Greetings. Work has been a bit intense these days, just like the heat that’s been enveloping the island since early morning. I’ve been getting home very late, exhausted and with that feeling that my body is crying out for rest. That’s why, on some days, I haven’t been able to show you a little glimpse of the scenery I love to share with you as part of my work routine. Even so, here I am, with the same warmth as always, to tell you how our Wednesday went—a day that started very early, as is our custom.
The sun has been relentless—strong, bright, almost defiant—and staying hydrated has become an absolute priority. Before leaving home, we packed our large water containers, because these days the heat is relentless. With everything ready, we took Simplicio Rodríguez Avenue—that road that always gives us a breather between the sea and the mountains. It’s a route that has become an essential part of our routine, because it mentally prepares us to face the work and challenges that each day brings.

Saludos.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were welcomed very warmly, as always. They were already waiting for us to carry out our routine chlorination and disinfection of the main pool, a task we perform with great care because we know how important it is for the hotel’s operations and the peace of mind of its guests.

Dear fellow travelers in this wonderful #worldmappin community, today I want to tell you—with great affection—about a place that, even though it’s located inside a hotel, holds a natural magic that amazes everyone who visits it. I’m referring to the lagoon known as “Laguna de Manglares,” a little hidden gem inside the Sunsol Ecoland hotel, located in the municipality of Gómez, in the state of Nueva Esparta, here on our beloved Margarita Island. For many tourists, it’s one of the hotel’s most relaxing attractions, and for those of us who work near it, it’s a landscape that never ceases to captivate.

This lagoon offers activities that bring you face-to-face with nature. Among them are boating, pedal boating, and kayaking—two experiences that let you explore its calm waters while enjoying the surroundings.

What catches the eye most are the mangroves, which surround the entire lagoon as if they were natural guardians. It’s beautiful to watch them grow, to see how they stretch out in search of a place to take root, and to observe how their roots adapt to both water and land—it’s sublimely beautiful. Nature always finds a way to survive and beautify the landscape, and here it demonstrates this with unique elegance.

Several species of birds live in the lagoon, although today I’ll just show you a white heron that, somewhat warily, decided to pose for my camera. It was a special moment, because these birds are usually shy and cautious, but this one stayed still long enough for me to capture its beauty.

We’re starting a new week with new tasks and challenges, and I sincerely hope that everyone does very well in whatever they undertake. As for me, I’ll start this week with my energy fully recharged, because Sunday was a true gift; I rested, spent time with my family, and ended the day watching a sunset that looked as if it had been painted with calm and love.
On Sundays at home, we don’t usually get up early. My husband and I get up around 9:00 a.m., and this time we were able to do so in complete peace thanks to our son, who fed the chickens and the dogs early on. That gesture allowed us to enjoy a few more hours of worry-free rest—something we’re always grateful for when the week has been intense.
We had planned to spend the day resting and then go to my father’s house, because we’re cutting down some trees whose branches are interfering with his internet signal. After breakfast, the three of us set off for his house. The weather was wonderful—a bit stifling, but nothing out of the ordinary for the island, which always embraces us with its characteristic warmth.

When we arrived, my son and my husband started cutting one of the main branches, but it was too big. Our son, who’s always so resourceful, tied a rope around it and pulled it carefully to make sure no one got hurt.

While they took care of the heavy lifting, my father told me once again the story of the Mercedes he cherishes so dearly. That car, although it no longer runs well due to its age, holds enormous sentimental value for him, and every time he mentions it, he does so with a mixture of nostalgia and pride.

I hope you’re having a lovely, restful Sunday—one of those days that feels so good after a busy week. Today, finally, it’s my turn to rest, and I want to take some time to recharge my energy and share peaceful moments with my family, who are always my refuge and my source of strength. But before I fully immerse myself in this well-deserved rest, I want to tell you about my workday this past Saturday, a day that began early and ended with the satisfaction of a job well done.
As I mentioned in my previous post, this Saturday I had to work at the Sunsol Ecoland hotel’s desalination plant because we had to install and seal one of its filters with the new media. It was an important and meticulous job, so we were up and running very early. We had to pick up the crew, and two of them live quite a distance away, so to arrive at our destination on time, we literally had to set out at dawn. Even so, the weather gave us a break that day; it didn’t feel as hot as it had on previous days, and that made our trip more pleasant, accompanied by beautiful scenery and that gentle coolness you only feel at dawn on the island.

After picking up all the staff, we took the Portachuelo Road, which was the closest route from where we were. That road always surprises us with its urban and natural landscapes—a combination that turns every trip into a little visual spectacle. It’s impossible not to admire the beauty of Margarita, even when you’re on your way to a demanding job.

I wish you all a happy weekend, filled with peace and good times. Today marks the end of my last day at work, and another time I’ll tell you in more detail how it went when we changed the filter media in a 15,000-liter-per-hour filter—a task that always requires precision, dedication, and a lot of coordination. But for now, I want to share with you how my Friday went—a day filled with preparations and little moments that, as always, are part of our daily life on this beautiful island.
This Friday started off at a leisurely pace. We didn’t have to leave too early because we were headed to the Sunsol Unik hotel to submit our invoices and coordinate everything related to Saturday’s work at Sunsol Ecoland. Since our appointment wasn’t until after 9:00 a.m., we decided to take our time, enjoying the pleasant weather the island treated us to from the early morning hours. The sky was clear, the air was fresh, and every stretch of the road seemed to invite us to take a deep breath and be grateful for living surrounded by so much natural beauty.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with the warmth that always characterizes the staff at Unik. We submitted our invoices for the work performed, and everything went smoothly—that kind of harmony that makes administrative tasks much more manageable.

With that first mission accomplished, it was time for us to head to the municipality of Gómez to coordinate Saturday’s work—a day we knew would be demanding because of the responsibility of working on the desalination plant without interrupting its operation.
On the way, we passed by the house of a friend who sells fruit. He had fresh patilla, and for those unfamiliar with this fruit, it’s what we call “melon” back in my homeland. It’s usually sweet, juicy, and perfect for hydrating the body, especially on hot days. My husband and I couldn’t resist the temptation and immediately ate a nice slice—the kind that lifts your spirits and gives you the energy to keep going.

We’re heading into the weekend—it’s Friday today—and I’ve been hoping since early this morning that you’ll all have a wonderful day and a restful break. For many, this will mark the start of a two-day break, but for me, just like last week, it will be a short weekend. This Saturday, we’ll be back at work at the Sunsol Ecoland Hotel, where we’ll be replacing the filter media in one of the filters in Battery No. 2 of the desalination plant. It’s meticulous work—the kind that requires perseverance, precision, and dedication—but it also gives us the satisfaction of knowing that everything will run smoothly for the guests and for the hotel’s operations.
That’s why, among the tasks I had to complete this past Thursday, was picking up a few bags of charcoal, in addition to carrying out my regular daily duties. To carry out our chlorination and disinfection routine, we got up early, as usual. The heat on the island remains stifling, but the work doesn’t stop, and those of us who live here are, in a way, already accustomed to this intense climate that blends with the urban and natural landscapes that Margarita always offers us. I never miss an opportunity to appreciate them; even though I see them every day, they always have something surprising—a different glow, a cloud that changes the scene, a new color on the horizon. That’s Margarita for you.

On our way to our first task of the day, we were relaxed but keeping an eye on our phones because we had to stay in touch with the Tecniquímica warehouse. The day before, we’d been told that the truck carrying the coconut shell charcoal we use for our work would be arriving, so we just had to wait for the call to go pick it up.

Dear friends of #wednesdaywalk, here I am with you once again this week to share my journey—that little ritual that’s now part of my Wednesdays and that I enjoy so much, thanks to @tattoodjay. Before we begin, I want to wish you a Wednesday filled with serenity, good times, and positive energy.
The day started very early—even before the sun had fully risen—because the trip would be long, and we had several important tasks to complete at locations quite far apart from one another. My husband and I got organized the night before, knowing it would be a busy day—the kind that requires patience, good planning, and, above all, a willingness to enjoy the journey.
Our first task was to head to the town of Gómez to buy a water pump and get a quote for a small reverse osmosis system. Since Gómez is quite far away, we decided to start by buying the pump—which was for the Sunsol Ecoland hotel—and save the quote for later. So we set off for Porlamar, where we’d already found the perfect place to buy it. We’d researched prices and quality a few days earlier, so the purchase went quickly and smoothly—which is always a relief when you have a busy day ahead.

With the pump now in our hands, we set off for Gómez along the Portachuelo road, a route that always treats us to beautiful scenery.

We passed through Tacarigua and Santa Ana, enjoying the contrast between the urban and the natural that characterizes these towns.

This week got off to a very busy start for us, and before I tell you all the details, I want to wish you a wonderful day, full of serenity and, above all, productivity. Sometimes, simply starting the week with positive energy makes all the difference in how everything else unfolds. This Monday was a holiday in Venezuela, as we celebrated Indigenous Resistance Day. Many took the opportunity to rest, spend time with family, or simply stay home, but others—like us, who work for the hotel chain—experience these days as periods of hard work, where responsibility knows no holidays.
We left home early, as always, in the hot weather that characterizes the island, though that day it was particularly unpredictable. The sky was a deep, almost brilliant blue, dotted with a few scattered clouds that at times gave the illusion that it might rain. It was just that—an illusion fueled by the hope that the heat would let up a little, because when the sun decides to shine here, it does so with full force. That’s how many days on the island are: beautiful, bright, but demanding—which is why staying hydrated is a rule that should never be forgotten.

The first thing we had to do was fill up on gas. On Saturday, I worked late into the night and couldn’t do it, and on Sunday I decided to rest so I could start the week with renewed energy. We took Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi Avenue toward the Los Cerritos gas station, one of our favorites because of how well-organized and efficient it is. This time we didn’t spend much time there because they changed the payment system, and now everything flows incredibly smoothly—almost no lines, almost no stress. With a full tank, we began our routine work route.

Happy Monday afternoon. I hope you’re all doing well, in good spirits, and enjoying the start of the week—which always brings a mix of freshness, routine, and new opportunities. For me, this Monday began with a sense of relief, because yesterday—Sunday—I was able to get the rest I needed. After such a long and demanding Saturday, my body simply asked for a break, and I gave it one without feeling guilty. I slept, recharged my energy, and let the fatigue gradually fade away.
Saturday was an intense day from the very start. It began at 8:30 in the morning, when we arrived at the location of the tank we needed to repair. We’d already bought the materials the day before, so in theory, it was just a matter of getting organized and getting started. But as is often the case with fieldwork, there’s always some unexpected detail that pops up. As soon as we arrived and began preparing everything to enter the tank, we realized that the inlet valve was in terrible shape. The metal was corroded, worn down by time and moisture, and it was clear it wouldn’t hold out much longer.

While the guys were putting away the tools and preparing the access point, my husband and I went to the nearest hardware store to pick up some elbows to replace the damaged ones. Those kinds of quick errands seem simple, but they’re an essential part of the job.

When we returned, they had already started working inside the tank, and it soon became clear that the walls were in worse shape than we had imagined. There were more holes, more wear and tear, and more weakened areas. That forced us to go out again, this time to find another container of material and some fine mesh to properly seal the holes.

Happy Saturday. The weekend is officially here, even though I have to work—and yet this day has its own charm, that special feeling you get when you know the week is about to end. I hope you’re enjoying it too, each in your own way—taking it easy, spending time with family, or simply getting some well-deserved rest. Later on, I’ll tell you how my Saturday went—it’ll be my last day of work this week, and it promises to be intense but necessary.
Today I want to tell you about how our Friday went—a day that wasn’t about repairs or installations, but about searching, exploring, and patience. Sometimes the work begins long before you even pick up a tool; it starts on the street, searching for the right materials, on those errands that seem simple but end up taking up the whole day.
On Friday, we had a clear mission: to gather everything needed to repair a water tank with several holes. The cause of that damage is curious and, in a way, inevitable. Near the tank, someone planted a mango tree that grew strong and sturdy, with roots that spread without asking permission, seeking nourishment and space. Over time, those roots reached the tank’s structure and punctured several holes that we must now repair.
Not just any material will do for this type of repair. You need high-strength, water-repellent materials—products you can’t find at just any hardware store, which means you have to visit several different places. Friday dawned sunny, but a cool breeze was blowing, making the weather more bearable and less stifling. That detail, though small, was a relief on a day that promised to be long.

At Ingeniería de Piache, we managed to obtain some of the materials, which was already a significant step forward. However, we were still missing the adhesive, the gray cement, and the pre-test.
