Back in school, my friends and I used to plan birthday surprises and Valentine packages for people just for fun. We help people plan surprises, they give us money and we get the things needed to execute the job any balance that remains becomes ours. At some point we said, "Wait o, why are we doing this for free?" So we decided to make it official. We took trainings on event planning, put structure to it, and launched our brand; D’Pearls Event Hub aka DPEH and we officially turned three years. We are four friends, we majored in different areas of event planning and I became the Project Manager and Vendors Coordinator. Since then we've been planning weddings. But you know how businesses can be at the early stage; we planned events for acquaintances in the early stage, some were voluntary services.

Last weekend, we planned an event for someone that found us on instagram without any form of referral or stuff like that. It meant a lot to us because it was evidence that we’re seen, people go through our page even if we’re not doing much numbers in terms of followership but we kept posting till we landed our first job from instagram. No personal connection, just trust from social media and this means the pressure was doubled. Because we didn’t want our client to say “had I known” lol. So we put in extra work like we’ve never done before. Not because in the past we offered mediocre service but because we’ve learnt from our previous mistakes and we want to make a very good impression to our first time client. At least, with the kind of vendors we used, we believe we will gain more visibility afterwards.

Picture of my Teammates reporting live at the event ❤️

After intensive planning for a month, The wedding happened yesterday in Portharcourt, Nigeria. Plot twist: I'm in Asaba and due to my work and the distance, I wasn't physically there so I coordinated the vendors remotely. Although, my colleagues were on ground live, and I was online coordinating everything — vendors check-in, call times, ushers deployment, giving feedback in real-time from my phone.

We offered our ushering services too. Our ushers showed up well-dressed, sharp, professional.

A picture of the event center showcasing the beautiful decoration 😍

stickers of the event’s hashtag ❤️

Was everything 100% as planned? This is Nigerian wedding o. Chaos must show small. But it ran smoothly overall. Vendors came on time, program flowed, and most importantly our clients were happy 💃
Initially, I was so skeptical about not being present but I said let me imagine I wasn’t in the country lol. And boy! I’m glad I didn’t stress over being physically present because without me there, my team did so well. Coordinating remotely also taught me something; you don't always have to be physically present to lead effectively, if you have a solid team and clear communication.
I'm proud of us. From planning surprises in school to coordinating full weddings for strangers. Growth is beautiful I must say.

Thanks for reading to the end and just incase you need an event coordinator or planner, remember to reach out to me 🥰🤗

PS. All images are mine.

I’ve been thinking about this phrase all week. In a world that’s constantly telling us how to look, what to wear, and how we should show up, it’s easy to forget where beauty actually starts. For me, the answer is simple: it starts with me.
I look good for me first. If an outfit doesn’t make me feel comfortable in my own skin, I’m not wearing it no matter how trendy it is. If an accessory feels heavy, itchy, or "too much," it’s coming off. If a beauty product doesn’t make me feel confident when I look in the mirror, I’m not repurchasing it. That has become my rule. Because I’ve learned the hard way that trying to dress for other people is exhausting 😭

I remember days I wore straight-cut gowns I couldn’t walk in just because "it looked classy." Days I wore makeup that wasn’t me just to fit in at an event. And you know what? I spent the whole day adjusting, hiding, and feeling self-conscious. I wasn’t present, I wasn’t happy, and honestly, I didn’t cope well with anything that day. But the days I wear what I love? The days my outfit feels like me, my hair feels good, and I catch myself smiling in the mirror? Those are the days I walk into rooms with my shoulders back. Those are the days I handle stress better, speak up more, and actually enjoy life.

So for me, outer approval is secondary. Don’t get me wrong. it feels nice when people compliment you. When someone says "You look good today" or "I love that dress on you," it’s a sweet bonus. Being seen in a positive light does open doors. It helps in business, in community, in everyday interactions. But I’ve decided that can’t be the main reason. I just believe that the way I carry myself in an outfit also contributes to how people see me in any fashion piece.

If I’m only dressing to impress others, then my mood, my confidence, and my peace will always depend on their reaction. And I can’t control that. Some days people will notice. Some days they won’t. Some people will like it. Some won’t. But I have to live with me 24/7. So I’d rather wake up and like the person looking back at me.

Inner beauty is how I cope. "Beauty comes from within us" is not just a pretty quote for me. It’s a coping tool.
On overwhelming days; deadlines, traffic, family responsibilities, the one thing I can control is how I treat myself. Drinking water, resting, wearing something that makes me feel soft and put-together. That small act tells my brain: "You matter, you’re worth the care." When I feel good inside, it shows outside. And when I feel good outside, I have more energy to give to the people and work I love. It’s a cycle.

So my definition of beauty is not about perfection. It’s about alignment.
Does this reflect how I feel inside? Does this make me comfortable? Does this help me show up as my best self today?
If the answer is yes, then I’m wearing it. With or without an audience.

To the ladies reading this; We’re allowed to want both. We can want to feel good for ourselves and enjoy being seen.
But let’s start with "us." Let’s build from within. Because when beauty begins with us, we stop chasing validation. We start creating peace. And that’s what helps us cope well with everyday life.

Thanks for reading my blog today 💕

And thanks to @cautiva-30 for this prompt. Loved writing this after a very long time of not writing here. ❤️

My POP Day 😍

NYSC scattered us. I went to Benue, Michelle was in Akwa Ibom, Sophia finished service a year ago, Tosin served in Bayelsa. Well, we intentionally wanted to explore other parts of the country but mhen, my own was so so shocking. Imagine a Southerner in the North 😭 everything felt backwards but thank God I adapted. For almost a year, our group chat was home. We shared PPA stress, allowance gist, our new friends, and random "are you okay" at 2am 😂🤭 We were in different corners of Nigeria but living the same struggles.

My girls 😍

Then PH happened.
The first hug felt like a year of waiting exhaling at once. The jokes hit harder, the food tasted like memories. We stayed up late like nothing changed, even though we all had; we talked about everything possible 🥳 we didn’t bother going out. It was our lock-in week and trust me it was worth it. Someone said, "It’s like we just paused life and pressed play." That line stayed with me because at the time, it was our reality 😅

One year apart taught me this: real friendship doesn’t expire, distance stretches it, but it doesn’t break it. Sometimes God scatters you just to show you who will run back to you. And I’m glad we ran back to each other 🥳

Now I’m back home in Delta, with family and a new baby in the house 👀 don’t worry I’ll tell you about my babysitting schedule, baby is crying 😂😭 until then, byeeee 🤗

Thank you for reading ❤️

So this week’s prompt asked:

Are you a fashion enthusiast? Do you follow trends, or do you simply wear what you like and what makes you feel comfortable?

For me? I love fashion. I really do. I’ll scroll, I’ll admire, I’ll know exactly what’s trending this season. But when it comes to my own closet… I run 👀 I used to imagine the stress of planning the “perfect” outfit; matching everything, trying to make it work, only for it to not fit my body type at the end. That alone discouraged me. So I made a rule for myself: Simple, but stunning.

I’m all about everyday pieces that feel like a hug. Clothes that let me breathe, move, and live my day without tugging or adjusting every two seconds. But here’s the thing, simple doesn’t mean boring. I want people to look at me and think “Wow, that’s simple but it looks so, so good on her.” That’s the goal. Comfortable clothes with a quiet kind of fashion sense that people notice and acknowledge. It’s the same with makeup and jewelry too. No heavy layers, no drama. Just clean, simple looks that still say “I put effort in.”

So yes, I know the trends. I see them. I appreciate them. But when I’m dressing myself, I pick the most basic, comfortable pieces and let them speak. Because at the end of the day, fashion should make you feel good first.

Thank you for reading and I believe people like me in terms of fashion are here and read through 😅🤭

And to @marivic10 thanks for this prompt 💕

A lot of men always “complain” that mothers get multiple Mother’s Day celebrations, especially in Nigeria. And I can’t help but laugh, because they’re not far from the truth. Everything about celebrating men is usually swept under the carpet. It’s done quietly.

Meta

I used to be one of those people. I didn’t celebrate Father’s Day the way I celebrated Mother’s Day. Then thank God for my mum. She made sure we celebrated my dad. I remember she’d give us money to buy chocolates or anything for my dad during Father’s Day and I’m glad she imbibed that culture in us. I was stubborn initially because I wasn’t close to my dad. But you dare not be stubborn close to my mum, she will bend you 😭😂 she also made sure we called my dad when we were in the university. She didn’t want us to only call when we needed money or any form of assistance. It was a chore then because my dad and I didn’t have a good relationship.
But now, everything has changed. I check up on my dad regularly. I buy him gifts randomly, no matter how small. And I’ve noticed how much he appreciates those little moments.

Sometimes many of us pay little attention to our dads. We don’t applaud them often. Why? Because we feel they’re just playing their roles lol. But let me say this: let’s celebrate our dads. Not only on Father’s Day. Do something nice for them randomly if you can. And not just them, but every father figure ik your life. They deserve to be celebrated, regardless of anything.

This is the part I’m supposed to post a picture with my dad but I don’t have any with him 🥲 I was always shy about taking pictures with my dad as a child. And now that I’m no longer a baby 🌚 I still don’t have any picture with him because I’m always the one capturing all the good moments at home. Always behind the camera 😑 it’s a flex at home but now I wish I have a picture 😩

Meta

Yesterday was Father’s Day, but thank God we’re still in June. So I’m celebrating my dad, and every father here. I’m celebrating your quiet strength, your presence, corrections, your protection, your care, love, and kindness. I’m sending plenty hugs to you. I pray you enjoy fatherhood to the fullest, your children, and all those who look up to you and those you care for, will always make you proud. God bless you! 🤗💙

Happy Father’s Day 💙

I know I’m not perfect but, for every life I’ve met even if the friendship didn’t end well you cannot say I wasn’t a good person at some point, or that I wasn’t impactful while I was in your life. I use my birthday as a means of thanksgiving to God specially. When I think of the story surrounding my birth, I just say “against all odds, I am worth it!” I’m always grateful to God on that day, and I celebrate no matter how little.

Image is mine.

Growing up, my birthdays were always in school — nursery, primary school, all celebrated with classmates. Then in secondary school, my birthday fell during midterm break, so I’d celebrate at home. Not big parties, but something special no matter how small, my mum made sure of that. I remember celebrating my 10th and 15th birthday. Had my friends from church and school come around and it was big 🤭
In university, for my 18th and 20th birthdays, my friends surprised me with gifts and a mini celebration. It was really, really fun. I loved being loved on that day. I love how people are thoughtful, even some people I didn’t think would remember actually remembered and they celebrate with me. These things make me love my birthday.
Now adulthood is here, and birthdays feel like normal days. But I still feel the nudge to be grateful to God, to get myself a gift, no matter how small. Since after uni, since after my 20th birthday, I stopped doing big things. I stay indoors, but I make sure I buy gifts for myself with the cash gift people give me on my birthday. That way it’s significant. That money becomes a memory 🥰

For people’s birthdays, I go all out. I’ve promised a lot of people gifts, and even if money doesn’t come, I still show up. No matter how little. I love celebrating others because if the tables were reversed, I’d want to be celebrated too.
Same energy for theirs as I give for mine especially for family and close friends.

For my next birthday, I want to gift myself all through my birth month; February 😂🤭 then on the weekend of my birthday, I’ll do a weekend getaway with my girls 😍 and have fun intentionally. I also do not want to work on my birthday next year because I worked this year and wasn’t happy 😭 One other thing that I’d love to do even if it’s not next year is to get an animated documentary about myself. And on one of my birthdays, I’ll play it with friends and family watching like a movie bought kinda thing 😂❤️ don’t worry, my life isn’t boring so they’ll be in for a treat 🥰

Thank you to @irenenavarroart for this prompt. This is one prompt I wrote and smiled and giggled while at it. I remembered my previous birthdays, i imagined my next birthday and there’s this joy within 😁

This makes more sense because I think we’re in one of my least favorite season. I can’t help but jump on this hehehe.
Right now in Nigeria, we’re deep in wet season AKA rainy season. And honestly I don’t really have a favorite thing about it. Just one good thing.

The one thing I like: The weather is kind to your skin, no harsh sun, no burning heat, no sunburn on your skin. The air is cool, so your skincare actually works for those that take skincare serious tho 😅 During dry season you’re battling heat and applying layers of sunscreen. But in rainy season? You can breathe, your face isn’t melting. That’s the win i see in this season. Although, I’m not a farmer but I believe the rains helps some crops grow very well and relieves the farmers from always watering their plants. And that’s a win too. 😊

The downside is that rain has no mercy if it catches you outside, that’s it. Your outfit, your hair, your plans, all ruined. And when rain becomes too much, it’s disaster! Flooding, traffic, people losing homes. You have to check weather forecasts like it’s a full-time job just to plan your day. My mum is a health practitioner and I know the amount of people visits the clinic during the rainy season because of the weather and the heavy downpour, immune systems becomes weak due to the weather change. There’s high rise in cold, pneumonia and even cough. I just believe the disadvantages outweigh the advantage in my POV.
While the rain helps some crops grow well, it also destroys some other. During this season some food items becomes very expensive.

Image generated by meta.

But my real favorite? Harmattan season
Forget rainy season. Give me Harmattan every time. It’s the perfect combo; dry and cold. Not the harsh heat of dry season, not the messy floods of rainy season just cool, dry air. During harmattan, laundry dries in at least thirty minutes. In boarding school we say “wash in the morning, wear in the afternoon” 😂🤭 Plants stay happy, morning dew keeps everything moisturized. The weather just feels right; cozy sweaters, cold mornings, no sticky heat. Lord knows how much I dislike heat 😩

So yeah, rainy season is not all bad at least it has some advantages.

Thanks to @elizabethbit for this prompt. It came timely and I love I’m able to express myself about this current season.

Thanks for reading 🤗

Been a minute here. Well, to answer the prompt I think I’ll just say how my day went then give a final verdict whether it was boring, stressful, interesting or chaotic lol!

Today started off okay. I woke up, turned on my laptop, checked my mails, the usual routine. Got ready and headed to work. The job? Teaching (atm tho) And let me tell you, teaching is NOT stress-free at all I’m sure you know but I just want to remind you 😩 You’re not just talking you’re managing 30+ humans, making sure nobody’s left behind, and keeping the class quiet. Some students are calm and some? cocky! Some come with a PhD in distraction. 🤦‍♀️ And me? I don’t tolerate noise in my class. So yeah… the morning took energy; lots of it.

After school, I rushed to the market. Got ingredients for dinner because, well, life doesn’t pause. Got home and switched hats immediately. I also work remotely with a gadgets store. And today, our website traffic went crazy. Clients, tasks from my boss all landing at once. I was replying, fixing, sending, updating tirelessly. Then I remembered I still have a teacher’s workload waiting. Set exams, mark assessments from last week and record them. Indeed, teaching doesn’t stop when the bell rings. Honestly? This phase of my life is draining. It’s taking my time, my energy, everything and I can’t wait to be done with it so I can focus fully on my career.

By the time I was done with dinner, I
sat outside, played music, tried to decompress as I was done with work too at the time. Later, I put on an animation on Netflix. Didn’t even finish it I slept off mid-episode. Woke up in the middle of the night, stumbled to turn off the laptop, and tried to sleep again. But my brain said “nope.” So here I am, writing this at midnight instead of sleeping.

Final verdict on today; Stressful.
Not boring, a little bit chaotic and stressful.

But we move. Tomorrow’s another day.
Thank you for reading 💕 and make sure to sleep well 😄🤗

It’s been so overwhelming, and that’s been my reality for two weeks. I’d open Hive, and close it again. Not because I had nothing to say, but because life was saying everything at once. But if I wait till I have the perfect words, I’ll never show up 😑 So here I am; Messy and recovering.

So, where have I been?
My sister, my gist partner, my wardrobe manager 😄 and fight partner got married last week 💃 The weeks leading up were chaos in the best way: Asoebi drama, endless market runs, fittings that never fit, meetings that ran into midnight. I was part planner, part errand girl, part hype woman and content creator 😭 trust me nobody forced me to. I just felt I could do everything. During the pre wedding and market runs, my body gave me signs to rest but I was too stubborn and gave excuses of “I’ll rest after everything” but my body forced me to rest. I fell sick due to stress and the weather didn’t help either. I got better and continued with the preparations.

My sister in her first outfit.

Me 😌

Then the wedding day came and it rained. Not the cute “God is blessing the union” drizzle. I’m talking full Nollywood, thunder and lightning, soak-you-to-the-bone kind of rain 😭 We had two choices: panic or dance. We chose dance. Shoes off, makeup dripping, guests laughing, bride glowing anyway. Although we danced after the rain stopped and was just drizzling. It was the most imperfect perfect day. If you’ve never danced in the rain in your full asoebi, you haven’t lived.

My body waved the white flag again. Right in the middle of all that wedding adrenaline, I crashed. Stress plus cold plus running around equals to Testimony down 🥲 I managed to take some meds but didn’t recover fully before packing my bag to travel back to my state of deployment 😩anyways thank God I’ll be done with the whole NYSC thingy. That trip finished me. Got to my station and it was as if my body was not in the room with me.

The last two weeks has been recovery mode. I’ve been in this weird cycle: sleep, try to be a functioning adult, crash again, antibiotics, hot water, herbal tea and movies 😌 And somewhere in that cycle, I got used to silence. I’d come on Hive, scroll through your posts, vote, smile at the comments. But creating? Replying with my full chest? I couldn’t. My brain felt foggy. Writing felt like lifting a bag of cement.
But I’m better now; not dancing-on-tables better, but I-can-type-this-without-napping better 😅 stronger, clearer, and very ready to rejoin the timeline.

If you’ve ever had to disappear to handle life, you get it. If you’re in that season now, this is me saying: it’s okay to pause. Just don’t forget to come back.

With love and small energy 🤭
Testimony 💕

What popular worldview, quote, or social belief do you think has negatively influenced our society today? How do you protect younger people around you from adopting that mindset, and how do you personally resist the pressure to conform to it?

Image is mine.

The first thing that came to my mind was the conversation I had with my cousin recently “all man for himself”
We’ve all heard it. It’s said like a joke, but underneath, it’s advice. Advice to look out for number one, to stop helping, to stop caring, because nobody else will do it for you except you do it for yourself.
On the surface, it sounds smart. Self-love, independence, protecting your peace and yeah, they matter. But when “all man for himself” becomes the rule you live by, something breaks.
A society where everyone only thinks about themselves isn’t a society. It’s just a crowd of people passing each other. The NGOs don’t run, because the facilitator(s) are thinking of how life can only be better for them, the neighbor whose rent you helped with stays homeless, and so the circle continues. The world gets smaller, colder, and it’s not a coincidence that anxiety and loneliness rise with it.

I’ve seen this mindset take root in younger people around me. They think that helping others is weakness, that kindness is a waste of time. So how do I push back?
First, I show them the difference between self-care and selfishness. Taking care of yourself means you can actually show up for others. Selfishness means you refuse to show up at all.
Second, I practically point to the people who made life better for them; family, teachers, aunties, strangers who paid a fare or even gave directions to them and even their friends or classmates. None of those people were thinking “all man for himself” that day.
Third, I let them help me and their friends or siblings in small ways. As little as helping get something from a nearby store, intentionally making them seek help when they know they can’t finish a task alone, being appreciative of those that helped them no matter how little. I do this with my nephews and nieces thereby making them see that having people is good, showing care is also good and doing life alone without helping or caring for others or even cared for is going to make life a lot more depressing and lonely.

Personally, I resist the pressure by asking one question; “If everyone acted like me right now, would the world be better or worse?” I sometimes also want to be selfish but it doesn’t end well. So for every time I feel pressured either from someone else’s actions to be selfish and be about myself, I ask “if everyone acts this way, would the world be better or worse?”

Image generated by Meta.

“All man for himself” feels like protection. But real protection is knowing you live in a world where people still choose to help, even when they don’t have to.

Thanks to @yechee for this question.I love that I’m able to participate in the discussion.

And to you reading this, thank you for reading 😘
