El Niño’s Global Economic Ripple Effects: How a Pacific Climate Pattern Shakes Markets Worldwide

yeckingo1 — Sat, 03 Oct 2026 16:31:00 GMT

El Niño is a recurring climate phenomenon characterized by the unusual warming of surface waters in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. Occurring roughly every two to seven years and lasting several months to over a year, it disrupts normal atmospheric circulation and weather patterns across the planet. While it is a natural part of Earth’s climate system, its economic consequences are far-reaching, influencing agriculture, energy markets, commodity prices, trade, insurance costs, and overall economic growth in both developed and developing nations.

Agricultural Disruption and Food Price Volatility

Agriculture bears some of the most immediate and visible impacts. El Niño typically brings drought to regions such as Australia, Indonesia, parts of Southeast Asia, southern Africa, and northern Brazil, while increasing rainfall and flooding risks in parts of South America, the southern United States, and East Africa.

These shifts reduce yields of key staple and cash crops. Rice production in Asia can decline significantly during strong events, while wheat, corn, and soybean harvests face pressure in affected areas. Coffee, cocoa, sugar, and palm oil supplies are also vulnerable. Reduced output drives up global commodity prices, raising food costs for consumers and importing countries. For net food-exporting nations, lower volumes can cut export revenues; for importers, higher prices strain household budgets and can fuel inflation.

Historically, strong El Niño episodes have contributed to sharp spikes in food prices. The resulting pressure is felt most acutely in low-income countries where food accounts for a large share of household spending, sometimes exacerbating poverty and social unrest.

Energy Markets and Power Generation

El Niño influences both energy demand and supply. Warmer temperatures in many regions increase the need for air conditioning, boosting electricity consumption and raising demand for fossil fuels or other power sources. At the same time, reduced rainfall can lower hydroelectric generation capacity in countries that rely heavily on dams, such as parts of Latin America and Asia. This forces greater dependence on more expensive thermal power plants, elevating electricity prices and production costs for energy-intensive industries.

Oil and gas markets can also feel secondary effects through weather-related disruptions to infrastructure or shifts in heating and cooling demand patterns across hemispheres.

Fisheries, Trade, and Supply Chains

In the eastern Pacific, the warming waters suppress nutrient-rich upwelling that sustains rich fisheries off the coasts of Peru and Ecuador. Catches of anchovies and other species often plummet, affecting the global supply of fishmeal used in animal feed and aquaculture. This can ripple through livestock and seafood markets.

Extreme weather associated with El Niño—stronger storms, heavier rains, or prolonged dry spells—can damage ports, roads, and rail networks, delaying shipments and increasing logistics costs. Global supply chains, already sensitive to disruptions, face higher risks of delays and inventory shortages for agricultural and industrial goods.

Insurance, Infrastructure, and Fiscal Costs

Increased frequency or intensity of extreme weather events leads to higher claims for crop insurance, property damage, and business interruption. Governments often face elevated disaster-response and reconstruction spending, which can widen budget deficits, particularly in vulnerable developing economies. Private insurers may raise premiums, transferring costs to businesses and households.

Broader Macroeconomic Consequences

Economic research has quantified measurable effects on growth. Strong El Niño events have been associated with temporary reductions in global GDP growth, with larger impacts in climate-sensitive sectors and regions. Developing countries in the tropics often experience more pronounced slowdowns due to their higher dependence on agriculture and limited adaptive capacity. Commodity-exporting nations may see mixed results: some benefit from higher prices, while others suffer from production shortfalls.

Inflationary pressures from food and energy can complicate monetary policy. Central banks may face difficult trade-offs between supporting growth and containing price rises. Financial markets also respond: agricultural futures, energy prices, and the currencies of commodity-dependent economies frequently show heightened volatility during El Niño periods.

No big plans for another weekend. Monsoon season is ending. No fun that's it's once again warmer. With the advance warning of a super el nino, the amihan season might not bring cooler weather. Now that's really dreadful, esp. if there's potential to another hellish summer season. TSK 😖

![8d34bd1d-5bbf-4551-8df9-3efda28316d2.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/iamraincrystal/Eonk3CFVr32cr9UEzDRW9vVRKxJYJtHHaMxXSXEMe9mKqzfzZmtDryLXxATnJL4weTA.jpg)

And then there were three... 😒 that's for added Caturday update since I'm posting this the following morning. 😅 Better late than never I'd say. 😆I've hired a helper for the month who would be coming in three times a week on weekdays. Hopefully that helps ease my condition as well as catch up on some home chores needing to be done. I'm adjusting to the situation esp. to the added expenses. Let's see how it goes...

Prompt A Day : QUOTE

shoutout to @shadowspub for the daily prompt (subscribe to her newsletter)

It's all connected. Would you believe that too? All living things are interconnected I'd say. Have the compassion esp. for beings most humans deem as lesser than man. TSK. Can't understand those who would harm stray animals as if they are the only beings with the right to exist on this plane of existence. 😒 I try not to take things too seriously these days, but in all honesty, the planet is going through some shitty stuff at present. Can't stop wars and strifes -- I am but an NPC after all -- but I can do my best in honoring and respecting living things around me. That's my tiny contribution to the planet. 🙏💞💡

PS. I did watch Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Weird and wacky but a fun watch 😅

Time to stake some ALIVE tokens again. I added another 110 ALIVE tokens to my stakes.

Also time to share the latest earnings from promoting my LL coop link. I think it's a little low for the past week, but I hope it increases over the next few weeks again.

I'm working towards reaching another payout on LL. That's one reason I actively work on my affiliate sites daily. Next target $6.

Another weekend is here. Do find time to rest, relax and recharge. The month has just begun. Let's enjoy the ride. 🎉 Ta-tah! 👋

Warm greetings all! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

I seriously can't believe that it's already October, and that we only have just under three months until we usher in 2027. A whole lot of interesting things have happened within the past 3/4 of 2026, and even with the notable challenges that Hive has been facing, I remained determined and focused in my building and growing, and in assisting and supporting the We Are Alive Tribe, and the greater Hive community, and I was thankfully able to make some huge strides in asset growth, especially in terms of my Hive Power, which will reach 37,000 before the end of this month. I'm sad that I had to sacrifice my nice chunk of HBD that was growing in savings to boost my HP so substantially, but it was worth it I think, and the extra HP has definitely come in handy.

The two most notable new and amazing things that came into my awareness in 2026, and that became primary components of my daily flow, are without a doubt Hermes Agent and Satsman. Both of them have been absolute game changers for me in their respective domains, which is exactly why I've been talking about them both so much in my posts over the past few weeks and months.

Bitcoin Has Re-Entered a Bull Cycle: Why the Next Leg Higher Is Underway

yeckingo1 — Fri, 02 Oct 2026 17:39:03 GMT

As of early October 2026, Bitcoin is trading in the mid-$80,000s to high-$80,000s range, roughly 30% below its all-time high near $126,000 set in October 2025. After a prolonged period of consolidation and a sharp drawdown that took prices as low as the high $50,000s in mid-2026, a clear shift has taken place. Multiple technical, on-chain, and market structure signals now indicate that Bitcoin has exited the bear phase and re-entered a new bull cycle.

The evidence is accumulating across independent frameworks that have reliably marked prior cycle transitions.

Key Technical Confirmations

Bitcoin has reclaimed its 365-day moving average (around the $80,500 level), a crossover that historically has signaled the start of sustained bull markets. This was the first such reclaim since early 2023. The asset has also produced its first higher high since the 2025 peak, breaking above prior resistance near $82,800–$83,000 and holding weekly closes above the 50-week moving average.

Weekly RSI has shifted into a clear uptrend of higher highs and higher lows, while broader cycle indicators from on-chain analytics firms have moved from “bear” into “early bull” and then full “bull” territory. CryptoQuant’s Bull Score has remained elevated (recently in the 80–90 range), and its Bull-Bear Market Cycle Indicator has confirmed the phase change.

These are not isolated bounces. They form a coherent picture of trend reversal after the post-2025 correction.

On-Chain and Structural Support

Long-term holder behavior has improved. Profit-taking has occurred, as expected in a young bull market, but demand has returned sufficiently to absorb it without breaking the higher-low structure established from the June lows. Realized metrics and MVRV-related signals that previously pointed to undervaluation have begun to normalize in a bullish direction.

Institutional participation continues to provide a structural floor that was less present in earlier cycles. Spot Bitcoin ETFs, corporate treasury holdings, and growing recognition of Bitcoin as a macro asset (a hedge against currency debasement amid elevated sovereign debt) have reduced the depth of drawdowns compared with prior bears. The 2025–2026 correction peaked at roughly 50–55% from the high—noticeably shallower than the 75–85% declines of previous cycles. This compression of volatility is consistent with a maturing asset class entering a new expansion phase rather than a traditional deep “crypto winter.”

Historical Cycle Context and the Path Forward

Bitcoin’s four-year rhythm, loosely tied to halvings, has delivered a peak roughly 18 months after the April 2024 event—right on historical schedule. What followed was a milder bear market. With the technical and on-chain confirmation now in place, the market appears to have completed the bottoming process and transitioned into the early stages of the next bull leg.

Analysts tracking these signals, including voices from Bitwise and CryptoQuant, have described the current environment as the start of what could become a strong and relatively extended advance, even if the multiple from the cycle low ends up more moderate (in the 3–5x range) than the explosive runs of the 2010s. From the mid-2026 lows near $58,000, prices have already advanced substantially; sustained acceptance above the mid-$80,000s opens the door toward prior highs and beyond.

Risks remain. Macro conditions, interest-rate policy, and broader risk-asset sentiment can still produce sharp pullbacks. A decisive weekly close back below key supports (such as the former breakout zone near $82,000–$83,000) would challenge the immediate bull thesis. Yet the burden of proof has shifted: the weight of the evidence now favors continuation of the upward cycle rather than a return to prolonged decline.

Bitcoin has done what it has done after every major correction in its history—it has bottomed, rebuilt a base, reclaimed critical long-term averages, and begun trending higher. The data shows the bull cycle is back. For those positioned for the long term, the current environment represents the early innings of the next expansion.

My Diary For Week 40

achimmertens — Fri, 02 Oct 2026 11:01:06 GMT

Hallo zusammen (english see below),

hier ist meine:

Wochenzusammenfassung 25.09. – 01.10.2026

Freitag, 25.09.:

Abreise vom Campingplatz E Gradelle (Korsika).

Bild	Beschreibung

Friday, Sept 25:

Departure from Camping E Gradelle (Corsica). I took down the tent early—before it got really hot—had a shower, and set off.
Drive to Ajaccio. The port wasn't immediately easy to find. An attendant launched into a long spiel about the fact that I don't speak French—in French. Annette understood it.
Additional search before the ferry. I was flagged down just before the ferry and subjected to an extra search. I had to put my pocketknife in the trunk.
Ferry to Toulon. The Corsica vacation was coming to an end—crossing towards Toulon.
Chat topic: I asked the agent to add several diary entries and photos (heart-shaped rock in Corsica, goats on the road, ferry search—see photos below) and to apply the name correction "E Gradelle" throughout the wiki.

Image	Description
Goats on the road in Corsica 🐐
A little token from Corsica – a farewell gift 🥰

Official Announcement of Our 'We Are Alive Tribe' and 'MMB (Maximum Mutual Benefit) Project' Witness Node, @aliveandmmb! - Saturday, November 29, 2025

aliveandmmb — Sat, 29 Nov 2025 20:33:03 GMT

Warm greetings all! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

I'm very happy to announce that our new collaboratively shared witness node, between the We Are Alive Tribe and the MMB (Maximum Mutual Benefit) Project, is now alive! Although I've been mentioning our new witness in my daily posts over the last couple of days, this is our official witness-announcement post. I've been wanting to get a 'We Are Alive Tribe' witness node up and running for quite a while now, and while we've discussed it, and it's been on our to-do list, the idea sat on the shelf for most of this past year, until Bjorn (@borniet), our bodaciously badass backend coding-and-hosting maestro, surprised us with the news our new, up-and-running witness node a few days ago.

A collaboratively shared witness between the 'We Are Alive Tribe', and Bjorn's and my MMB Project, is a natural development given that they are both perfectly aligned in purpose, and because he and I are both a part of the 'We Are Alive Tribe' Core-Leadership Circle. Both exist to support, and to help everyone involved, to grow and thrive, by creating and building systems of abundance that benefit us all over time.

Since this witness is a joint venture, and we don't want to waste useful HP during powerdown periods, our present plan is to keep all the HP on the account, and to delegate it using a 50/20/20/10 ratio, where 50% would go to 'We Are Alive Tribe' accounts (to give ya'll stronger upvotes, and to continue building the 'We Are Alive Tribe' financial infrastructure), 20% would be delegated to 'MMB Project' accounts (to flesh out some of the cool ideas that we've discussed), 20% would be delegated to accounts of Bjorn's choice (to compensate him for hosting and maintaining our witness node), and 10% would be left undelegated on @aliveandmmb, so that it will be useful in our curation trail.

Although we'd love to be able to set the APR for HBD at 20%, or even at 15%, given the present level of Hive Debt and HIVE inflation, for the moment I've set the APR for HBD at 12%, which seems to be the sweet spot, or at least not as bitter, between what it is now and the 6% that is being suggested. I'll adjust it over time, keeping it as high as possible, while also doing my best to make responsible decisions.

The We Are Alive Tribe and the MMB Project are here to create and build a community, and a system of abundance, that is good for all of us, and that helps us all to grow, succeed, and thrive, and the higher that our witness is able go go in the ranking, the more abundantly we'll be able to share and give back to you, our deeply-valued and loyal community.

Vote for our @aliveandmmb Witness Node!

We Are Alive Tribe

The We Are Alive Tribe is a tribe on Hive with our ALIVE and ALIVEM tokens on Hive-engine, and our tribe interface at, https://www.wearealiveand.social/.

We have had a big tribe guide for quite some time, but as it is big it is also hard to update and maintain, so therefore we will use this post as a PeakD Collection for smaller guides, most of which is yet to be written, so do expect updates and additions to this collection as time goes.
