Hello, dear friends and Hive followers! Today I want to share with you one of the little glimpses of beauty I can find in my garden.

This time, the star of the show is the beautiful double hibiscus flower (Cayena), with a peach hue and very distinctive double petals, featuring a detailed center that looks like a work of art. The contrast with its vibrant green leaves really brings out its natural elegance.

The rain is upon us.

Finally! 3 days in a row! Not hardcore rain, but light sprinkling in the afternoon and a little bit at night. Considering that the páramo of Mamá Cotacachi, where most of our drinking water is filtered through vegetation, was burned during the hardcore fire season, that kind of rain is just what we need. Doesn't cause erosion, but revives the grass roots up on the mountain again, which then retain the earth and make the feared erosion a little less likely. Hope.

For months, the garden was nothing. Just nothing growing. A few weeds here and there, but not enough to have Jesús, my gardener, come more than once a month. And that basically just to keep him in the loop.

Plagues spread, but I was able to get rid of them by cleaning up the onions regularly. Those are funny bugs - they pain your hand purple when you squeeze them. The pea pods dried up in the end, giving seeds for the next generation that I'm about to set into the earth these days.

Good thing about the drought was that all the weeds dried up quickly, without shooting more roots. I can throw those on the compost now, and hopefully they won't just re-hydrate and grow again. Which is usually the case in Ecuador, every plant has the ability of spontaneous self-reviving. Both good and bad.

Trying to not waste water, I only watered the garden once a week. Even though the soil is still bad. But the plants that I care about have already good, deep roots, so they're fine. And the rest I can quickly re-grow. If they don't do it spontaneously. The birds certainly loved the sprinklers. Every time I put them on, they came to take baths and play and have fun.

The purple basil had a blast, too. I wonder if it will ever grow seeds. We have another purple basil around, which I haven't taken out of the pot yet, because I wanted to wait for the raining season. So maybe we'll have purple basil all over the place, soon?

I had planted 5 Rocoto-Chili plants a month before the rains stopped, and they all made it through, already bringing some fruits. But it's noticeable that they don't appreciate the soil too much. Usually, they have a lot of fruits. These have one here, another there. Enough to dry up and make into powder. Really, really hot powder. Rocoto is among the hottest I've eaten. But hey, I've never been to Asia, so... Once I had Carolina Reaper. That was an experience...

As it starts, so it ends. I hope these will produce a lot of seeds and auto-propagate. They're among my favorites, edible, too, if I'm not mistaken, so Danny will love them for his dishes. And they make pretty in vases upon the tables, too. I will have to work on the soil now that the rains have started. The compost didn't do much during dry season, but now, it should turn into dirt within 2-3 months. And the grass will grow to keep providing. And Geovanny will bring me organic waste from other gardens to feed the compost. And I have so many seedlings to plant! And seeds! Finally...

I like raining season. A new start.

I seriously can't believe that it's already October, and that we only have just under three months until we usher in 2027. A whole lot of interesting things have happened within the past 3/4 of 2026, and even with the notable challenges that Hive has been facing, I remained determined and focused in my building and growing, and in assisting and supporting the We Are Alive Tribe, and the greater Hive community, and I was thankfully able to make some huge strides in asset growth, especially in terms of my Hive Power, which will reach 37,000 before the end of this month. I'm sad that I had to sacrifice my nice chunk of HBD that was growing in savings to boost my HP so substantially, but it was worth it I think, and the extra HP has definitely come in handy.

The two most notable new and amazing things that came into my awareness in 2026, and that became primary components of my daily flow, are without a doubt Hermes Agent and Satsman. Both of them have been absolute game changers for me in their respective domains, which is exactly why I've been talking about them both so much in my posts over the past few weeks and months.

¡Hola, amigos amantes de las plantas!
Hoy quiero mostrarles el avance de una de las consentidas de mi jardín: mi Rosa del Desierto (Adenium obesum). Llevo un tiempo cuidándola y este ciclo de floración me ha tomado por sorpresa con detalles muy especiales.

Como pueden observar en la imagen anterior, el cáudice (el tronco grueso de la base) ha tomado una forma abultada y con mucha personalidad. Esa es una de las cosas que más me apasionan de los Adenium: no hay dos iguales, cada planta esculpe su propia figura a medida que crece.
Además, contrasta de forma hermosa con sus flores blancas de centro amarillo suave y sus hojas verdes llenas de vida.

Pero la verdadera sorpresa de esta temporada no fueron solo las flores... ¡miren lo que descubrí entre sus ramas!

¡Una enorme vaina de semillas! En la foto pongo mi mano al lado para que puedan apreciar el tamaño real que tiene. Es la primera vez que me da una vaina tan larga y gruesa, por lo que estoy ansioso/a por ver cómo madura.

Hello, plant-loving friends!
Today I want to show you the progress of one of my garden's favorites: my Desert Rose (Adenium obesum). I've been taking care of it for a while now, and this blooming cycle caught me by surprise with some very special details.

As you can see in the image above, the caudex (the thick trunk at the base) has taken on a swollen shape with a lot of personality. That's one of the things I love most about Adeniums: no two are alike, each plant sculpts its own unique shape as it grows.
Plus, it contrasts beautifully with its white flowers featuring soft yellow centers, alongside its vibrant green leaves.

But the real surprise this season wasn't just the flowers... look at what I found among its branches!

A massive seed pod! In the photo, I placed my hand next to it so you can appreciate its real size. This is the first time it has produced such a long and thick pod, so I'm excited to see how it matures.

Experiencing Nature in My Own Backyard, My Garden Update

Happy Friday everyone! It's been awhile since I've taken some pictures in the backyard. Probably the prettiest plant I have in bloom right now is this Purple Dome New England Aster. Gorgeous purple flowers everywhere and the bees love them! The bloom in the fall every year, and they came with the house when I bought it. I had considered replacing them until I saw them bloom the first time and they were keepers after that!

Unfortunately, this is on the neglected side of the house with the air conditioning units so it tends to get a lot of overgrown grass. This used to be an orange orchard, and the old orchard grass just keeps on growing no matter how hard I try to get rid of it! lol

Tomatoes

My tomatoes and peppers have been the stars of my backyard this year. There are more tomatoes to be picked every couple of days now. I picked a giant bag of cherry tomatoes yesterday so most of what you see are the unripe ones remaining. Give them a few days and I'll have another load to harvest!

The Roma hybrid which is a San Marzano is probably the best producer. They taste great and have produced so many I've had to bottle a few batches of them already. It looks like there are a few more to get picked today!

Peppers

This year I only grew jalapenos and shishito peppers. The jalapenos are a hybrid called La Bomba II, very good with thick walls and some very nice heat to them. I recently shared a post of roasting shishitos and bottling them as well. Below are some of my shishito plants:

I've had a hard time keeping up with bottling the jalapenos, they just keep growing more so fast... A good problem to have!

Broccolini

This is a hybrid of broccoli with Chinese broccoli developed in Japan around 30 years ago. It is more tender with smaller florets, but tastes really good. The real advantage is it grows in warmer climates than regular broccoli, and southern California is certainly warmer than broccoli would like. But my broccolini plants are very happy here!

I harvested a bunch yesterday so you can see where I cut off what I cultivated and the new shoots coming up for my next harvest in a week or so. It grows fast!

Basil

My basil continues to be happy, growing like crazy! It smells great!

Normally this time of year I like talking long walks in the late afternoon, but have been sidelined with some Achilles tendonitis. So I'm pretty limited to just the backyard right now! You make the best of it, it's all you can do I suppose...

Hello to the whole community. I present to you the chamomile plant that I have planted on my apartment balcony. It arrived thanks to my mom's persistence, and nowadays it means an immediate medicine when I have a digestive problem.

I water it every day, I never forget, either very early in the morning or late when the sun is no longer so strong. On these days that it has been raining, it has simply been watered with rainwater.

Although it might not be botanically correct, I keep it in a shady spot where it gets just a few rays of sunlight during midday, because exposed to daily sun it withers on me and I would forget to water it constantly since I am always busy doing things.

Actually, infusions from this plant are used to calm the nerves, for beauty treatments, and so on, but I only use it as a medicinal remedy. And I have a lot of love for my plant.

The truth is that there was a time when I was away from home and although I asked for it to be cared for, when I came back it was withered and I got so angry, but the great thing about chamomile is that just by watering it, despite severe damage, it begins to recover easily and sprouts beautifully. ❤️

Hola a toda la comunidad. Les presento la planta de manzanilla que tengo sembrada en el balcón de mi apartamento. Llegó gracias a mí gracias a la insistencia de mi mamá y hoy en día significa una medicina inmediata cuando tengo algún problema intestinal.

La riego todos los días, nunca se me olvida, bien temprano en la mañana o cuando es tarde y ya no se siente tan fuerte el sol. En estos días que ha estado lloviendo, simplemente se ha regado con agua de lluvia.

Aunque no sea lo botánicamente correcto, yo la tengo en un lugar con sombra, donde le da pocos rayos de luz solar durante el mediodía, porque expuesta a sol diario se me marchita y se me olvidaría regarla constantemente porque siempre estoy haciendo cosas.

Realmente, las infusiones de esta planta sirven para calmar los nervios, para tratamientos de belleza, etcétera, pero yo solo la uso como remedio medicinal. Y le tengo mucho amor a mi planta.

La verdad es que hubo un tiempo en que estuve lejos de casa y aunque pedí que me la cuidaran cuando regresé estaba marchita y me enfurecí tanto, pero lo genial de la manzanilla es que con solo echarle agua, a pesar de daños severos comienza a recuperarse fácilmente y brota hermosamente. ❤️

Our Newest Babies in the Garden

Happy Friday Hivers!

Squash is definitely one of the vegetables I really love. I can simply boil it, add some seasoning, and that’s already enough for me to enjoy as a meal. I actually prefer squash when it is very soft because it can also be made into squash soup. For me, that is already super delicious!

And of course, cucumber should never be left out! When I was still working an 8-to-5 job, cucumber was one of my favorite snacks. I had an officemate who also loved snacking on cucumber, so whenever I brought some to the office, I would invite her to the pantry so we could eat cucumber together, especially when they were extra crunchy. So simple, but super delicious!

I once told my mom that I wanted us to grow squash and cucumber in our garden. I thought it would be nice to just harvest my favorite vegetables from our own garden instead of buying them from the market. But my mom didn’t seem interested in planting those two, so I eventually forgot about it.

Then last week, she mentioned that she had seen squash and cucumber seeds at the store where she usually buys seeds. I was so happy because maybe she was finally interested in growing them too. And yesterday, we finally bought the seeds! Now, we finally have squash and cucumber seeds ready for our garden.

I’m really happy that we finally have the seeds. There are only two stores near us where we usually buy seeds, Metro Supermarket and Planters. I haven’t tried buying seeds online yet. Since Metro didn’t have squash and cucumber seeds available, we decided to buy them from Planters instead.

This morning, my mom already sowed the squash and cucumber seeds. I’m hoping they will grow just like our other vegetables that have given us plenty of harvests. There’s also a strong El Niño coming, so I really hope these little seeds will survive the heat and eventually give us a good harvest.

For now, we’ll just wait, take care of them, and see how they grow. It would be so satisfying to someday walk into the garden, pick a fresh cucumber for a snack, or harvest some squash for soup, knowing that we grew them ourselves.

Happy October HPUD! The 68.993 HIVE that I powered up this morning brought me to the new total of 36,444.386 Hive Power, and given that it's only Thursday, I should easily surpass 36,500 Hive Power before the end of the week. Even though my HP growth slowed a bit due to the falling APR for HP, it's still moving along at a very nice clip.

Something incredible happened on Satsman yesterday, and it makes me all the more grateful that Bradley (@bradleyarrow) signed up under me, and for a whole bunch of reasons. I've said before that Bradley is the best recruit anyone could ever want, and holy jumping fuckmuffins is that true! Yesterday, Bradley paid for my friend @nabbas0786, who signed up under Bradley, to become Satsman Founder #386, with the only request being that he do his daily free and Pro Max missions. This was an extremely kind gesture on Bradley's part indeed, and it goes to show just how much that he believes in Satsman and its mission, and how much that he wants to help people. I have a sneaky feeling that paying for fellow Hivers who signed up under him to become Founders is something that Bradley's been doing for a while now.
