee as I approached, yet capturing a photograph of it proved incredibly difficult. Its body was no larger than the tip of a thin stick, and the wind kept swaying the blade of grass where it perched. It was a challenge, but I refused to give up on photographing the little creature. I persisted until I finally managed to capture a few images worthy of sharing here. In truth, I took many photos, but a large number of them turned out blurry. </div><p></p><p></p><div> Its small body was clad in an ivory-white hue, accented by brownish streaks that seemed to blend with the sunlight. Its wings were neatly folded across its back, and its delicate antennae kept moving. Its eyes were a deep, solid black unmoving, as if unwilling to miss a single movement I made nearby. Meanwhile, its slender legs gripped the leaf's surface tightly, balancing its body against the wind. </div><p></p><p></p><div> Despite its tiny size, this insect is greatly feared by farmers, especially those who grow rice. It attacks rice plants by sucking the sap from their stems, thereby stunting their growth. During my visit to Cochaima Beach, I took the opportunity to watch the sunset; I must say the views were incredible, with the sky and the sea both bathed in a lovely golden hue. Seeking an angle that would capture the mountain, the sea, and the sand, I walked a fair distance along the beach and took several photographs—all of which I really liked.</p> <p>I couldn't choose a favorite, as each one captures a different moment of the sunset and the way the light played upon the water. The first shot shows part of the mountain surrounding the beach—which is also part of Mochima National Park—while another focuses on a beautiful boat near the mountain, with the sun's reflection creating a sort of golden path across the sea. This important thoroughfare provides access to the Antonio José de Sucre Barracks and also connects to the highway leading to Cumanacoa. When this bridge was built, the demolition work damaged the structure of the Convent of San Francisco; its interior wattle-and-daub walls collapsed, which is why only ruins remain today—the only part still standing is its façade.</p> <center>  </center><center>  </center><center>  </center><p>An interesting fact is that in 2012, a second, identical bridge was built very close to the original to help ease traffic congestion, as the strain on the system was evident with only one lane in each direction in a city entering the second millennium.</p> <center>  </center><center>  </center><center>  </center><p>This bridge spans the Manzanares River; from there, you can see the calm waters and the lush trees all around. There’s even a flowering tree on the corner that really catches the eye—I’ll show you some pictures of it. </p> <center>  </center><center>  </center><center>  </center><p>From here, I could also see that Plaza Vargas had been cleared and demolished; they cut down all the trees surrounding it and leveled the ground. The place looks very different; there’s no sign that anything new is going to be built here—at least that’s the conclusion I’ve reached, since there’s no activity or construction materials visible around this public space.</p> <center>  </center><center>  </center><p>It was a sunny day with a breeze, which allowed me to walk across the bridge without any trouble. It's ₱130 to ₱280 per kilogram.<br />‎<br />‎So having your own supply is such a big blessing and such a big help to the budget.<br />‎<br />‎It really proves that just by planting and caring for them, they’ll give back so much. 💚<br />‎<br />‎After harvesting it, I just removed the soil, trimmed away the roots and green stalks, and I got a fresh ginger ready to use. It is so wonderful because you can add it to salads, sauté it with garlic and onions, or simmer it in soups, just like what I did today. Join me on this scientific adventure!</p> <hr /> <center>🌿🔬🌿🔬🌿🔬🌿</center><hr /> <h3>[ESP] Un Sueño Hecho Realidad en el IVIC</h3> <p>Todo comenzó cuando vi que estaba abierto el concurso para un taller de herpetología en el <strong>IVIC (Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas)</strong>. Desde el primer momento me llamó muchísimo la atención y decidí postularme. Uno de los requisitos principales era redactar una carta explicativa. En ella, expresé mi profundo deseo de aprender sobre esta rama de la zoología y lo mucho que significaba para mí recibir capacitación en una institución tan prestigiosa. El IVIC es un lugar fascinante, un espacio inmenso dedicado por entero a la ciencia, donde hacen vida los mejores especialistas e investigadores de Venezuela. ¡A los pocos días recibí el correo de aceptación y la emoción fue indescriptible!</p> <p>El taller estaba estructurado en siete días intensos: cinco días de teoría y un fin de semana de práctica en campo. Al llegar el primer día a las instalaciones, quedé completamente encantada. Me encontré rodeada de personas sumamente inteligentes, intelectuales, científicos y apasionados de la investigación. Durante los días teóricos, nos sumergimos en el origen y la práctica de la herpetología, comprendiendo a fondo la biología de los anfibios y reptiles, y conociendo la asombrosa diversidad de especies que posee nuestro país.</p> <center><p><img src="https://i.ecency.com/DQmNgokL77y8iZUScffhav21CX5boXT9M2z7tLEzvbSjTHj/1790993251656.jpg" /><br /><em>El grupo de apasionados por la ciencia frente al Centro de Ecología del IVIC.</em></p> </center><hr /> <h3>[ENG] A Dream Come True at IVIC</h3> <p>It all started when I saw an open call for a herpetology workshop at <strong>IVIC (Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research)</strong>. It caught my attention immediately, and I decided to apply. One of the main requirements was to write a motivation letter. In it, I expressed my deep desire to learn about this branch of zoology and how much it meant to me to receive training at such a prestigious institution. IVIC is a fascinating place, a massive space entirely dedicated to science, home to Venezuela's top specialists and researchers. A few days later, I received the acceptance email, and my excitement was beyond words!</p> <p>The workshop was structured into seven intense days: five days of theory and a weekend of field practice. When I arrived on the first day, I was completely enchanted by the facilities. I found myself surrounded by highly intelligent people, intellectuals, scientists, and researchers. And just an hour after the last drop fell, when the sun was beginning to peek timidly through the clouds, I went out to the patio. I am not a biologist, but I believe it belongs to the genus Caracolus, and its shell was a work of art, very striped, with dark lines that intertwined over a light background, and on top, a kind of perfect spiral that seemed drawn by a geometric artist. It was not just any snail, it was a small monument to Cuban wildlife.</p> <hr /> <p><img src="https://i.ecency.com/DQmZs7zzWhiCDcC4WWSRanZ1kyvt4e9LM2cp4hvT8xaiLD2/1790983121466.jpg" /></p> <hr /> <p>I stood still, not daring to breathe hard so as not to scare it away. I adore it because it is very Cuban, but not only because of its origin, but because it represents that silent resistance that characterizes us. There it was, after an hour of deluge, clinging to an old tile, as if nothing had happened and as if the rain had not been a torrent, but a simple refreshing bath. The spiral at the top, that perfect turn, made me think of time and how everything in Cuba turns, sometimes slowly, sometimes vertiginously, but always in a spiral.
