Hello hive friends, hello everyone,hope everyone's doing great today, where ever part of the world you are right now..

Yesterday afternoon, my wife and I went to town to buy a clothes organizer for our daughter because her old one was already broken. After we finished shopping, we got hungry, so I suggested that we look for somewhere to eat. My wife was also starting to feel hungry, so we walked around looking for a place.
We couldn't find anything at first, but then my wife suddenly remembered that a newly opened restaurant had opened not too far from our house. She said it looked nice and that she wanted to try it. So, we immediately went home and invited our daughter to have dinner with us at the new restaurant.
However, she didn't want to come because she still had something to do. She said we could just bring her some takeout instead, so the two of us went by ourselves. Since the restaurant was fairly close to our house, we decided to walk there. I also brought my camera with me because I wanted to take some photos while we were there.
When we arrived, the small pond immediately caught my attention. They had several koi fish swimming in it, and I couldn't resist taking some photos. These are some of the pictures I captured of the koi fish.

The koi fish were beautiful and looked very healthy. They say that having koi fish in your business is considered good luck and can bring prosperity.
While I was taking pictures of them, they started swimming toward me and getting closer, as if they wanted me to pick them up.

Nos fuimos al sector El Basquero 📍 y, ¡uuff!, no les voy a mentir: el sol estaba picando sabroso y el calor del fenómeno El Niño no nos dio tregua ☀️ de nada. Pero cuando hay ganas de servir a la comunidad, ¡no hay clima que nos detenga! 💪🧹

Ahí estuvimos un grupo de trabajadores dándolo todo, limpiando y desmalezando cada callejón y cada esquina 🌿🌾. Cada machetazo y cada barrida iban cargados de muchísimo amor, esmero y ese entusiasmo que solo se siente cuando sabes que estás haciendo algo bueno por los vecinos y las familias del sector 🤝🏡.
Primero que nada, siempre le damos la honra y las gracias a Dios 🙏✨, porque Él es quien nos da la salud, la fuerza y la energía para levantarnos tempranito, agarrar nuestras herramientas y salir a sudar la camiseta con una sonrisa ☀️🙌.

We headed to El Basquero sector 📍 and, whew! I won't lie to you: the sun was scorching, and the heat from the El Niño phenomenon was no joke ☀️🔥. But when there’s a real desire to serve the community, no weather can stop us! 💪🧹

A wonderful group of workers was right there giving it their all, clearing weeds and cleaning up every street and corner 🌿🌾. Every swing of the machete and every sweep was filled with so much love, dedication, and that genuine enthusiasm you only feel when you know you’re doing something great for your neighbors and local families 🤝🏡.
Above all, we always give praise and thanks to God 🙏✨, because He is the one who grants us health, strength, and energy to wake up early, grab our tools, and head out to work hard with a big smile ☀️🙌.

We keep pushing forward and working with all our heart for our people! Thank you for reading and being part of this journey 💛.

A New Respect for Occupational Therapists

When my husband was preparing for discharge from the hospital in 2025, all kinds of specialists came to his bedside with volumes of paper work and sage advice. Among those who visited was an occupational therapist. This lovely woman had a collection of devices that would help him adjust to home life with a leg that wasn't going to work well for a while.

Below is a picture that shows some implements offered by the occupational therapist. I can identify a back sponge, a grabber, a shoe horn and specially adapted shoe laces. We can't figure out how the shiny blue item (looks like a scoop in the picture) was supposed to be used. The occupational therapist gave him a rundown on the purpose for each item, but there was so much happening that day, he doesn't remember what she said.

Last month my husband had another issue, unrelated to the leg, and was in the ICU for a few days. On discharge, once again, an occupational therapist visited and reviewed techniques he could use to transition safely to life at home. On his second encounter with the occupational therapist I paid close attention. That's because my granddaughter had just begun a graduate program in occupational therapy, and she has been working hard. More immediately she has been working hard and using me as a 'patient'.

I have to add here that paying close attention when a relative is in the hospital is a basic survival skill. The lovely, well-meaning occupational therapist was moving equipment into my husband's room from another patient's room...without sanitizing anything!! I asked politely if I could wipe down the equipment before my husband used it. She looked chagrined and wiped everything down. This is a really important step (patients in the ICU are especially vulnerable) to prevent transmission of pathogens from one patient to another (nosocomial transmission).

The occupational therapist had some good advice about the stages my husband should go through before standing. A sudden rise from a sitting position could lead to dizziness and a fall.

I imagined my granddaughter in that woman's role. I don't think my granddaghter would have neglected to sterilize shared equipment. In my family we're all germaphobes. While this can be annoying in everyday life, in a healthcare setting it is a very good trait to have.

Today I may be rehearsing with my granddaughter for an exam she is taking in the next few days. She does a lot of her graduate work remotely, through zoom sessions. I've already been on one zoom session with her teacher. We had a rehearsal before that session. My job was simply to respond to my granddaughter's cues as she worked on different tissue systems. Last week she worked on my arms. Tomorrow the session will focus on the lower part of my body and my legs.

Last night, before our rehearsal, my granddaughter told me I had to wear shorts. EEK!!! I'm 79 years old. She is going to have me in shorts on a live broadcast to her classroom. What a grandma does for love :)

Here is my aspiring occupational therapist when she was taking some of her first steps.

Not only am I to be in shorts, but I have to assume many different poses in these shorts as she works different tissue systems in my legs. She has to trace and identify these so that she knows how they all work together. It's a good thing I do yoga-type exercises before bed every night.

One thing I'm learning from my sessions as a 'patient' is that occupational therapists have at their command an enormous amount of information. I was a great biology student, in high school and college. However, I never before heard many of the terms she used. In order to be licensed to practice, the aspiring professional must pass the NBCOT (National Board for Occupational Therapy) exam.

Some of the terms I did recognize. As she went over my knee and said 'patella' I remembered my husband's orthopedist explained a reason he had difficulty straightening his leg was because of the patella tendon. 'Piriformis' was also a term I recognized. A few years ago I had a disabling issue with my piriformis muscle. A physical therapist helped me deal with that so it is not an issue any more.

It's hard to get true flexibility back in the tendon if you've had tibia replacement surgery (which is the surgery my husband had in 2025). Can we define as "love" that indescribable feeling we experience when we first lock eyes with a woman we have never met? Or is it the same feeling we get when returning to the land where we were born and raised—a place we haven't visited in a long time—and walking through the forest or listening to the sound of the sea? Yes, I am in love with this city. I am well aware that I have used this phrase a time or two; I view it as an expression used to describe something I truly love.

COUNTRYSIDE MORNING - (PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES)

Of all the mornings in my village, the cloudy ones are surely the best for taking photographs. And of those cloudy mornings, some of the most visually enchanting are those when you wander along a country lane and life begins to unfold slowly, and you have the feeling that you're on some planet where everything is rural and the sun seems reluctant to fully rise... Yesterday, I was finally able to bring all these things together... The morning, the fog, the countryside with its pastures, people going about their work, a few cows and herons that seemed to adorn some already exquisitely bucolic spaces... And me, observing all of this, understanding it, and taking these photographs which I'm sharing with you today on #Hive... And this is just the first part, as there were many more, because it was a morning of fog that settled in the valley for several hours, as if wanting to make up for the days I was absent from these places that I feel are so much a part of me...

De las mañanas de mi pueblo, seguramente las mejores para hacer fotografías son las nubladas. Y de lesas mañanas nubladas, unas de las más visualmente encantadoras, son aquellas en las que uno deambula por algún camino rural y la vida comienza a transcurrir lentamente, y se tiene la sensación de que se está en algún planeta en donde todo es campestre y el sol parece no querer terminar de salir del todo... Ayer, finalmente, puede conjugar todas estas cosas... La mañana, la niebla, el campo con sus pastizales, sus personas yendo a la faena, algunas vacas y garzas que parecían adornar algunos espacios ya de por sí exquisitamente bucólicos... Y yo mirando todo esto, entendiéndolo y haciendo estas fotografías las cuales dejo hoy aquí para compartir con ustedes en #Hive... Y esta es una primera parte, pues fueron muchas más, y es que fue una mañana de niebla posada en el valle por varias horas, como queriendo compensar los días en los que estuve ausente de estos espacios que siento tan míos...

The price was great, but the place was hell. The permanently smiling motherfuckers in the travel agency promised a raw, natural experience, and sure, they delivered.

A tractor tire was lying in the middle of the large stony arena, and on that black tire ...

... a grasshopper was dreaming of greener pastures.

A moth was also there. I don't know what he was dreaming about.
Both insects were souls of last year's visitors. What Miss Dingleton still hasn't realized ...

... is that she's dead and this is her afterlife. In the next few months, she'll turn into an insect and stay there forever.

All the photographs were taken in the abandoned stone quarry a couple of kilometers from the village of Liznjan. I pinned the post to the WorldMapPin map so you be able to see where the hell that metaphysical place is.

No person or insect was injured during the shooting. A friend who was posing for this little story is still alive, and she agreed to play a dead person in this post.

The ambiance of the stone quarry, especially when seen in black and white, reminded me of the old The Twilight Zone episodes I adored as a kid.
That's what inspired me to take a few photographs from the bunch I was preparing for a very long Natural history-themed post I already published a year or two ago.

The colorful photographs that show some real tourists and tourism-related stuff were taken yesterday in a few attractive spots a kilometer or two from Medulin, my hometown. It is the end of the season, but the nice weather is keeping the sea temperature high enough, prolonging the fun in the sun.

Hello everybody. Welcome back to Discovery-it!

In the first introductory guide we told you how to carry out Hive registration, how password management takes place, what is the Wallet and other fundamental concepts of our beautiful platform.

Today we are discovering how to write a post on Hive and what are the main codes that can be useful for formatting the text.

Let's start!

First, we need to consider that:

Markdown is the language proposed by Hive.blog and Peakd.com, it is easy to learn, fluent and very intuitive. Unfortunately, however, it also has a disadvantage, namely that it is not complete, as some particular commands are not provided and must be implemented with another language;
HTML is undoubtedly the most famous language for formatting and pagination of documents residing on the Web. It is 100% complete and allows you to perform many customizations of your work. In addition, HTML texts are easily exportable and usable in other Internet realities;
Peakd.com allows us, through its editor, to write posts with great intuitiveness. In fact, it has a very user-friendly interface that even novice users will find easy to use.

The choice of one or the other method is very personal and over time we are sure that you will find the best combination according to your needs!

Structure of a post

A generic post on Hive is composed of:

Title: It is the fundamental part that describes the content of what we are going to talk about or show. Try to avoid too long or too short titles: the former do not catch the attention, the latter are not exhaustive;
Body of the text: It can be divided into subtitles and contain images;
Tags: They must be inserted according to the main contents and allow you to categorize the different posts, allowing other users and curators to find you;

On Peakd you can also insert a brief description of the post.
The post can be posted on your blog or in a specific community.
