This isn't a #beersaturday post. This post serves as a personal archive. In principle, it will exist as long as the Hive Blockchain exists.
On the other hand, I will shorten my regular beer posts because they become hard to read towards the end of the year.

This is a summary and list of links to all the beers I tasted this year, and since the year isn't over yet, I'll probably add a few more.
It's already the tenth recap, and if I didn't do this, I would probably get lost...

Three Hazy IPAs on an Autumn Hike

#BeerSaturday has been quiet for a while, but I'm back with a new one anyway! With autumn slowly creeping in (there's even been a first dusting of snow on the mountains already), I decided to keep it nice and easy this time. Instead of a big mountain tour, I went for an easy hike to a grill spot, fired up the grill and cracked open a few good beers there. Sunny, crisp autumn weather and some food on the grill: the perfect setting for a proper tasting.

Two Flints - Nelson Sauvin
A tasty but pretty strong beer. Usually you'd expect a beer like this to slowly turn a bit boozy as you work your way through it, but that's absolutely not the case here. It's wonderfully fruity and nice and juicy from the first sip to the last, with that typical Nelson Sauvin character coming through nicely. A great match for a sunny autumn day!

Safety - All My Friends Beer Co.
A lovely beer with a seriously extreme cannabis aroma. On top of that there's a light but very recognisable cannabis flavour as well. It's so noticeable that I actually ended up searching online to check whether there was real weed in it. Definitely one of the more surprising beers I've had in a while.

Bølle - Mister B
As a third beer, I had a delicious NEIPA I brought back from Italy: Bølle. Super juicy and really tasty, definitely worth carrying all the way home.

To round it all off, I threw a classic Swiss cervelat on the grill. A good beer, a sizzling cervelat and the sun on my face with snowy peaks in the distance: that's what I call a perfect autumn day. Cheers!

Beer, politics and a "dark past".

Under the rug of Brazilian history, there are dirt that might even sound like a bad joke; but in reality, they are so true that they make us question how some mass communication mechanisms were so "bold" in their campaigns, and how justice (in different spheres) was so "permissive", so to speak. One of the most classic examples mixes beer and politics, using elections across the country as "showcases".

Antarctica (which today is one of the brands under the Ambev group; one of the largest - and most well-known - beverage companies worldwide, and a leader in Latin America), until the mid-90s, displayed its own logo on the front of voting booths. Without any discretion, and in large letters, the advertising for this product was absurdly obvious. What is now seen as an illicit act was not yet fully regulated at the time, and was legally accepted.

One of the most emblematic episodes of that past features the Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna voting in one of the booths sponsored by that brand. This reinforced the idea that the entire marketing campaign could be even more "viral", and have a broader impact (even though at the time, the technological spectrum could not measure what the future would be like after the birth of the internet). The act was permitted, but it already fueled a "debate" about morality (and ethics).

In that specific period of redemocratization, the Electoral Justice was burdened by a budgetary weight. Therefore, it was necessary to rely on the private sector's help to make the electoral process possible at the national level. Although it was a questionable "factor" (from a social perspective; since the law itself prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages on voting days), the decision was not initially vetoed because the justice system itself did not yet have clear parameters.

Within a dubious interpretation, the justice system did not allow this to happen... On the other hand, it also did not prohibit it. The essence behind this past is solely a "quid pro quo" based on money to subsidize the necessary structures that would make the mobilization of this type of event a reality. The definitive veto regarding this type of attitude only occurred after the 1998 elections. Since then, the justice system has a clear understanding of that past.

Whenever, for some reason, I "go back in time" to learn a bit more about the history of my own country, I can't understand how some episodes can be so "contradictory" in relation to what happens today; even though society has evolved (at least in theory, because in practice things are not so different within a more generic scope), some values are clear, and have always been treated as something non-negotiable.

Bajo la alfombra de la historia de Brasil, existen suciedades que hasta parecen sonar como una broma de mal gusto; pero que en realidad, son tan verdaderas que nos hacen cuestionar cómo algunos mecanismos de comunicación de masas eran tan "osados" en sus campañas, y cómo la justicia (en diferentes esferas) era tan "permisiva", por así decirlo. Uno de los ejemplos más clásicos mezcla exactamente cerveza y política, usando elecciones en todo el país como "vitrinas".

Beer Tasting 🍺 Erdinger Helles 🍻 Steam Brew German Red

How are you all doing?
The weather here has changed. It’s cold, rainy, and windy. I’ve been home all day, warm and dry, going through footage of bands I plan to post soon. And I’ve still got beer here—just two cans left until I restock!

I have two German cans in front of me. I already tasted one of them a few months ago.
I’m looking forward to finishing them and sharing this experience with you for #beersaturday.

Erdinger Helles 🍺

Brewed by Erdinger Weissbräu, Erding, Bayern, Germany.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.1% ABV, IBU 14. Lager, Helles.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Well said, haha. No monasteries, crystal-clear lakes, or water flowing down from the mountains. Just a love of beer.
By the way, Erdinger is better known for its wheat beer than for its lagers. I’ll try that sometime, too, since they have it at the local stores.

The beer is a clear yellow-gold color; the head is average and fades quickly. It finishes smoothly; on the palate, I taste malt and slight sweetness, with subtle bitterness which lingers until it fades completely.

I don’t have much to say here. It’s a very good lager; I can get it at local stores, though it's more expensive than it was when I first tried it two months ago. It’s now €2.14, whereas before it was under €2.
Yeah, everything’s more expensive now, not just beer. But wages and pensions are the same...

Steam Brew German Red 🍺

Brewed by Privatbrauerei Eichbaum, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 7.9% ABV, IBU 23. Bock or Red Ale style.

What do the Master Brewers say?

The strong, dark German Red beer charms with its pleasant aromatic note and intriguing reddish color, thanks to carefully selected, intensely kilned malt varieties. A light bitterness rounds out the flavor, as elegant as the Stranger herself.

I read that they don’t brew it anymore… but the steampunk design is cool.

The beer is dark brown, with very little head that dissipates quickly. It has a subtle caramel aroma. It goes down smoothly, and on the palate I detect sweetness, caramel, and dried plums.
The aftertaste fades quickly.

The beer is drinkable; you can taste the alcohol, which adds to the sweetness, but it’s not harsh, so it’s easy to drink.
Another one? I don’t know—the price is reasonable at €1.49, and it’s available at Lidl. It’s okay for now, but it’s nothing special.

#BeerSaturday Having a couple beers at home

My first #beersaturday post. Exciting times.

I haven't managed to get out much this week. The earlier starts at work (4 am starts) have drastically changed my bedtime. The weather has got colder and colder, and over this weekend we are currently going through a storm. and I am saving some money for birthday and Christmas treats. That being said, I have still managed to enjoy some beer.

First up, I treated myself to a few bottles of Tomos Watkin IPA. They were on a reduced-to-clear deal at the supermarket, and me wanting to indulge myself in different beers and explore tastes, picking this up was a no-brainer, especially with inflation seemingly going up as of late; beer prices in the UK are getting crazy. As for taste, I enjoyed this one; it was slightly sweet but not aggressive. It could be considered bland, but it was very drinkable.

Next up is my favourite Beer around. It was one of the first pints I ordered in a pub when I turned of legal drinking age, and Heineken has always stuck with me. Seeing that non-alcoholic beers are on the upward trend as of late. I thought I would give their 0.0 a go. I was pleasantly surprised. I noticed A taste different from its original, but it keeps that strong malty flavour, and it didn't seem too flat compared to other non-alcoholic beers I have tried.

It also gave me a reason to get out my cool metal beer coaster. Oh, and my cool Hive one too.

I like to hope I can visit some pubs soon or get some more unfamiliar beers in soon. When I don't have such early starts and have more days off between shifts, the next week is looking quite busy, but I have a few days off the following week due to birthday celebrations.

BeerSaturday Challenge - Mahou Beer: 135 years of Madrid in a can [Eng/Esp]

Hello, friends at Beer! It’s finally Saturday! I hope you’re having a restful day, a break from those grueling workdays spent earning fiat currency. I took my time today to put together my contribution to the #BeerSaturday Challenge. I visited several shops, liquor stores, and supermarkets, looking for something beyond the typical mass-produced commercial beers found here—I was on the hunt for craft or imported options, something different and new to try. I was even looking for the elusive Estrella Galicia Vintage, but it hasn’t arrived yet in the Candelaria district—a neighborhood with a very active Spanish community where such products usually show up.

However, I stumbled upon a small shop tucked away on a street corner that had exactly what I was looking for: craft and imported beers. The shopkeeper recommended a beer from Madrid that had just arrived—his personal favorite. My brother and I took a look; it certainly had a very appealing appearance, but what really sold me was the year associated with the brand: 1890—that’s 136 years of tradition! That was enough to convince me to give it a try. It’s the classic Mahou beer. But before I go on, as is customary in these challenge ceremonies, I’d like to nominate someone to join in—so, I’m nominating @sayury to take part in this exciting challenge!

I kept this beer in the freezer, waiting for the perfect moment to enjoy it. That moment finally arrived this weekend, just as I decided to try my hand once again at making a pasticho—the Venezuelan take on classic lasagna. So, taking advantage of a quiet Saturday with no pending tasks from my university job, I got to work.

One of the perks of being a scientist is that cooking is much like conducting an experiment: you simply follow the recipe—or protocol—precisely, and if you approach it with dedication, you’re sure to get good results. While I finished cooking the ground meat, I prepared a béchamel sauce—a recipe I’d already perfected the first time around. Next, I assembled the pasticho (lasagna). The first time I made it, I hadn’t used enough pasta sheets, so it ended up looking a bit incomplete—though it still tasted good—and I certainly wasn’t going to make that same mistake again. So, I bought enough pasta to build a multi-layered pasticho with meat, pasta, ham, more pasta, and Parmesan cheese.

Once assembled, I covered it and placed it in the oven at 180°C for 30 minutes. Afterward, I removed the aluminum foil and let it bake for another 15 minutes. The final result was absolutely perfect! I was really proud to have finally nailed it, so I moved on to the next step: letting it rest for about 45 minutes before serving myself a portion, paired with a Mahou beer.

There you have it, folks—doesn’t it look delicious? It sure does! I opened my Mahou—a Pilsner-style pale lager. It’s quite similar to the types of beers we drink here in the tropics, where the heat can be truly intense—believe me, it’s already a week into November, yet it feels like the middle of July! With an alcohol content of 4.8%, this beer is light and incredibly refreshing—the perfect companion for a good meal, in this case, a hearty serving of pasticho.

Cuba, tropical country, hot and if it is more to the east in Santiago de Cuba the temperatures can get very high, but it is not in a certain season of the year, simply Cuba is an eternal summer.

Right away we thought about refreshing with a very cold beer, no need for reasons of celebration. It is warm, money and a nice place, where you can talk, laugh and spend time.

Beer is one of the drinks that dissipate heat of course as soon as you drink it well cold you feel like your body refreshes instantly although cold deceiving because really what you feel cold, it is warming you up and is that really what beer does is warm you up.

As a good Cuban and of Santiaguero origin, the tierra caliente as all Cubans describe it, I love very cold beer, it doesn't matter if it's hot or cold.

Unfortunately for beer lovers our market is not constant with a specific type of beer, when you go looking for the one you like the most you find the one there, which is sometimes too low in degrees, too high for your taste or has a malty flavor.

Well, the Cuban fits the moment, if it's hot, a good glass, if you want to forget the problems, a Buccaneer and if you want to lose your way and get home the next day I think a Bavaria looks good. 🤭

Let's talk about the beer Parranda With an alcoholic strength of 4.8%, this golden and crystalline beer stands out for its lightness and refreshing character.

It is produced in the factory located in the Mariel Area, one of the most modern in the Latin American and Caribbean region Moderna. Its name seems to me as Creole as the carnival festivities of Cuba.

A good party full of music, drums that leaves you exhausted and also pleased.

The Parranda Moderna beer, brewed 100% in Cuba, which combines the freshness of the Caribbean with the traditional flavor of a good beer. It is sold in bottles of 1500, 330 and 500 ml.

I particularly prefer the 1500 ml one, I feel it has a better taste and with a bottle you can invite someone to accompany you while the heat dissipates.

I tell you that I am a little observant and I have noticed that these plastic bottles, which is what I disagree with, have double layers and with their use (the Cuban recycles and recycles) these layers separate and the water that is what is used for after the beer is finished takes on a strange flavor.

I don't want to give out wrong opinions but I do have my opinion about the plastic bottle that is used for its marketing.
For the rest I tell you that things in excess harm, it is better not to engage in excessive alcohol intake, let's dissipate the heat and continue on the road.

Beer Tasting 🍺 Kasteel Rouge 🍻 Chouffe IPA

How are you all doing?
I have to admit I'm pretty tired after a hard day; I worked outside all day, and since we didn't finish, I'll pick this up tomorrow.
But a beer (or two) on #beersaturday evening sounds good to me.

I have two bottles in front of me, both Belgian, but with very different tastes. I’m looking forward to finishing them and sharing this experience with you.

First, the one with less alcohol.

Kasteel Rouge

Brewed by Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck, Izegem, Vlaams Gewest, Belgium.
Bottle, 0.33 L, alcohol 8.0% ABV, IBU N/A. It's a fruit beer style.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Kasteel Rouge is a strong, ruby red beer brewed from Kasteel Donker and featuring Oblacinska cherries. With a deliciously velvety mouthfeel, its subtle acidity ensures that the sweetness of the cherries does not overpower the beer. The balance of flavors allows us to experience depth and complexity with every sip. With its distinctive dry finish, the beer is eminently drinkable.
Ready for ‘la vie en Rouge’?

Just last Saturday, I tried Kasteel Tropical, another fruit beer. Now I’m trying this classic cherry beer. I’m not really a fan of fruit beers, though. If I come across one, I'll give it a try; if not, that’s fine too.

The beer is ruby red, with a light, pinkish, creamy head. It smells like cherries. It goes down smoothly; in my mouth, I first taste a slight sweetness, then a distinct sour cherry flavor that shifts into tartness, with hints of caramel and malt. All of that fades in the aftertaste.
Although it’s quite strong, the alcohol isn’t noticeable and is well-hidden.

A beer to drink, refreshing, but not for kids :)
It’s also not meant for everyday drinking. It’s more of an aperitif or something like that—a fruit beer with an intense cherry flavor. Beer drinkers either love it or avoid it.
I tried it—too fruity for my taste—and this one bottle is more than enough for me. Plus, it’s pretty expensive. It costs €3.70 at a specialty store.

You see, we'd been making apple juice from the apples we'd picked all week from the orchard. Maybe...

Brewed by Brasserie d’Achouffe, Houffalize, Région Wallonne, Belgium.
Bottle, 0.33 L, alcohol 9.0% ABV, IBU 47. IPA (Belgian).

What do the Master Brewers say?

If I mentioned earlier that Rouge isn’t for kids (8% ABV), I have to emphasize that even more here (9% ABV)!

The beer has a slightly cloudy golden color; the head is average and fades quickly. It smells of hops.
It goes down smoothly; in my mouth, I immediately taste strong hop bitterness, a hint of citrus—grapefruit—and an herbal note of coriander.
The hop bitterness and coriander aroma linger in the aftertaste for quite some time.

A drinkable and tasty beer!
Very strong flavors and aromas, with a good balance between bitterness, citrus, and herbs. Very strong, but you don’t really feel the alcohol content (it’ll probably kick in later, after a couple of beers :) )
It’s not a typical American West Coast IPA, but rather a European (Belgian) herbal-fruity IPA. It’s not exactly cheap—I got it at a specialty store for €4.10. Beer prices here have gone up by about 30%–40% over the past year, so this is among the most expensive. But what can you do? You’ve got to give it a try :)

BeerSaturday - Soleil Automne (Boldwin)

With the return of @detlev especially with his photos on his last post (neau beer from Eupen), I wanted to drink a good beer. And when I opened my HIVE drafts, I noticed that I hadn't posted this Soleil Automne (Autumn Sun) from the brewery Boldwin taken at the campsite a few weeks ago (see Wednesday Walk: Cliff Trail, Mastigouche (Quebec)). It's a beer that I drink often but it's funny to see that perceptions change with the conditions and the environment in which we find ourselves...

Avec le retour de @detlev surtout avec ses photos sur son dernier post, cela me faisait envie de boire une bonne bière. Mais en ouvrant les brouillons, j'ai remarqué que je n'avais pas posté cette Soleil Automne de la brasserie Boldwin prise au camping il y a quelques semaines (voir Wednesday Walk : Sentier de la Falaise, Mastigouche (Quebec)). This is not the first time that I have presented this brewery to you. But as a reminder, Boldwin was founded in 2016 by Daleyne Guay, Jean-François Giguère, Isabelle Théroux and Olivier Thomann. The idea behind the project is to produce artisanal, organic and socially responsible beers using cereals grown organically in Quebec.

Ce n'est pas la première que je vous présente cette brasserie. Mais pour rappel, Boldwin a été fondé en 2016 par Daleyne Guay, Jean-François Giguère, Isabelle Théroux et Olivier Thomann. L'idée derrière le projet est de produire des bières artisanales, bios et socialement responsable en utilisant des céréales cultivées biologiquement au Québec.

🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :

I had already presented this beer during BeerSaturday 377. But the conditions were completely different and you can also see it in the photos. The colors are much more beautiful outdoors with this beautiful amber dress.
The Autumn Sun is a red ale with 5% alcohol with a more sustained bitterness than usual. In the camping conditions and after a short walk, I didn't feel the bitterness, it was very refreshing and perfect for relaxing before preparing the evening meal and the campfire.

J'avais déjà présenté cette bière lors BeerSaturday 377. Mais les conditions étaient complétement différentes et cela se voit aussi sur les photos. Les couleurs sont beaucoup plus belles en extérieur avec cette belle robe ambrée.
La Soleil automne est une red ale avec 5% d'alcool avec une amertume plus soutenue que d'habitude. Dans les conditions de camping et après une petite marche, je n'ai pas senti l'amertume, elle était bien rafraichissante et parfaite pour relaxer avant de préparer le repas du soir et le feu de camps.
