Hello, today I share my latest drawing session with you. I'm still focused on improving my eye drawing, and after seven sessions dedicated entirely to this organ, I think I'm starting to notice some improvements in the results and, above all, a greater understanding of the muscles around the eye and how they affect the gaze and how the entire pupil is shown or not.

Although some angles still resist me, I think I have managed to overcome mistakes I used to make while drawing and have achieved a little more realism.

In this second image I used a head as a reference to draw the eye area; I did the drawing twice, the first with the usual HB pencil and the second with a ballpoint pen; both results were better than I expected.

The third image is six eyes from faces in different positions that I drew, and I think that so far they are my best eye drawings. I did it with pencil and used hatching to draw the darkest areas.

I kept this portrait simple and focused on character rather than perfect detail. I used bold lines and cross-hatching to build the facial structure, shadows, and expressive, while leaving parts of the face open to give the drawing a raw, unfinished quality. I like how the sketch feels direct and expressive without needing too much detail.

I had gone a long time without drawing anything and without the desire to do anything, in general.

While I was scrolling through Pinterest, some Junji Ito illustrations came up, and a photo of a girl with that haircut also came up. My mind combined both things, and I decided to draw a girl with an unsettling aura, I hope I achieved it.

I'm very drawn to eyes without irises or pupils, because besides that unsettling vibe, they're mysterious, since you can't decipher what is hidden behind those fogged-up windows of the soul...

I started by making a sketch composed of the most general shapes, using geometric figures. Then, I drew the eyes, nose and mouth more clearly. The next thing was to pass the eraser gently over the drawing, to remove the guide lines but without erasing the general idea.

I gave more shape to the facial features, adding subtle shadows with circular strokes, especially on the lips, emphasizing the shape of a smile. The next thing was to give more depth to the hair using long, continuous strokes. I added shadows on the neck and the sides of the face to give more depth to the face and I traced the collarbones.

Although it seems like the drawing is ready, there was a last step that I added at the last minute. With my finger I blended the entire surface of the drawing, to distribute the graphite over the whole area, then with soft strokes I added specific shadows in the areas where it's supposed to be deeper. Lastly, I passed an eraser over the most illuminated areas of the face and hair; especially on the eyes, so that it would also seem like they shine on their own. And that would be all.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una creación de la que me siento muy orgullosa porque fue todo un reto.

Como algunos ya saben, me encanta trabajar con mis manos, y en esta ocasión me animé a crear una figura de Doraemon, el icónico gato cósmico del futuro.

Decidí hacerlo en cerámica y luego le di vida con un pintado completamente a mano.

El proceso fue todo un reto. Primero, moldear el barro para lograr esa forma redondeada tan característica de su cabeza y su cuerpo requirió mucha paciencia. Una vez que la pieza estuvo lista y seca, llegó mi parte favorita: ¡la pintura! 🖌️

Usé colores acrílicos vibrantes para capturar su esencia: el azul clásico de su cuerpo, el blanco de su rostro y panza, y por supuesto, el rojo intenso de su nariz y su collar. Los detalles más delicados, como los bigotes, la sonrisa y ese icónico cascabel amarillo con líneas marrones, necesitaron un pulso muy firme y mucha concentración.

El resultado final me encanta. Es una pieza única que ahora decora mi espacio y me saca una sonrisa cada vez que la veo. Me encanta cómo quedó el brillo del color y la textura de la cerámica.

THE FACE IN THE SKETCHBOOK Exploring Portraiture Through Pencil

Every portrait begins with observation.

This piece is a pencil portrait study created as part of my continuous exploration of portraiture. Rather than simply trying to reproduce a face, I wanted to pay attention to the elements that give a portrait its character—the proportions, expression, structure, light, and shadow.

The Idea Behind the Work

For me, portraiture is a way of studying people through visual language.

A face can communicate emotions, personality, and presence without saying a single word. The eyes, the shape of the mouth, the direction of the light, and even the smallest changes in shadow can completely change how a portrait feels.

While working on this piece, I focused on gradually building the facial structure with pencil, using different pressures and tones to create depth and definition.

A Study, Not Just a Drawing

I consider this work part of my artistic development.

My sketchbook is where I experiment, observe, make corrections, and strengthen my understanding of form. Every study gives me an opportunity to improve my ability to see—not just what is in front of me, but how light, proportion, texture, and expression work together.

I believe that artistic growth is built through consistent practice. A sketch does not have to be perfect to be meaningful; it can simply be another step toward becoming better.

As Emmiesteve, I am exploring portraiture alongside landscapes, nature, and other forms of visual expression.

🎬 From an Idea to a Parody | Solo Leveling Illustration Process

Today I want to share with you the process behind an illustration I created for a parody of the anime Solo Leveling. This artwork is part of a project I have in mind: creating a YouTube channel dedicated to parodies of movies, TV series, and anime. 🎥😂

For this particular illustration, I wanted to create a funny and exaggerated scene inspired by Solo Leveling, while giving the characters a more humorous and cartoonish style. I also included the name of the future YouTube channel, “La Risotá,” in the final artwork.

Here is the step-by-step process:

🔵 Step 1 — Initial Sketch

I started with blue strokes, using quick and simple lines to establish the composition, character positions, expressions, and the overall structure of the scene.

🔴 Step 2 — Initial Line Art

Once the composition was defined, I created a red line art without many details. This helped me clean up the initial sketch and establish the main shapes of the characters.

✏️ Step 3 — Detailed Line Art

After that, I worked on the detailed line art, refining the characters' faces, hair, clothing, hands, expressions, and other elements of the scene.

🎨 Step 4 — Initial Coloring

With the line art finished, I added the base colors. At this stage, I focused on establishing the main color palette without adding the final shadows and details yet.

🔥 Step 5 — Finished Illustration

Finally, I added the details, shadows, lighting, and finishing touches to complete the artwork. I also incorporated the name of the future YouTube channel, “La Risotá,” into the final composition.

This illustration is part of the beginning of a project that I hope to turn into an entertaining YouTube channel, where I can share my own parodies of anime, movies, and TV series.

I hope to share more artwork from this project soon and, eventually, bring these parody ideas to life through videos. 🎬✨

Greetings, Sketchbook community! A few days ago, I had the chance to enjoy some incredibly delicious, juicy apples. Their fresh flavor and vibrant color really caught my eye, instantly inspiring me to sketch something in my notebook. So, I set out to draw a beautiful apple tree, aiming to recreate that rustic, natural atmosphere. I drew inspiration from a real tree located near a lovely, picturesque spot in the countryside—the very place where they serve these delicious fruits straight from the harvest. In this drawing, I wanted to capture not just the tree's structure, but also the freshness and tranquility of that country setting I enjoyed so much. I hope you enjoy the result as much as I enjoyed the process!
