[Movie] Review of This Is How You'll Learn

The series titled "This Is How You'll Learn" is a North Korean series that has broken away from the mold of other shows and managed to capture the attention of many at least I love it. It’s a bit different from the typical Korean K-drama; I usually watch those K-dramas set in the Joseon era, but this one is different—it’s exciting, funny, and educational.

The series focuses on school settings and the irregularities that arise within educational institutions, affecting both students and teachers. Everything unfolds in everyday situations something that may seem harmless can have far reaching consequences. The series addresses various issues, including drug use, addiction, mental health disorders, ethical lapses, adolescence, and bullying, among many other things that are common occurrences in some schools.

The series’ title fits it very well, since it’s based on discipline that isn’t enforced by parents, nor on the teaching of values; instead, these are taught by applying almost their own way of life to instill principles, and this can apply to both young people and adults.

In the series, a special agency was created to help correct all the mistakes that have been occurring well, to the best of their ability and they go from school to school trying to help resolve all the problems in the various institutions in some way. Of course, they focus on the most problematic ones and those that have received the most complaints.

I like the series because, in addition to the humor, it has a lot of action and takes justice into its own hands since the justice system seems to do nothing despite all the complaints that may be filed. I really like the actors who starred in it, such as Inspector Na Hwa jin, played by Kim Mu-yeol, an actor who gave a phenomenal performance, just like the other lead actors; they all truly stood out in their roles. but another role I really liked was that of Bong Geun-dae, played by Pyo Ji-hoon—he provided the comic relief in the series. I definitely recommend watching every episode of the series—it’s well worth it.

[Movie] The Hangover: A Comedy Masterpiece You Can't Miss 🎬🍻

Today I want to talk about a movie that never fails to make me laugh: The Hangover (2009). If you haven't seen it, you're missing out on one of the best comedies of the 21st century. And yes, the sequels are worth watching too!

What It's About

The plot is simple but brilliant: three friends—Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis)—wake up in a trashed Las Vegas hotel suite after a wild bachelor party. The groom, Doug (Justin Bartha), is missing. They have no memory of the night before. And there's a baby in the closet, a tiger in the bathroom, and a mattress on the roof.

What follows is a hilarious, chaotic journey to retrace their steps, find Doug, and get him back to Los Angeles in time for his wedding. Along the way, they encounter Mike Tyson, a Chinese gangster, a strip club, and a police car they stole. Every scene is packed with absurd humor and unforgettable one-liners.

Why It Works

The chemistry between the three leads is perfect. Bradley Cooper is the smooth leader, Ed Helms is the terrified dentist, and Zach Galifianakis steals every scene as the bizarre, socially awkward Alan. The script is tight, the jokes land, and the mystery keeps you hooked.

The Sequels

· The Hangover Part II (2011): The gang goes to Bangkok for Stu's wedding. It's darker and more outrageous, with another missing person and even wilder situations. Not as fresh as the first, but still very funny.
· The Hangover Part III (2013): The trilogy wraps up with a return to Las Vegas. It's more of a heist comedy, but it gives closure to the characters and has some great moments.

My Personal Take

I absolutely loved this movie. It's one of those comedies I can rewatch and still laugh out loud. The sequels might not reach the same heights, but they're entertaining and complete the story. If you're looking for a fun, raunchy, and unforgettable comedy night, The Hangover trilogy is a safe bet.

The problem with clichés.

Speak badly of me, but speak of me. For years, the clichés used in movies have already become part of cinematic history because they carry fundamental weight in certain types of narrative structures, which certainly help not only to create a solid foundation for developing a story, but also help to create a visual and stylized identity (depending on what the essence of each project is). The fact is that, whether loved or not, they can bring "systemic" problems.

Perhaps, the most popular (and most recognizable, because it is more commonly used) is the repetition of standardized ideas that they carry. However, the blame falls much more on those who use them (and how these people use them) than on the clichés themselves. It is quite true that some clichés are so silly or even bad. On the other hand, depending on how they are used in movies, they can be important tools for constructing elements within the plot.

The dilemma here is how to balance this applicability of a narrative device (which may or may not be verbal or visual), because it is according to the quantity, intensity, and execution of the choices that they may - or may not - become a major headache for some screenwriters and directors. Every cinematic genre, over the years, has built its own clichés, and the way they have “evolved” through time is the merit of a small group.

Although it is almost impossible to attribute the merit of this matter to specific names, it is impossible to deny that the history of cinema was (in part) built by what clichés represent. Like any other device, clichés just need to be better chosen (and used) to work according to the atmosphere of the projects in which they are inserted. The problem isn't exactly them... Because they are just an accessory that is part of the whole.

Their essence is so strong that, with just a few seconds of a scene after its projection begins, a particular movie can easily be categorized by a large number of people. Therefore, if they are used the right way, a movie can easily become good in the eyes of the general public because this creates a kind of “bridge” between the fantastic side that is created by the combination of image and sound, and the realistic side that needs to buy into that whole idea.

**El problema con los clichés.**

Hablen mal, pero hablen de mí. Desde hace años, los clichés utilizados en las películas ya forman parte de la historia cinematográfica porque tienen un peso fundamental en determinados tipos de estructuras narrativas, que ciertamente ayudan no solo a crear una base sólida para desarrollar una historia, sino que también ayudan a crear una identidad visual y estilizada (dependiendo de cuál sea la esencia de cada proyecto). El hecho es que, sean amados o no, pueden traer problemas "sistémicos".

Quizás, el más popular (y más reconocible, por ser utilizado con mayor frecuencia) sea la repetición de ideas estandarizadas que llevan consigo. Sin embargo, la culpa recae mucho más sobre quienes los usan (y cómo esas personas los usan) que sobre los propios clichés. Es muy cierto que algunos clichés son tan tontos o incluso malos. Por otro lado, dependiendo de la manera en que sean utilizados en las películas, pueden ser herramientas importantes de construcción dentro de la trama.

El dilema aquí es cómo dosificar esta aplicabilidad del recurso narrativo (que puede o no ser verbal o visual), porque es de acuerdo con la cantidad, la intensidad y la ejecución de las elecciones que pueden - o no - convertirse en un gran dolor de cabeza para algunos guionistas y directores. Todo género cinematográfico, a lo largo de los años, ha construido sus propios clichés, y la manera en que fueron “evolucionando” a través del tiempo es mérito de un pequeño grupo.

Aunque es casi imposible atribuir el mérito de esta cuestión a través de nombres específicos, es imposible negar que la historia del cine fue (en parte) construida por lo que los clichés representan. They Live Is One Of The Most Entertaining And Thought Provoking Sci Fi Movies Of The 1980s. John Carpenter’s 1988 Classic Mixes Action, Horror, Science Fiction And Social Commentary Into A Movie That Has Become Even More Relevant And Memorable Over Time.

They Live is one of those movies that sounds completely ridiculous when you explain the basic premise, but somehow works incredibly well once you actually watch it. John Carpenter takes a science fiction story about aliens controlling society and turns it into an entertaining movie with a surprisingly sharp message underneath all the action.

Roddy Piper stars as John Nada, a drifter who arrives in Los Angeles looking for work. Nada eventually finds a construction job and becomes friends with Frank Armitage, played by Keith David. The two men are simply trying to get by, but Nada soon discovers that something very strange is happening around them.

The turning point comes when Nada finds a mysterious pair of sunglasses. When he puts them on, the world looks completely different. Advertisements reveal hidden messages telling people to obey, consume and conform, while seemingly ordinary people are revealed to be something much more sinister.

That discovery completely changes the movie. Nada realizes that the wealthy and powerful figures controlling society are actually aliens who have secretly taken control of humanity. Even worse, many people appear to be cooperating with them because the system provides comfort and material rewards.

Roddy Piper is surprisingly good in the lead role. Best known at the time as a professional wrestler, Piper brings a physical presence and a straightforward attitude to Nada. He is not a complicated character, but that actually works because he feels like an ordinary guy who suddenly discovers that everything he thought was normal is a lie.

Keith David is also excellent as Frank. His character is much more reluctant to believe what Nada is telling him, which creates some great tension between the two friends. Their relationship eventually leads to one of the most famous scenes in the entire movie, an absurdly long fight that has become legendary among fans.

John Carpenter directed and wrote the screenplay, and They Live has many of the trademarks that made his movies so recognizable. There is a mixture of science fiction, horror, dark humor and action, but Carpenter also gives the movie a gritty atmosphere that makes Los Angeles feel like a place where something genuinely strange could be hiding underneath the surface.

The sunglasses are obviously the most important idea in the movie. They allow Nada to see what is really happening, but there is a downside to discovering the truth. Once you can see the hidden messages and the aliens around you, you cannot simply go back to pretending everything is normal.

That is where the movie becomes more than just a science fiction action movie. Carpenter was making a commentary on consumerism, advertising, wealth and the culture of the 1980s. The aliens are fictional, but the ideas behind them are very real. The movie asks what happens when people become so comfortable with the system around them that they stop questioning it.

The famous “OBEY” message is probably the image most people associate with They Live. It has become part of popular culture far beyond the movie itself. The same goes for the sunglasses, which have become an instantly recognizable symbol of discovering something hidden beneath the surface.

The movie also has plenty of dark humor. Some of the dialogue and situations are deliberately over the top, and Carpenter clearly understands that the concept is strange. Instead of trying to make everything completely serious, he embraces the ridiculous parts and turns them into some of the film’s most entertaining moments.

The action is another reason They Live remains so much fun to watch. Roddy Piper gives Nada plenty of physicality, and the movie never forgets that it is supposed to entertain the audience. There are shootouts, chases, fights and explosions, but the action always supports the larger story.

What makes They Live a true classic is the combination of all those elements. It works as an action movie, a science fiction movie, a horror movie and a piece of social commentary. You can simply enjoy it for the entertainment, or you can spend more time thinking about what Carpenter was trying to say.

For me, that is why They Live has lasted so well. It is unmistakably a product of 1988, but its central idea does not depend on that particular decade. The movie is about questioning what you are being told, looking beyond appearances and wondering who benefits from the world being presented to you.

[Movie] Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)

Have you ever watched a movie and realised you were just having a good time while watching, without even trying too hard to understand everything in the movie? Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is one of those movies. The movie was packed with fantasy adventure, magic, and a little bit of chaos. Honestly, I really enjoyed watching it. So, for the review, I’m going to make it spoiler-free as usual.

Before I watch the movie, I was doubting if I’m going to love it. Have heard people talked about the game, but I’m not really a game person, so I’m not familiar with the way Dungeons and Dragons game looks like. Honestly, I was thinking I’ll not understand the movie since I did not have knowledge about the game, but Nah! I understood everything that happened. So, you don’t need to be a D&D player before you’ll understand the movie.

The adventure begins when Edgin, a former Harper and a thief. He teams up with with a group of adventurers to retrieve a powerful relic. However, things did not go they planned, the adventure became complicated than they expected. In the Process of the adventure, they faced one problems after another. They deal with dangerous enemies, Magic, and even encountered mythical creatures.

Personally, one of the things I love about the movie was how they manage to balance between comedy and the actual story. The movie reminded me about Thor: Ragnarok because of the way it mixes fantasy, action, and humour, without destroying the storyline. You know a movie can become so focused on making jokes that you stop caring about what’s happening in the movie, but D&D was not not like that. The story kept moving, even though the story movie is over 2 hours long, I never got tired while watching it.

The characters were all amazing, because everyone of them always bring something different to the group. We have Edgin who is charismatic, he relies more on his intelligence and ability to come up with plans to help the group, rather than fighting ability. Then Holga is a fiercely loyal barbarian companion, she’s ready to fight anyone standing on her way, she doesn’t waste time when it comes to fighting 😀. Watching her fight some of the enemies with her axe was so satisfying. Honestly, Holga was probably one of my favourites.

Simon was a young sorcerer in the group, although he still trying to figure out his abilities. Then we have Doric who have the ability to transform into different animals, her ability comes in handy and I think I love that too. Then finally we have Xenk who is ridiculously noble and serious, all this makes interactions in the group more entertaining.

Then the magic aspect. D&D really gives me a full fantasy experience in terms of the Dragons, encounter of different mythical creatures and magical objects, the spells and finding themselves in strange places. The characters were moving from one location to another, so you’ll never feel like you’re stuck in the same environment while watching. One moment you’ll see them dealing with something in a graveyard, and fighting their way to escape, then another moment, they are trying to survive another dangerous situation.

When it comes to the creatures, I love the effect they used, it was a mixture of modern visual effects and that of old-school fantasy feeling. It made the environment feel imaginative without making it look CD complicated. So I love the way they did not rely only on computer-generated effects, it was really good. And another thing about the characters is that, as they are trying to solve one problem, somehow, their plan will land them into another bigger problem 😂. I feel their experience gave the Adventures a good flow, because I was always curious “How are they going to get out of this one?”

Beyond all the comedy and action in the movie, the characters actually have some kind of personal reasons for what they’re doing. Edgin was not just looking for a relic, there were relationships, sacrifices, mistakes and things he desperately wants to make right. This makes you care about them and keeps you wondering if they’ll succeed in their mission.

So, if you love magic, adventure, mythical creatures, comedy, and action, I’ll recommend Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023).

[Movie] JagunJagun

Power can build a kingdom, but the fear of losing it can turn a powerful man into his own worst enemy.

That is the heart of Jagun Jagun, the 2023 Yoruba epic that combines war, ambition, love, betrayal, superstition and the dangerous hunger for power.
Set in an ancient Yoruba world, the story follows Gbotija played by Lateef Adedimeji, a young man who is determined to become a great warrior. His journey took him into the army of Ogundiji played by Femi Adebayo, a powerful warlord whose reputation is built on victories, fear and control but Gbotija's ambition is complicated by his desire to avenge his father's death.

This is where the movie becomes more than another warrior story. Ogundiji isn't simply a military leader. He is a man obsessed with power, and the arrival of a young warrior with enormous potential begins to threaten the position he has spent years protecting.

Gbotija's journey through the military camp introduces us to the harsh realities of becoming a warrior. Training, loyalty, rivalry and the politics within the army gradually shape him. But while he is learning how to fight, he is also discovering that strength and wisdom are not necessarily the same thing.

There is also a strong romantic thread involving Morohunmbo (Bimbo Ademoye), while Kitan/Agemo (Bukunmi Oluwashina) adds another important dimension to the story. The movie doesn't rely solely on battles but relationships, spiritual beliefs, family connections and hidden motives constantly influence what happens.

The supporting cast is one of the film's biggest attractions. Odunlade Adekola plays Jigan, Ibrahim Yekini plays Gbogunmi, Adebayo Salami plays Oba Alayaki, Faithia Balogun plays Erinfunto, while Muyiwa Ademola, Yinka Quadri, Dayo Amusa and Mr Macaroni are also part of the ensemble.

Jagun Jagun was directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo, with Femi Adebayo as producer and Tolu Obanro handled the music. The cinematography, costumes, makeup, locations and visual effects are particularly amazing because they made the fictional historical world feel much bigger than the usual Nollywood setting.

What I enjoyed most is how the movie explores the cost of power. Ogundiji's fear of losing control affects how he sees people around him, while Gbotija's determination to become a warrior gradually forces him to confront the difference between revenge, loyalty and purpose.

The movie isn't perfect as always because some parts of the storyline feel predictable, and the film's long runtime means certain sections could have been tighter. Critics have also pointed out that the visual achievement sometimes outshines the predictability of the plot but visually and culturally, Jagun Jagun is a film worth experiencing.

It gives the original Yoruba language, costumes, warfare and storytelling a massive cinematic stage, and the performances, particularly from Femi Adebayo and Lateef Adedimeji, kept the conflict alive.

Sometimes, the person fighting hardest to become powerful is still the same person who is most afraid of losing power and that fear can destroy everything around them.

[Movie] The Mummy 1999 Review.

Normally, I almost never watch movies on TV, just on my phone.. but today I decided to watch on the decoder and I happened to sit with a horror movie, this one I was able to watch because we were plenty watching it, but i would not have been able to watch alone on my own, so this is a horror movie like I said, The Mummy from 1999 and let me just tell you how this whole story goes.

So this movie opens way back in ancient Egypt, there we meet Imhotep , he is this high priest serving the Pharaoh, a man with serious access and serious secrets, then turns out he is been having an affair with Anck su namun , who happens to be the Pharaohs own mistress, which already tells you that this story was never going to end well for anybody involved, when Pharaoh finds out about their affair, chaos automatically breaks loose and instead of facing execution for what she has done, Anck su namun takes her own life just right there.... You see now a normal person would like just mourn and then move on but Imhotep decides to attempt something thats forbidden, it is a dangerous ritual to bring her back from the dead and because ancient Egyptian priests apparently did not play when it came to punishment, Imhotep gets caught and sentenced to a fate worse than death itself.... he was mummified alive, cursed to never be reborn, sealed away in this place called Hamunaptra, known as the City of the Dead.

Now fast forward to several centuries later, to 1926, and that is where our actual main characters come in, Rick O'Connell, an adventurer with a knack for finding trouble, stumbles across the exact location of Hamunaptra

Meanwhile, Evelyn Carnahan who is a librarian and Egyptologist who is clearly more book smart than field smart at this point now convinces Rick to take her back there, she is hoping that this discovery could be the thing that finally makes her career go to the next level, but of course, because this is that kind of adventure movie, they are not the only ones after this treasure, a rival group of treasure hunters racing them to the exact same site, and there everybody wants to be the one who will gets there first.

Now here comes the mistake that sets off the entire horror side of this movie, Evelyn, in her excitement over this ancient find, ends up reading aloud from the "Book of the dea" and truthfully , if i had a naira for every time a character in a horror movie reads something they clearly should not be reading, i would be rich by now somehow, that one careless decision accidentally resurrects Imhotep, and from that moment, everything spirals into full chaos.

Imhotep wakes up in a very terrible state, he is decayed and weak, basically falling apart but see that does not stop him from doing what he needs to do to get his strength back, he starts by hunting down and draining the life force of the men who disturbed his resting place, slowly regenerating his body piece by piece with every victim and he is not doing all this just for revenge either, he is also searching for the reincarnation of his lost love, Anck su namun, while plotting something way bigger, unleashing the ten biblical plagues to gain power nobody could possibly stop...

Watching this unfold with a group of people honestly made the whole experience so much easier, because I will be the first to admit, this is not a movie i would have survived watching alone, every time Imhotep's face started decaying and reforming on screen, somebody in the room was screaming, and that collective fear somehow made it fun instead of terrifying... the chaos just kept escalating, the sandstorms, scarab beetles doing the absolute most, random mummified soldiers rising up... it was a whole lot happening at once, but in that classic adventure horror combo kind of way that somehow works...

When it gets to the climax now, you are just watching this full fledged battle between these ancient curses and modern day adventurers who are trying to thwart an unstoppable force from destroying everything and see ehn.... horror movie or not, but watching it in a full room rather than by myself, definitely made this one of the more entertaining evenings I've had in a long time.

From Grief to Light "Saved By Grace" Review

I saw this short movie yesterday, it's the shortest in my list to see but it's a bit over an hour long. I'm being specific about that detail to show that I literally chose to see this movie from my long list yesterday because of the time it will run for. I needed something to take my mind off things after work but I needed to get things done after.

What I didn't expect from a movie this short was the lessons I'll learn from it, especially in the way the story is told. I'm pretty sure anyone who sees the title would first think the "Grace" that saved someone in the story, is maybe a pardon or another chance. It is but this time, the second chance or pardon came from a lady called Grace.

Since the movie is a bit old, I didn't expect much when I started to see it but I was totally into the story immediately after the first scene where a gun fight happened and shot the three persons in the space. Even though the story started to send me back and forth in the story to show what had happened after the shot, it got interesting slowly.

"Saved By Grace" is a Christian based story released in 2016 that aired for less than 1 hour 25 mins starring Joey Lawrence as Rick, Catalina Rodriguez as Grace, Muse Watson as Jeremiah and Robin Riker as Anne. The story revolves around the life of an officer who lost his wife to a gunshot and becomes so devastated that even years later, he considered commiting suicide but God had a plan for him through Grace and faith.

My favourite character could have easily been the guy who went through the transformation in the story but I totally love and could not stop being awed by the role and character played by Grace. She is a happy soul, so full of life and a lot of talks that it got a suicide thinker start to see life in a better life again. Her energy was so beautiful.

The end of the story gave me a shock I wasn't expecting at all, the complete side of Grace's story that she had told with smiles on her face until we heard she had lost her child. We didn't see another even bigger bad news coming but the fact that she could talk about it from a place of light, that she has accepted what happened to her as fate, it made me love her character more.

The movie is a good one, there are also two other character which I noticed their roles and appreciated how they aid words that taught lessons in the story. That is someone in Rick's neighbourhood and Rick's mum, their role was very much needed to help Rick come out of his dark. You should check the movie out, it's good.

When Deep Space Nine inherited the mantle of Star Trek's flagship series from The Next Generation, the differences between the two shows were immediately apparent—where Picard's Enterprise glided through space on episodic adventures, Sisko's station remained stubbornly fixed, dealing with politics, religion, and the messy aftermath of occupation. Yet for all their tonal divergences, both series shared certain structural DNA, particularly when it came to introducing the Big Bad. The Next Generation had fumbled its first attempt with the Ferengi, then struck gold with the Borg—those cybernetic nightmares that became the franchise's most chilling adversaries. DS9 clearly hoped to replicate that slow-burn success, gradually hinting at something vast and terrifying lurking beyond the wormhole in the Gamma Quadrant. That something finally took physical form in The Jem'Hadar, the second season finale that would fundamentally alter the series' trajectory and announce that the Dominion had arrived.

The episode opens with deceptive simplicity. Commander Sisko plans a father-son camping trip to an uninhabited M-class planet in the Gamma Quadrant, a chance to bond with Jake away from the station's demands. But Jake, ever the teenager, sees opportunity in adventure—he's partnered with Nog for a school project and persuades his father to let the Ferengi boy tag along. Sisko reluctantly agrees, his disappointment deepening considerably when Quark invites himself along under the flimsy pretence of chaperoning his nephew. The four of them materialise on a world that looks positively idyllic, all rolling hills and golden sunlight. Yet the atmosphere curdles quickly. Sisko and Quark trade barbs, their mutual antagonism bubbling to the surface until Nog, humiliated by the exchange, storms off into the woods. Jake gives chase, leaving the two adults alone in camp.

That's when everything changes. A humanoid woman (Molly Hagan) comes sprinting toward their position, terror etched across her face, only to be surrounded by three soldiers who materialise from nowhere. They move with chilling efficiency, capturing Sisko, Quark, and the woman without ceremony. The trio find themselves imprisoned in a cave surrounded by an energy field, where their fellow captive introduces herself as Eris, a member of the Vorta race. She explains that their captors are the Jem'Hadar—genetically engineered warriors bred for violence and bound in service to the Dominion, that mysterious power whispered about since the wormhole's discovery. The Dominion has been expanding throughout the Gamma Quadrant, Eris claims, enslaving worlds and crushing resistance. Her people possess telekinetic abilities, so the Jem'Hadar have fitted her with a suppression collar. While Quark grumbles and Eris frets, Sisko begins quietly working on disabling the device—because if they stand any chance of escape, they'll need every advantage they can muster.

Their captivity grows more ominous with the arrival of Talak'talan (Cress Williams), the Jem'Hadar group leader. He delivers a message that freezes the blood: the Dominion will no longer tolerate ships from the Alpha Quadrant violating their territory. The warning is absolute, delivered without bluster or threat—merely statement of fact from a power that doesn't recognise the Federation's moral authority. Back in the cave, Sisko continues his work on Eris's collar, though he requires Quark's assistance and the bartender's lockpicking skills prove surprisingly useful.

Meanwhile, Jake and Nog return to an empty camp. Realising something has gone terribly wrong, they beam up to their runabout only to discover their technology has been compromised. They cannot locate their missing crewmates, cannot beam them up, and cannot even set the autopilot to carry them back through the wormhole. They're stranded, helpless, and increasingly terrified—a pair of teenagers suddenly facing the vast indifference of space without adult protection.

The situation escalates dramatically when a Dominion ship punches through the wormhole and Talak'talan materialises in Ops aboard Deep Space Nine. He repeats his warning to Major Kira and the stunned station crew, casually mentioning that Commander Sisko is now a prisoner. The Federation responds with force—a Galaxy-class starship, the USS Odyssey, drops out of warp commanded by Captain Keogh (Alan Oppenheimmer). It's a visual cue that carries weight; this vessel looks identical to Picard's Enterprise, and that familiarity is precisely the point. Keogh launches a rescue mission, accompanied by runabouts crewed by Kira, O'Brien, Dax, Odo, and Dr. Bashir. The cavalry has arrived.

Con la llegada del mes de octubre, oficialmente en mi blog se da comienzo al Hivelloween, una temática que he tomado para hacer reseñas de películas, miniseries y series que son parte de géneros como el terror, suspenso y thrillers que fueron estrenadas tanto en este como en otros años y, para dar comienzo al "Hivelloween 2026", decidí hacer reseña del film estrenado a comienzo de este año; me refiero a 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, secuela de "28 Years Later", lo cual la convierte en el cuarto film de la franquicia que se originó hace 23 años con el estreno de "28 Days Later". Esta es la segunda película en la franquicia que no cuenta con la dirección de Danny Boyle, quien da paso a Nia DaCosta para tomar ese rol en dar movimiento, sonido e imagen al guion escrito por Alex Garland.

With the arrival of October, my blog officially kicks off Hivelloween on my blog—a theme I’ve adopted to review movies, miniseries, and TV series in genres like horror, suspense, and thrillers that were released both this year and in previous years. To kick off “Hivelloween 2026,” I decided to review the film that came out earlier this year: 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the sequel to “28 Years Later,” making it the fourth film in the franchise that began 23 years ago with the release of “28 Days Later.” This is the second film in the franchise not directed by Danny Boyle, who has handed the reins to Nia DaCosta to bring the screenplay written by Alex Garland to life through movement, sound, and visuals.

En esta secuela seguimos la historia de cuatro de los personajes que hicieron aparición por primera vez en esta franquicia en el anterior film, aunque en esta oportunidad, el protagonismo recae en "Dr Ian Kelson", ya que la historia es relatada desde su punto de vista. Es por eso que se deja atrás el relato del coming of age que vimos con la historia de "Spike" y nos encontramos en esta oportunidad con lo que considero que puede ser un homenaje o una demostración de la influencia de "Frankenstein" para generar en esta ocasión ese relato de un doctor al querer traer de vuelta vida a un monstruo. Esa manera de usar un Reino Unido distópico, con el remanente de los estragos causados por la epidemia y la eterna cuarentena de la cual fueron sometidos para indagar en la curiosidad de ciertos personajes y a su vez en la locura para encontrar cierta normalidad y hasta poder, es lo mejor de este film y en eso me gustó mucho el relato de Garland, en donde el terror es más causado por humanos "sanos" en vez de los infectados.

In this sequel, we follow the story of four of the characters who first appeared in this franchise in the previous film, although this time the spotlight falls on “Dr. Ian Kelson,” as the story is told from his point of view. That’s why the coming-of-age narrative we saw in “Spike’s” story is left behind, and this time we encounter what I consider to be either a tribute to or a demonstration of the influence of “Frankenstein”—specifically, the story of a doctor attempting to bring a monster back to life. This approach—using a dystopian United Kingdom, with the lingering aftermath of the epidemic’s devastation and the endless quarantine to which people were subjected—to explore the curiosity of certain characters and, in turn, their descent into madness in search of a semblance of normalcy and even power, is the best part of this film. And that’s why I really liked the story by ** Garland**’s story, where the horror stems more from “healthy” humans than from the infected.
