Blue pansy butterfly

Amidst a lush expanse of foliage, a caterpillar rests upon one of the leaves. It is the larva of a Blue Pansy butterfly. Its long body forms an arch, appearing as though it is traversing a narrow path winding through the dense vegetation. The colors adorning this small creature stand in stark contrast to its surroundings. At a quick glance, its body might appear black, but a closer look reveals otherwise: it is a dark, brownish-black, accented by orange and blue hues on its spines a color combination that feels both bold and mysterious.

The longer I observe this caterpillar, the more menacing it appears. Notice the spines covering its body; they are not simple, singular spikes, but rather branched structures, reminiscent of trees in autumn stripped down to their bare trunks and twigs. These spines are delicate yet possess incredibly sharp tips. While the caterpillar may seem daunting today, in about two weeks, it will transform into something truly magnificent a creature destined to be admired by many. It will unfurl wings adorned with beautiful patterns and take flight, drifting through the air.

Chalky percher dragonfly

Amidst the lush, thriving blades of grass, I managed to spot a chalky percher dragonfly, perched gracefully atop one of the stalks. It sat there with great composure, as if savoring the beauty of the morning in the quiet seclusion provided by the dense vegetation. Its slender body displayed a striking blend of yellowish-green and deep, solid black a harmonious color combination that made it truly captivating to observe.

Beyond its beautiful body, one cannot help but notice its perfectly outstretched wings. They are transparent, adorned with an exquisite pattern; at a quick glance, they might appear as mere lines, but a closer look reveals a complex, net-like design intricate strands woven together with meticulous precision. It is simple, yet possesses a powerful allure.

The closer I zoomed in, the more astonishing the dragonfly appeared, especially its head. Its large compound eyes shifted occasionally, and its face was covered in fine, delicate hairs, adding to its unique and fascinating appearance. Meanwhile, its slender legs held firmly onto the surface of the leaf where it had chosen to rest.

Transverse ladybird

Amidst the expanse of green that fills the view, a transverse ladybird stands gracefully atop a tiny starfruit. Its presence there seems to add a distinct splash of color to the simplicity of nature. Its small, reddish-orange body accented with a glossy black contrasts sharply with its perch, creating a truly captivating sight. At a glance, the color combination adorning the insect might appear quite simple; yet, upon closer inspection, it reveals a stunning beauty resembling a tiny jewel placed deliberately in the heart of a soothing, verdant landscape.

The ladybird does not remain perfectly still; occasionally, it shifts, as if inspecting the fruit beneath its feet. Its antennae move constantly perhaps sensing the surroundings or detecting the scent of the fruit. These antennae are so delicate that they are barely visible. Meanwhile, its tiny legs support its body with great care, maintaining balance to prevent a fall whenever the wind sways the fruit upon which it rests.

Through this beetle, we learn that nature always finds its own unique way to reveal its beauty, moment by moment. If you wish to see this lovely creature for yourself, you might explore wild gardens or the small patches of shrubbery found along the roadside places that offer an abundance of food and vegetation for shelter.

Purple pinwheel

Amidst the remnants of life slowly returning to the earth, I discovered a small, often-overlooked beauty: the purple pinwheel, a tiny mushroom belonging to the genus Marasmius. I found it growing among wood chips and decaying leaves. Despite its minuscule size, the mushroom brings a sense of vitality to the spot; its color stands in striking contrast to the surrounding environment.

Because of its tiny stature, the mushroom is nearly impossible to spot without a keen eye. To the naked eye, it might appear unremarkable perhaps even entirely uninteresting. Yet, when captured through a camera lens, it transforms into something truly wondrous. Take a close look at its cap: to me, it resembles a delicate, reddish-purple flower in full bloom, nestled amidst the wood chips and decomposing foliage. The lush green grass serves as a perfect backdrop, creating a scene that is both harmonious and captivating.

Flies of the genus Isomyia

Amidst a soothing expanse of green, a tiny fly rests upon the surface of a leaf, seemingly savoring the beauty of the world in the quiet of the morning. To some, the presence of such a fly might appear entirely ordinary. Yet, for those willing to pause and observe it from a close range, a wealth of beauty gradually reveals itself. Looking at it from the closest possible distance, I felt as though I had uncovered a small secret one that often escapes our notice.

The fly I captured in this photograph is minuscule, yet its tiny body displays a striking blend of colors. Golden copper melds beautifully with metallic green; when caught by the sunlight, these hues produce a radiant, exquisite shimmer that makes the creature appear truly special. This combination of golden copper and metallic green, however, is not visible from every angle. At times, the fly’s entire body shifts to a dark hue a transformation that lends it an air of mystery.

Jelly fungus

Amidst decaying wood that is slowly losing its structural integrity, a tiny life form emerges in a truly unique way. It rises from the wooden surface in a vibrant shade of yellow some stalks stand straight, others curve slightly, and some flare out at the tips like miniature funnels. To the naked eye, it appears as nothing more than a small, bright yellow speck. Yet, when viewed through a mobile phone screen, this tiny object transforms into something truly extraordinary; it feels as though we have stepped into a miniature world one that had previously remained hidden from our notice.

This is a jelly fungus, known scientifically as Dacrymyces spathularia. It belongs to the Dacrymycetaceae family and is a remarkably unique type of fungus. It thrives in the humblest of places upon decaying wood in forgotten corners of the natural world. Given its texture soft and gelatinous, true to its name it is not a long-lasting organism. As I photographed it, I couldn't help but imagine how much more spectacular it might appear if it were just a little bit larger. Even so, in its current size, it remains a thing of beauty.

Morning glory flower and moss

Nature always has its own way of bringing together different forms of beauty within a single frame of life. This morning, I discovered two fascinating elements adorning the wild: a morning glory flower and some moss. The first thing I spotted was the morning glory, in full, perfect bloom. Its petals displayed a stunning, soft yellow hue. Beyond its beautiful color, the flower itself was exquisite shaped like a tiny, open trumpet with gently scalloped, slightly wavy edges. The lush green foliage surrounding it served as the perfect backdrop.

While I was busy photographing the flower, my eyes were drawn to something else, right there on the ground. It was a fresh, vibrant green soft and delicate, like a tiny carpet spread out by nature. To the naked eye, the moss appeared as nothing more than a simple green patch covering the earth. But when I zoomed in, it revealed something truly wondrous. Tiny details, previously unseen, emerged on my phone screen a breathtaking display that showed just how extraordinary something we usually take for granted can truly be.

Dinner at Ciribu Ciribu in Belgrade

Ćiribu Ćiriba is a charming restaurant located in Belgrade in the Zemun area. It has acozy, traditional atmosphere featuring red-accented decor and lots of vintage details

The nostalgic interior with vintage framed pictures and patterned rugs make it A great spot
My kids said it was a wonderful spot to enjoy authentic local dishes and drinks in the neighborhood where they were staying.

Roasted Red Peppers (Pepfe): Typically peeled, cold-marinated red bell peppers seasoned with garlic, olive oil, and herbs
traditional, warm flatbread or lepinja, which is a staple in Serbian cuisine. It has a soft, pillowy texture that makes it perfect for scooping up sauces, wrapping around grilled meats, or pairing with cold roasted peppers and cheese.

Karađorđeva Šnicla: A famous Serbian specialty consisting of rolled meat (typically pork or veal) stuffed with kajmak (a rich, creamy dairy spread), which is then breaded, deep-fried until golden and crispy, and served with potato wedges, lemon, and a creamy dipping sauce.

Mixed Grilled Meat Platter (Mešano Meso): A hearty assortment of grilled meats, featuring a cut of pork loin, a spiced minced-meat patty, a small sausage, and cured meat, served alongside golden potato wedges, fresh red onion, and tomato

Grilled Cheeses: Slices of lightly charred local cheese (often similar to halloumi, kashkaval, or locally produced cheese variations), garnished with cherry tomatoes and fresh arugula

The vintage Singer sewing machine base really adds to the old-world charm of the place! It has many fun little details like the decorative plates, framed pictures, and traditional textiles that make it interesting to look around.

Nature always has its own way of captivating the eye. This morning, I discovered such beauty in two tiny beetle perched upon a leaf. They were not merely resting there; rather, they were continuing a ritual passed down through generations a pledge to ensure that their distinct patterns, colors, and forms would endure within this universe. The beetle went about their business, entirely unbothered by my close proximity, acting as if nothing else around them mattered. I quite admire their demeanor so relaxed, remaining perfectly calm despite being complete strangers to one another.

These beetle are minuscule, yet their vibrant colors make them stand out strikingly against the lush, green foliage. A brownish-orange blends beautifully with a deep, solid black a perfect, harmonious combination, as if nature intentionally paired these contrasting hues to craft a simple yet enchanting sight. The brownish-orange radiates warmth, while the black adds a natural, distinctive touch to their appearance. At a fleeting glance, they might seem quite ordinary, but if you pause and look more closely, these two little insects are truly remarkable. What I have found here is a Henosepilachna pusillanima beetle.
