Five Billion Against Traffic Jams: What They Want to Change on Tenerife

Anyone who lives on Tenerife knows: distance on the map here has long since ceased to mean travel time. Especially in the mornings and evenings, when the island’s main roads turn into one giant traffic jam.

The Cabildo (local government) has approved a comprehensive Sustainable Mobility Plan for Tenerife by 2035: 92 measures and around €5.1 billion in investments.

And it’s not just about new roads. The plans include developing public transport, new traffic interchanges, park-and-ride parking areas, and improving connections between different parts of the island.

The reason is clear: Tenerife is growing, the tourist flow remains enormous, the number of cars is increasing, and the existing infrastructure is already struggling to cope with this load.

Of course, 2035 is not tomorrow. But if at least a significant part of what’s planned is implemented, traveling around the island in a few years could really become easier.

And for now, the locals’ rule remains the same: before you drive – check the traffic jams. 🚗

Santa Cruz isn’t going to sleep: Plenilunio is returning

If you don’t have plans for these weekend – there’s a good reason to head to Santa Cruz.

From October 2nd to 4th, the city transforms into one giant venue for Plenilunio Santa Cruz. The program includes more than 100 events across approximately 20 city locations: music, concerts, street performances, gastronomy, exhibitions, children’s activities, and much more to discover simply by wandering through the center.

One of the nice bonuses is that on October 3rd and 4th, admission to MUNA, the Natural History and Archaeology Museum will be free. Advance registration will be required for some tours and workshops.

I really like this format: you can’t really plan anything special, just arrive in Santa Cruz, leave your car away from the center, and just go where you hear music and people gather.

So, if you haven’t visited the capital of the island in a while – these weekend are more than suitable.

And do you often visit Santa Cruz for leisure, not for business? 🏝️

V Čechách máme, zatím, pěkné babí léto. Skvělá příležitost pro krátké i dlouhé výlety.

In the Czech Republic, we have a nice Indian summer so far. A great opportunity for short and long trips.

**Welcome to the announcement of the twenty-second round of the seventh annual photography competition for all Hive users
Vítejte u vyhlášení dvacátého druhého kola sedmého ročníku fotografické soutěže pro všechny uživatele Hive**

𝓐𝓻𝓸𝓾𝓷𝓭 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓦𝓸𝓻𝓵𝓭

And also for photography! The mornings are cold, but the early evenings are not that cold yet. This gives you the opportunity to take interesting pictures. Light can make even an uninteresting place interesting :-).

Just be careful when walking and hiking in nature. It is the rutting season. You could come across a longed-for deer, for example, and that might not turn out well.

East of the famous German Luther-Town Wittenberg and just a few meters from the state border lies the "Linda" special weapons depot. In the event of war, NVA (East German Army) missile troops would have been supplied with nuclear warheads from this top-secret facility.

Leather chair infront of the secret bunker

It might be the commander’s armchair standing alone in the woods, surrounded by stunted conifers and half-sunk into the soft moss. As if still standing guard, it sits before the entrance to a blast shelter that is barely discernible amidst the surrounding greenery.

A shelter to protect the bunkers

A "special weapons depot"

Nature has done a thorough job over the past three decades. The Stolzenhain special weapons depot—unofficially known as "Lager Linda" (Camp Linda)—was one of the GDR’s most closely guarded state secrets prior to 1990.

No one was supposed to know what was hidden here in the forest—alongside what is now the B 101 highway at the edge of the Niederer Fläming region—after soldiers from the NVA’s 4th Infantry Division’s 4th Engineer Battalion began fencing off a large area and breaking ground in May 1967. In addition to barracks and garages, they poured two identical concrete storage bunkers into the sandy soil, concealed by the dense tree cover.

The training room, filled with GDR-era school furniture.

However, this secret facility was not intended for the GDR army, but rather for the occupying forces from the Soviet Union—officially referred to as "friends." "Military service in the USSR Armed Forces—an honorable duty for Soviet citizens" and "The Soviet Army is the shield that reliably defends socialism"—these slogans remain visible to this day on two pillars at the outermost checkpoint of the site east of Wittenberg.

The door to the secrets

Secret name "Object 4000"

The GDR invested around nine million East German marks in "Object 4000"—located less than a kilometer from the border between Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg—a site whose existence is now known only to bunker tourists and enthusiasts of abandoned places.

The barrack

At the entrance to the Linda special weapons depot, an inscription refers to "military service in the USSR Armed Forces" as "an honorable duty for Soviet citizens."

Installation, russian style

Up to 200 nuclear warheads—designed for delivery by missiles ranging from the short-range Frog-3 to the long-range SS-23—were stored here. Floor plans from identical depots in Poland, on display at the Cold War Museum in Kołobrzeg, reveal the layout: here, as at the twin facility near Lychen, there were four large halls where warheads stood lined up on small carts.

The electric fence

Greater than that of Hiroshima

The smaller warheads possessed a destructive power slightly greater than that of the Hiroshima bomb, while the larger ones, with an explosive yield of 500 kilotons, were nearly 40 times more powerful.

Traces of the history

Osaka Places I Visit Again and Again

As a Kiwi who has lived in Osaka for eight years and counting, I've naturally had my fill of the city's major tourist attractions. Don't get me wrong, Osaka Castle and Dotonbori are worth seeing at least once. However, these are the places I actually keep going back to, whether I'm meeting friends, looking for a good meal, or simply enjoying a day off.

Table of contents

☕Brooklyn Roasting Company (Cafe)

🍃Minoh Falls & Katsuoji Temple

🛍️Rinku Premium Outlets

🐔Torikizoku (Yakitori)

☕Brooklyn Roasting Company (Cafe)

I'm always looking for a great latte. Brooklyn Roasting Company is my favourite because the coffee is strong and the milk is properly textured. Not to mention, the cup size is generous and you are likely able to find a seat if you go alone or with a friend. I visited the Namba branch often when I lived closer, but the Kitahama branch is my go-to now. If I'm craving a proper latte in Osaka, this is still my first choice.

🍃Minoh Falls & Katsuoji Temple

If I had to pick one time to visit, it would be May or June, just before the rainy season. The vivid light green of new momiji leaves (新緑 shin-ryoku) is my favourite time to be outside. If you don't have enough time, Minoh Falls (箕面大滝) is enough. The trail to the waterfall is maintained so anyone can visit. Bring a sandwich or onigiri to enjoy once you arrive, but make sure to keep an eye out for monkeys who will nick them without mercy!

Katsuoji Temple (勝尾寺), also known as the Daruma Temple, is further up the hill and only accessible by bus or car. In my opinion, it's worth visiting at least once. The spacious temple grounds and surrounding nature are my favourite escape from the city.

🛍️Rinku Premium Outlets

I'm an opportunistic shopper, so I love a bargain. There are so many major brands gathered here in one place and everything is discounted. I went a lot during my early 20's when I was still building my closet, but I still drop by every now and then to window shop. There is also the LaLaport Kadoma in Osaka which is nice because it's located indoors, however in my experience, I tend to find better bargains at Rinku.

🐔Torikizoku (Yakitori)

I can't tell you the number of times I've been here. All year round, for any occasion. All menu items have a uniform price, and the quality is unbeatable. My recommendations are the signature Torikizoku-yaki (chicken thigh with spice version), chicken hearts, and grilled grated yam (yamaimo teppanyaki). I remember the times when it used to be 280 yen per item, but that's slowly gone up to 390 yen and now 410 yen from October 2026. I love this chain too much to quit, so I will savour every bite more from now on.

In reality, I work full-time from Monday to Friday and spend many weekends doing ordinary things like laundry, meal prep, and catching up on life. But that's exactly why I value these places so much. They're not necessarily Osaka's most famous attractions, but they are the places I keep choosing to return to. After eight years here, I think that's the highest recommendation I can give.

View this post on TravelFeed for the best experience.

Glass House Mountains Conservation parkrun, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.

We went to Glass House mountains Conservation parkrun for my 64th different event back in early 2021. It was their 52nd event so there first birthday, a few other uber tourist we know showed up as well. It is located about an hour and a half north of Brisbane in the hinterland behind the famous Sunshine Coast beaches.

The course is 2.5 kilometre straight down an old rail trail and then straight back. I really enjoy the out and backs as you get to see everyone though I would prefer that it was not mostly up hill on the way back. The conservation park was full of native trees and plants, but the surrounding area is well known for growing pineapples and lots of them. The old train line was used to transport all the pineapple to Brisbane where they were and still are processed into all different types of products. Mainly drinks and canned. Funny thing is I worked in that factory for over 20 years! Ar! the good old days bring back so many memories.

There are no toilets or facilities at the starting area but there is a small town not too far away. parking is a bit tight too, but it usually only has a small group of runners and walkers which means there is a good chance to talk to just about everyone.

It works similar to the old EasyEditor: You can add a new block by starting a new line and either click the + or type
/
(this is new: it was tab in the old editor). Blocks can still be all kinds of different things, from simple paragraphs, headings and tables to photo galleries and map embeds. You can drag blocks around to move them up and down. To format text or add links, just as before, highlight the text you want to format.

Pasting formatted text works much better now. The new editor also supports basic Markdown:
**
and
*
are converted into the preview as soon as you close the tag, and headings can be created with
##
at the start of a line.

We have also expanded the use of AI inside the editor. The highlight options include an AI button that gives you several AI options, such as fixing spelling & grammar, making it shorter and improving the writing. You can also open the AI panel using the keyboard shortcut
⌘J
(
Ctrl+J
on Windows) if you want to have the AI analyze the full paragraph. Unlike the old editor, the AI suggestion doesn't replace anything directly, but shows you a preview that you can accept or reject.

Also, you can now directly create and embed Magic Maps itineraries from inside the editor. And the SEO panel in the side comes with improved performance and AI enhancements and shows you a preview of how your post will look like in Google, helping you optimise your posts to rank better.

The new editor also brings new options that will take effect in TravelFeed Hosting in the next update. For your own site, you can control the attributes of each link in your posts.

For the full list of features, check our help center article on using the editor. If you would rather keep using the old editor, you can switch back in the settings.

We have done lots of testing of the new editor, but this update is a big one. If you notice a bug, please let us know.

AI Blogger Updates

We have also redesigned the AI Blogger from scratch. The idea of AI Blogger has always been that it helps you write a blog from your own notes. But with the original version, especially when the supplied notes were to thin, it could happen that the AI would hallucinate and write up classic slop to fill the gaps - exactly what we wanted to prevent in the first place. The new AI Blogger uses smarter AI and now requires you to upload at least 5 of your own photos in addition to your trip notes.

AI then looks at your photos and trip notes and clusters the photos based on GPS data and image recognition matched to your notes. It then interviews you based on the things that would be great content for the post but were missing from your notes, such as where did you stay, what did X cost, what did you find overrated, where was this photo taken etc. The more you answer, the better your post will be. It then gives you a few proposals of an article outline. You choose one. Then, the AI identifies information gaps and automatically researches them on the web - things such as entrance fees, travel times or opening times. You then see each researched fact with a source and can approve or reject them. Finally, the AI writes a full post draft for you. It arranges your supplied photos nicely, including in image galleries. Of course, as always, read the draft before publishing and change things the AI got wrong.

Redesign is live: We want your input

Big update just went live on travelfeed.com. Quick heads up on what changed and what didn't.

Post pages and profiles got a full redesign, along with some other parts such as our front page and destination overviews that feature your posts. Not everything is on the new look yet but the main parts are live. Your posts deserved a better stage, that's why we started here.

The dashboard is staying exactly as it is, that's the plan. Feeds, editor, settings, all the same. We want to keep the familiar stuff familiar.

We are now fully syncing your Hive follows, so if you Have your Hive account linked on TravelFeed, anyone you follow or unfollow on TravelFeed, you unfollow or follow on Hive. Follows/unfollows that you make on other Hive frontends are synced to TravelFeed once a day - the first sync is running as this post is published. This means your TravelFeed account now shows your full follower count on Hive - plus any TravelFeed followers you have who don't have a Hive account yet.

Oh, and your post previews will now show you exactly how your posts will look like in the new design.

A couple things we need from you: if something looks broken, let us know. We've tested many different posts and dark mode vs light mode, but it's easy to miss something in such a huge update.

And honest take on the dashboard and feed: Do you agree to keep them the way they are, or would you rather have them redesigned down the road?

If if you would like any changes to the dashboard: Would you prefer a new editor, improve the existing one or keep the familar one the way it is? And should we work on improving AI Blogger with the latest AI tools, or do you prefer hand-writing posts anyway?

And for our TravelFeed Hosting subscribers: Do you like your blog the way it is, or would you like the option for new looks there too?

Leave a comment below!

We're thrilled to share some exciting news about the future of travel mapping on the Hive blockchain!

tl;dr: How to Pin To TravelFeed Map

https://youtu.be/q01ndHgpv5Q

Go to https://travelfeed.com/map

Click the create pin button.

Drag the marker to where your post should be. Zoom in if needed. You can also use the search bar (top right) or your location (left).

Copy and paste the generated code in your post (on any Hive frontend).

OR login with Hive Keychain/Hivesigner/HiveAuth first and click "create post" to post to Hive directly from TravelFeed (the code snippet is not required then).

Congrats, your post is now on the map!

Unlike on Worldmappin, the marker is moved via drag and drop instead of a click. This is to improve mobile usability. Otherwise, everything works similar, though we have added a cool new 3D Globe Mode:

https://youtu.be/uF-XnmKvrFg

TravelFeed Map pins also appear on Worldmappin

If you are already using TravelFeed map, there is no need for an additional code snippet.

If you have previously posted on Hive using the Pinmapple or Worldmappin code snippet, you can import them to TravelFeed.

For those using TravelFeed Hosting, you can have a dynamic map of all your posts on your own domain. See example.

Two Platforms, One Goal

As many of you know, Pinmapple announced its closure in May 2024.

We stepped up to preserve the pins for the TravelFeed community and to ensure that the valuable service provided would continue with our TravelFeed Map.

@detlev and @lizanomadsoul shared our vision of preserving this crucial feature for the community from the very first moment on. They assembled a team to continue Pinmapple as @worldmappin and two weeks later, Pinmapple handed over the service, pins and community to them.

While we considered joining forces to run a single map, we realized that our projects have distinct focuses that deserve individual attention:

Worldmappin: Worldmappin in the long run aims to develop into a versatile mapping application that caters to various topics and communities, extending beyond travel.

TravelFeed: We will continue to focus exclusively on travel content, with our integrated map feature designed specifically for this purpose.

While we both want to continue Pinmapple’s functionality for the Hive community, these different approaches mean that not all pins on Worldmappin are also relevant for the TravelFeed Map.

Changes to Pinning Your Travel Posts

After thoughtful discussions, we've come to an agreement that we believe will best serve all users:

TravelFeed will still use the Pinmapple code snippet.

Posts published through TravelFeed or using the Pinmapple code snippet generated on the TravelFeed Map will be pinned to both TravelFeed and Worldmappin maps. Those posts will have two comments, as they will be available on both maps.

These posts will also be curated by both TravelFeed and Worldmappin curation teams.

Posts using the Worldmappin code snippet generated on the Worldmappin website will be pinned only on Worldmappin and not on the TravelFeed Map. In that case you will only find a comment from Worldmappin. These posts will be curated only by Worldmappin.

This arrangement ensures that travel-related content receives maximum exposure while allowing Worldmappin to cater to a broader range of topics.

What This Means for You

As a TravelFeed user, nothing changes - your posts will continue to be pinned to and curated by both maps. There is no need to add two code snippets.

If you are using Worldmappin to pin your travel posts to the TravelFeed Map, this will no longer work. Your posts will be pinned only to Worldmappin and you will only get the Worldmappin comment.

Looking Ahead

TravelFeed and Worldmappin are both committed to providing the best possible experience for the Hive community.
