Dear Hive Community❗
Time flies. I barely noticed September slipping by: its first weeks went into preparing for HiveFest and the European Blockchain Convention, and the rest into taking a very active part in both events.

EBC

At EBC we met many fascinating people, and most of them were genuinely interested in the technology the Hive platform offers. One of the most popular topics was the optimizations we have made to the hived node in recent years. These let our blockchain run on truly low-budget hardware, so we could present Hive and its whole technology stack as environmentally friendly and economical to maintain. That is not the platform's only strength, of course. Near-instant block finality and zero transaction fees make it an ideal environment for real-world applications.

Below are a few photos from our booth:

![booth-1.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmcLCj3A5Pu9eskPFZZT2HAEdRvv5NsctoQQfHLtjY6N51/booth-1.png)
![20260916_100604-1.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmYYApk9aHW3RYot1bBF1ceHVspHq81nmKt7R9AAEDRaz3/20260916_100604-1.png)

HiveFest

After several intense days at EBC, it was time for this year's HiveFest. It was a real pleasure to meet everyone again and present the results of our work since last autumn, along with our plans for the near future.

Last year we carried out a series of optimizations, and some of them, mainly around HAF and applications, are still ongoing. I hope they will lead to a new release of the entire application stack that powers our platform.

The main goal of these changes was to optimize testing and the application build process, so that AI-assisted development can iterate faster. Faster data synchronization matters a lot too, because it allows quicker testing against data from the production servers behind https://api.hive.blog.

You can find the details in the video linked below, presented by @itsola representing @thebeedevs and @howo: Ola & Howo talk

Using AI extensively to support developers is extremely valuable and radically changes what is within our reach. Work that once had to be planned over months can now be done in a few weeks.

Unfortunately, it doesn't bring only benefits. AI coding agents create a number of challenges for the team responsible for application stability and quality, especially for the hived code that handles L1 operations.

A crucial task today is to preserve the core ideas and architecture and to keep control over changes to the codebase. That control prevents the codebase from degrading through duplicated (copy-pasted) code or needlessly complex solutions. As a result, the maintainer team's job is actually much harder now. The sheer speed at which AI models produce code makes it harder still, and that speed doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with quality. Naturally, we are also bringing AI models into this review work, to prepare and automate the process up front.

Other important topics we covered during our talks on September 18, 2026, at AkashaHub concerned our plans for the future, mainly for L1.

Bringing Resource Credits control into Hive's consensus rules raises several new problems to solve:

a unified representation of the custom_json containing rc_delegation and of the newly added, fully fledged L1 operation
rc_delegation

mechanisms to detect divergences in node state (so-called state stamping). This feature could also be used for certain virtual operations that change critical L1 parameters, such as account balances. A good example is recurrent_transfer. Exchanges don't support it for exactly this reason: only the initial transfer is included in a transaction. The problem is broader, and I believe it deserves a separate article.

Beyond that, we believe we should consider extending how authority is represented in Hive. One of the proposals in the MetaIssue is to extend the authority implementation with a script engine (as known from Bitcoin). This would make it possible to tie authorities to specific L1 or even L2 operations. For example, operations related to community management or follows could have their own authority levels. It would also allow custom_json to be combined with custom authority levels.

Another operation we would like to introduce is custom_binary. It would ultimately limit the size of custom_json on the blockchain itself and store operation data more efficiently.

I encourage you to join the discussion on the shape of L1 and on what the already partially defined HardFork 29 should bring.

I had a great time, although with a very few amount of people. This made the event a bit more cozy, more fluid as there was not that many people and we were able to communicate with basically on a single chair in a restaurant.

This might be the dog days of hive but hopefully not the last ones. The event was able to show what Hive could be and what Hive is missing as well in this new era of AI. AI by the way was one of the most present topics in the 101 ones that we had on all aspects of the event.

It was funny and a bit ironic that I was on a AI event before hifest and there is an upcoming AI event after hifest here in Barcelona. Hivefest was full of the talks of what can AI do for Hive and also what Hive. The agent fever have many developers talking about the future of art, music, posts, "soul", and philosophical nature of purpose.

But let's back down to the beginning the first day after the dinner and opening drinks that we had about high fest. It started early in the morning. Roland was able to put a really good show for the rest of us in a industrial but inspiring coworking space.

The conversation of the presentations where were mostly about Hive future. As far as a, what web 3 still has to offer and how can we may Hive more accessible to the rest of the world. On the next year, also with the funds of the DHS, marketing, and other source of money that were missed on the building of the next Hivefest.

The next talk was also about development but it was more of the core development of the blockchain. They talk about how the way the blockchain could be sped out by using some of the new implementations such as changing processes from python to the native SQL language.

Another topic was the common use of AI right now is becoming more about generating unit test and how much time is being spent on testing rather than writing the code. This has made the day-to-day work of development. Just change dramatically, although there are good side in the sense that ideas get coded instantly. The challenges are to have those ideas integrated into the core code of the chain in a secure fashion.

The next dog was given by Hive work bees which was a group from Poland and share a presentation they did previously at the Blockchain European Conference. They were able to promote a workshop on HAF and libraries like wax as well as PHP and Typescript code for integration with WordPress and WooComnerce into the HivePay application.

After the event there were some brakeout networking session which lasted a good amount of time. I was able to strike conversations with the rest of the Hiveans as well as guests that were lured as the chain culture event was cancelled but still people with interest on that came to Hivefest.

Day two of the event was on the Social Club, a building full of venues including a quite modern Co-working space. Fully equipped with different type of desks and workstations, private meeting rooms and mini auditorium.

We were able to have a workshop on HAF nodes optimization as it was showcased how events could be generated from small IoT devices like a ESP32 board and also a Raspberry Pi. There were also talk about an agentization of Hive and use on AI platforms such as N8N.

However being Barcelona, a very diverse but also teach savvy city. There is always something to do here. Specially for people like me, with particular taste, and ideas on having a good time.

One thing that I was able to find many different events going on in the city. All of them that I really want to take part on. So the question was more about where would I want to be going tonight. Much rather than if there was anything good. So one thing that I really decided, the AI summit is an event that is going to take place after Hivefest. However there was an expat community throwing a warm up party before the event.

At the same time there was a Python event which also had an interesting spin around AI. Unfortunately for me, the attendance was all locked out and I decided this one was more open and able to talk about different tech like Blockchain. Here is were my hive angle played through.

I enjoyed different conversations and questions from people that either knew a small bit about Blockchain or none. They were surprised about the idea of give and how important it was to escape the mainstream social network platforms and be able to own digital information without having to constantly be paying for it. Like a hosting space or a domain.

There was also other discussions about the future of online business with crypto and agents. To have agents take over your buying and selling of goods and services outside of the banks and state regulations. Be able to do free online business on the net without requiring a bank and also finance our offline life in the process. My guess is that agents can sort out those complexities and start using the tech as an interface to interact with the offline world.

All interest ideas that might draw a future and requirements of what we need to live on the near future.

I've been looking forward to Hivefest and I am thinking about getting new shoes as I would be walking a lot and would love to have new shoes on them. Also go to the spa for a good feet massage as I might end up with my legs all stiff. I might get one in BCN as well. At the end of the day, I really love walking even if it's trying. Places like Tokyo and New York, you walk a lot and walk everywhere. So I am actually used to walk a lot, however I haven't walk a lot here in Latin America because of the streets being all over heels and is sometime useless to walk all the way while uber is just easier and more efficient.

I went to the mall and saw a shoe I might get, I was about to get it, but at the last second I decided not to, but I think I made a mistake and I should have. They had a discount and could get it for 100 bucks, which is quite affordable compared to the 200 bucks that other shoes might be.

I still need to get a hotel accommodation as I would also need to get one that can be easy to move across the city to travel to the city center. This will allow me to access to more affordable hotels that might not be in the city center. I hope the AI can help me get the best ones around. But I need to do that asap as we are getting closer to the date. At first I was thinking on staying in Badalona, a town close to Barcelona, but I might not need to do all that as there seem to be some good ones just a metro station away. It will also allow me to get into a cab if I come pretty late from a party or bar.

Finally I ordered some special clothes for the event, I hope it will get on time. As far as I have seen the package got into the out-route to Miami but it hasn't been logged which means I might not get it on time unfortunately.

I also have a second flight after Hivefest and I am still looking for the best route to get there as it seems I might need to go from the airport to the bus station to get to my final destination in central Europe. So I would need to plan my days up to the hour so everything can go smooth, fortunately AI can help me get the details sort out and maybe some youtube tutorials on where to move withing the city.

So this is my update on Hivefest hope more events show up withing the festival as I would really like to have a good time in Barcelona, although I would appreciate if they don't make me walk as much. LOL

Primarily allocation, Barcelona is a very pricey city and the cost of hotels are sky high, even with good anticipation, looking for prices are around 150-200 euros a night. Also many people warn NOT to get an AirBNB as the Spanish government has crack down on this and many are not as good as advertised. So now we have several issues, but I am not giving up. I have an idea that might work but will need a lot of caution. First I need to find a place in a town close to Barcelona and leverage on the train to get me there on time before the event starts.

So I will try to look into a town called Badalona, is only 22 minutes away from Barcelona and if I am careful I can play my cards right and have a good accommodations and not have to spend that much time getting there. Fortunately I am living in 2026 and we have the power of AI so most of my questions would be answer close enough to AI as possible. From the train schedule to the peak time and how to pay for the tickets or if I need to get some sort of transit card.

I was able to find the subway station and the train schedule thanks to AI and also was able to look for other hotels that might have different price points. It seems that thanks to Maps I was able to find way more options than on Booking or asking for Google for them.

With Gemini Gems I was able to create a constant AI instruction to keep looking for things related to my destinations and best accommodations on the cities and surroundings. I would try to add some tips later during my trip, but for preparations I can get some basic ones running like spot offers and things to improve my mobility in the city. Get ready a scooter rental or something that could get me within the city.

I am not the biggest AI expert that know how to squeeze the last drop of info on Gemini or any other engine, but I know how to use Youtube. And I was able to find this video to really customize my travel trip and the logistics at the city. Using 'My Maps' could be quite an interest experience and a portable intelligence to really break into the city with premeditated information, prices and such.

Three weeks from today the first of us land in Barcelona for HiveFest XI, the Swarm edition, 17 to 20 September. Self-organized, community-run, no single organizer holding the pen. Which raises the obvious question: if nobody is handing down a schedule, where does the program come from?

From you. This year is about participation instead of just consuming.

So here is the thing "I" have been building.

The program tool: an unconference, fully on Hive

hivefe.st/program.html is the official planning tool for the In-Person BCN Swarm weekend, and it is decentralized by design. There is no database, no backend, no login I control. It runs entirely on Hive's own storage: every proposal is a Hive article or comment, every RSVP and every vote is a signed action under a track's anchor post, all carrying a bit of custom metadata so the page can read the program straight back off the chain.

You sign in with your own account, three ways: Hive Keychain (desktop extension), the Keychain mobile app via HiveAuth (for iOS and Android browsers - debugging somewhat...), or HiveSigner. Your keys never touch the site. When you propose something or RSVP, the tool broadcasts a comment under the right anchor post, signed by you, public, and editable later. A ♥ is your vote. That is the whole machine, and it is the same machine Hive already is.

What you can do in it right now: Please do it:

RSVP per day and per part, so we get real headcounts instead of guesses.

Propose a talk for the main day.

Host a workshop or roundtable and put it on the board.

Pitch a Barcelona exploration, a tour, a trip, a walk, whatever you want to share.

♥ the things you like, which is how the good ideas rise and how a schedule builds itself.

One house rule that makes it all work: when you propose your talk, workshop or activity, through the program tool it would be great to also write it up in your own Hive blog post and link back to hivefe.st/program.html. Tell people why they should join you, then point them at the programtool so they can RSVP and vote. Your post is the pitch, the tool is the room.

Where each day stands, and what it needs from you

Thursday 17, opening drinks.
Wide open, and it needs a leader. Who takes this one? Scout a bar, somewhere we can spill into and actually hear each other, drop it into the tool and let the hearts pick the winner. Do a little research, propose a spot, and you are the person who kicked off the weekend.

Friday 18, the main conference day.
I have a reservation at Akasha Hub for this. It costs money, I am fronting the booking, and I hope we can recoup it together and transparently over the weekend. This is the day to get our heads together and push Hive forward. Send in your talks through the program tool and we will shape the schedule together from what comes in. And if someone is up for livestreaming the whole day, that would be great, claim it.

Saturday 19, morning.
After breakfast there is open space for the deeper stuff: in-depth discussions, workshops, roundtables, the sessions that need a bit of room to breathe. Propose yours and gather your people.

Saturday 19 afternoon and Sunday 20, daytime.
This is Barcelona, so let's use it. Come up with your tourist plans and find friends to join: Sagrada Familia and Gaudi wanders, the beach, a cava day out to the Codorniu caves, whatever pulls you. Post it, link it, find your crew.
The 20th also carries the closing dinner and closing drinks, so we send the weekend off properly, but let's see how that goes along the event itself.

For the techies: how it actually works

No backend, no database, no server I run. The whole tool is a thin static page sitting on top of Hive itself.

CONF3RENCE 2026 in Dortmund, Germany - Free Entry / Opportunity for a HIVE-Fest XI Swarm

Today I received a newsletter from the Conf3rence event—an event where HIVE was represented last year with an exhibition booth and a keynote speaker. Last year, the two-day event took place at the Westfalen Stadium in Dortmund. It was a wonderful event with many great partners and exhibitors.

Impressions from last year in Dortmund

The Newsletter (Text from E-Mail)

CONF3RENCE 2026 is now free for everyone

Hey,
We're changing how CONF3RENCE 2026 works, and the short version is this: admission is free for everyone, on both days.

What's happening

CONF3RENCE takes place on 15 and 16 September at Kokerei Hansa in Dortmund. This year it runs inside the Festival of Arts, Tech & Taste — same site, same days, with a culinary programme, installations, a Ferris wheel and live formats across the grounds.

That co-location is what drove the decision. A fenced-off, ticketed area in the middle of an open festival campus would have worked neither operationally nor editorially.

What changes
There are no paid tickets any more, and no VIP or premium tier. Every visitor has the same access to stages, programme and site. If you already bought a ticket, it has been refunded in full — and your place is secure, with nothing further needed from you.

What doesn't change
The programme. We start at midday on 15 September with substantive discussions featuring speakers from Microsoft, Google Cloud, PwC, Deloitte, Union Investment, Chainlink and many more. The evening leads into the Opening Night. 16 September is a full day of hands-on demos, product onboarding, community programming and live activations.

Two days, two programmes, one open campus!

What you need to do
Register at www.conf3rence.com. Free admission still requires a ticket, because capacity on site is capped and registration is now open to the public. If you're planning to bring colleagues or your community, register them early while places are available.

Don't forget to follow us on social media for the latest updates!

Warm Regards,
Team CONF3RENCE

Ticket: 0€

HiveFest XI - Swarm Edition

Swarm Edition - Read more here: https://peakd.com/hive-106258/@roelandp/hivefest-xi-goes-swarm-self-organized-one-weekend-bcn-lets-do-this

HiveFest 2026 will take place in Barcelona—but without funding from the DHF—and each person is on their own. That’s why the Swarm Editions idea came about—groups that meet up in one place and organize things on their own. That means the event in Dortmund will take place on September 15 and 16, and HiveFest on September 17, 18, 19, and 20. That’s six days in a row—okay, I’ll admit, a six-day event in Dortmund doesn’t sound particularly appealing—but if some Hive users are interested in attending this year’s Conf3rence in Dortmund, maybe they could tack on a day or two afterward with various activities. Just throwing that out there for a brainstorming session.

Interested? Any other ideas? Feel free to share them in the comments.

We’ve been navigating the crevasses of the market, but now it’s time to look up and ahead. For its eleventh edition, HiveFest returns to European soil, landing in the city of architects, dreamers, and revolutionaries.

Get ready for HiveFest XI: 17 – 20 September 2026 in Barcelona!

🏙️ From Gaudi’s Masterworks to the Mediterranean Shore

Barcelona isn't just a city; it’s an architectural masterpiece. From the mind-bending spires of Gaudí’s Sagrada Família to the winding streets of the Gothic Quarter, inspiration is baked into the very stones of the city.

And yes, we heard you: there is a beach included. Expect mid-September temperatures to be that perfect Mediterranean sweet spot—warm enough for a rooftop drink or a dip in the sea, but cool enough to actually get some "architecting of decentralization" done.

⛓️ The Grand Scheme: HiveFest x ChainCulture

As beta-tested last year, again implementing the shaken up format. This year, we are officially merging the HiveFest experience with a dedicated ChainCulture day. A trojan horse to promote Hive across chains, broaden the family of Hivians!

While Hive(Fest) remains our home base, ChainCulture opens the doors to builders and thinkers from the broader Web3 ecosystem. It’s about cross-chain connections, inflecting new collaborations, and proving that while we love our chain, we are all here to chainge the world. Ofcourse HiveFest itself sticks to the 4-5 days of activities beyond the conference track. Socializers, parties and city exploring with fellow Hive friends and a Hive dedicated workshops and roundtable program too.

🗓️ The Itinerary

The town will already be buzzing. On September 16-17, the European Blockchain Convention takes place in the large halls south of the city, bringing the global financial ecosystem to town to get their bite of the digital money flowing through chains nowadays. We’re picking up that momentum and carrying it into the weekend:

Thursday, 17 Sept: Arrival & Opening Drinks. Reconnect with the Hivers you haven't seen in a year!

Friday, 18 Sept: The Big Conference Day. Featuring two parallel tracks: ChainCulture (cross-chain/external) and a Hive-dedicated track.

Saturday, 19 Sept: In-depth Hive sessions, hands-on workshops, and a free night to explore the vibrant Catalan nightlife.

Sunday, 20 Sept: City sightseeing (get your cameras ready for those Gaudi vibes) and the traditional Closing Dinner.

🛠️ Start planning!

This is the plan, now it’s time to make yours. Whether you’re coming for the tech, the community, or the tapas... Barcelona is waiting.

Coming soon: Official partner hotels, venue announcements, and ticket details.

HiveFest XI. Visca Hive! Visit HiveFe.st
