Good morning, blog friends! How are you all doing? I’m here to tell you about my quiet Saturday. The weather was a bit gray today, but I still headed out for a walk in town to run some errands—stopping by the pharmacy and picking up a few things. I also took the opportunity to snap some photos of some murals I spotted; one of them featured a message I fully endorse: "Without consent, it’s always rape." The issue of consent is incredibly important and, above all, needs to be taught to the younger generations. In the past, rape in Italy was classified as a crime against "public morality" rather than against the individual, and sentences were lenient. Thankfully, laws have changed, but there are still many men who take advantage of women—especially those who are intoxicated at nightclubs. We must always remain vigilant and remember that "no" means "no." Anyway, after our stroll through the town center, my husband and I decided to pop over to a second-hand market in Oste, near Montemurlo—I even took a few photos of the road we traveled along. The market is a bit of a trek, but it’s one of the best-stocked ones in the area.

El día estuvo algo gris, pero aun así salí a dar una vuelta por la ciudad para hacer algunos recados; pasé por la farmacia y compré un par de cosas. También aproveché para tomar fotos de algunos murales que vi; uno de ellos tenía un mensaje con el que estoy totalmente de acuerdo: «Sin consentimiento, siempre es violación». El tema del consentimiento es sumamente importante y, sobre todo, debe enseñarse a las generaciones más jóvenes. Antiguamente, en Italia, la violación se clasificaba como un delito contra la «moral pública» en lugar de contra la persona, y las penas eran bastante leves. Afortunadamente, las leyes han cambiado, pero todavía hay muchos hombres que se aprovechan de las mujeres, especialmente de aquellas que se encuentran bajo los efectos del alcohol en discotecas. Debemos mantenernos siempre alerta y recordar que «no» significa «no». En fin, después de nuestro paseo por el centro, mi esposo y yo decidimos acercarnos a un mercado de segunda mano en Oste, cerca de Montemurlo; incluso saqué algunas fotos del camino por el que pasamos. El mercado queda un poco lejos, pero es uno de los mejor surtidos de la zona.

The legend, is that the name Nohur comes from the name of the prophet Noah, whose ark, after a forty-day voyage,dropped anchor at Mount Manoman. Whereas the Turks claim a simialr mooring at their Mount Ararat. Even though they are a close knit community they were a friendly bunch of people, said to be hard working and loyal to each other. They also enjoy polygamous relationships.

Nokhur, a quiet village sits on a dusty country road into the Kopet Deg mountains; so leave the tarmacadam Ashgabat to Turkmenbashi road behind and join that dusty country road.

A throwback in time but still doing the business, a GAZ-69 Soviet military off-road vehicle, produced between 1953 and 1972. It was a lightweight, four-wheel-drive command vehicle and workhorse for the Red Army.

The folk in these here parts, the Nokhurli, speak their own dialect, foreign even to other Turkmen speakers.

They believe they are descended from the invading armies of Alexander the Great who wandered these parts pillaging raping and killing 300 years BCE.

This must be the equivalent of "The middle at Lidl", a fine array of products from footwear to vegatables, plants, brooms and some rather dubious looking liquids, which I am sure is not coca-cola!

As you finish your tour of the Gallery of Maps, a truly magical part of the visit to the Vatican Museums begins. The highlight is the historic Sistine Chapel, the very place where cardinals gather to elect a new Pope for the Catholic Church, but, to my surprise, before reaching it, you can spend hours wandering through various halls filled with frescoes. It makes you reflect on the countless hours these artists must have spent lying near the ceilings or against the walls, working with extreme care to avoid any mistakes that could ruin the painstaking process of painting or creating art on wet plaster or lime.

The old man and the hen (oil on paper)

Hello hivers, an happy Friday to you all! It's raining hard here and I think it will have bad weather also during the weekend. Tomorrow we will open our lab house to the people who want to spend the afternoon in a artist studio and during that time a writer (who is also a friend of us) will tell us about his new book. Fortunately our lab room is large enough and so, even if it will rain, we can stay there in a comfortable way. 😁

This morning, as usual, I woke up soon to work with my brushes and colors during the first hours of the day. During these days I'm exercising my hands and my imaginations sketching and painting subjects in different pose. You know I use to paint my character just in head and shoulders poses,but I'm exercising myself to create more complex scenes just to understand if my own characters can work adding them arms and legs. 😀
In the following pic you can see the scene I painted on my sketchbook this morning:

As you can see I imagined an old white haired man with an hen.

Wonderful Gardens on Isola Bella (Italy)

One of the most wonderful places I’ve visited recently is Isola Bella, located on Lake Maggiore.

The journey begins in the small town of Stresa, where a boat takes you to the island’s shores in just a few minutes.

Once, Isola Bella was nothing more than a rocky outcrop inhabited by fishermen. Everything changed in the 17th century when Carlo III Borromeo decided to transform it into a gift for his wife, Isabella d’Adda. In fact, this is where the name comes from: “Isabella” became “Isola Bella” (“Beautiful Island”).

The construction work continued for generations, most notably under his son, Vitaliano VI, eventually resulting in what we see today: a small island filled with Baroque-style palaces.

Un tempo l’Isola Bella era solo uno scoglio abitato da pescatori. Tutto cambia nel Seicento, quando Carlo III Borromeo decide di trasformarlo in un dono per la moglie, Isabella d’Adda. Infatti, da qui deriva il nome: “Isabella” diventa “Isola Bella”.

I lavori, però, proseguono per generazioni, soprattutto con il figlio Vitaliano VI, fino a creare quello che vediamo oggi, una piccola isola ricca di palazzi in stile barocco.

The beauty reaches its peak at Palazzo Borromeo, a subject I’ll cover in a future post, as it deserves a story all its own. The palace gardens, however, are simply wonderful!

Designed in the Italian style, the garden unfolds across ten stacked terraces, culminating in the Teatro Massimo, a Baroque theatrical setting complete with statues, niches, and obelisks, all featuring the Borromeo family symbol: the unicorn.

Amidst the hedges, you’ll find citrus trees, camellias, exotic plants and, most remarkably, stunning white peacocks. They are the true stars of the garden!

Cooking Blog: Giniling Na Baboy For Lunch

Hello, how are you? I just realized yesterday that I haven't been taking care of myself enough, and I am so stressed about it that I keep overthinking it over and over again LOL. So today I am going to be more invested in myself again because why not, right?

So today I am going to cook giniling na baboy because we have a lot of meat in our fridge, so while it is still fresh, I am going to cook it now. Then I saw vegetables that my mom bought last week, and those vegetables are paired with the food I am going to cook today.

Ingredients I Used:

4 Potatoes
1 Carrots
Garlic
Red Onion
Ground Pork
Ground Pepper

Soy Sauce
Oyster Sauce
White Vinegar
1 cup Water
Green Peas In Can
Chili Flakes

Let's Cook!

In a pan, I added about a half cup of cooking oil, and then I fried the carrots and potatoes until crispy, and this way, the vegetables do not go bad easily. Set it aside for later

In the same pan, I added the garlic and red onion and sautéed them for about a minute, or until the aroma came out.

Add the ground pork and cook it until crispy.

Add black ground pepper.

Then I added about a tablespoon of soy sauce.

Add a teaspoon of white vinegar.

Then add 3 tablespoons of oyster sauce.

Add a cup of water.

Add chili flakes, and you can skin this if you do not want it spicy.

Then add the can of green peas.

Add the carrots and potatoes.

Cook it for about 5-8 minutes over medium heat or until the carrots and potatoes are tender.

Every Grain is 100 Days of Farmer's Hardwork: Finally, It's Harvest Time

Hello everyone,

Being a farmer is not easy. There are so many sacrifices, but what can we do? We have to continue because farming is our main resources. Life on the farm is hard. We experience the heat of the sun, the mud, and sometimes even hunger because we need to finish our work. But for our family, we are willing to do everything.

Our rice is now ready for harvest after 110 days of waiting. Imagine, 110 days of taking care of the palay and praying that it will grow well and produce many grains. As farmers, we always hope for a good harvest because we know how much effort, time, and money we have invested in it.

I am proud of my husband. I know how much time and effort he has given to this rice field. He worked hard and patiently waited for this day. He even asked me to come home so I could be with him during the harvest.

My role is to prepare food for the workers and the people operating the harvester. I also stay beside my husband when it is time to compute our earnings after selling the palay and paying the people who helped us. Harvest time is not only about gathering the rice. There are also many things to prepare and expenses to think about.

There are many expenses in farming. We need to pay the workers, the harvester, and other costs. Sometimes, even after all our hard work, the price of palay is low. It is painful to think about how much effort we have given for 110 days, only to face a price that may not be enough to give us the income we hoped for.

Sometimes, I always ask, why do farmers still struggle so much? What more can the government do to help the people who work hard to provide rice for our country? If there are already programs and assistance for farmers, why do many of us, especially those living in remote areas like ours, still feel that help is far away? Maybe there is assistance available, but not every farmer knows about it or has the chance to receive it.

I hope they will pay more attention to small farmers in far communities. We need support that reaches us, fair prices for our palay, and programs that are easier to access. Farmers should not have to struggle alone after spending months working and investing their hard-earned money.

But what can we do? We still need to work and continue farming. We are thankful that, at least, we have something to harvest. We hold on to our prayers and hope that our hard work will be enough for our family's needs.

As a farmer's wife, I have learned to value every grain of rice on our table. I know that behind every plate of rice is a farmer who sacrifices time, energy, and comfort just to provide for the family.

I hope people will never take rice for granted. Every grain has a story, and behind that story is a farmer who continues to work despite the challenges. Farmers do not ask for an easy life. We only hope that our hard work will be valued and that the help meant for us will reach us.

Chow Long: An Authentic Taste of Palawan Cuisine

They say that to truly experience the place's culture, one must have a taste of its authentic dishes.

Hello, everyone!

One year of living here in the beautiful province of Palawan is one year of indulging myself in this paradise's rich and beautiful culture. And not just its astonishing views of white-sand beaches, lush green mountains, and majestic waterfalls, but meeting the kind-hearted and hospitable Palaweños and Palaweñas as well.

But of course, the Palawan experience can never be fully enjoyed without having a delectable taste of its famous local cuisine - Chow Long.

Sharing a short history about the origin of this soup, it came from the Vietnamese refugees who settled in Puerto Princesa after the fall of Saigon during the Vietnam War in 1975. And the rest, as they say, is history.

And so, back to the present.

I was quite excited to taste this Palawan cuisine; our Palaweño friend suggested we visit one of the popular Chao Long spots, Viet Ville, which is located in Barangay Sta. Lourdes.

Upon reaching the place, I was in awe as we entered the restaurant. Its bamboo walls and flooring give a cosy and homey ambience.

I also like their chandeliers and ceiling, which were all made from sawali/amakan. There's just something about this ambience that tickles my heart since I have always been fascinated by anything that is made of bamboo.

They also offer a variety of cute and colourful handicrafts, with a touch of Vietnamese culture, for pasalubong.

And now the wait is over; it's time for a hot bowl of Palawan's Chow Long, which is also offered in different flavours. These are Vietnamese Chow Long (Traditional Rice Porridge), Pork Soup Bone Chow Long, Chicken Chao Long, Beef Stew Chow Long, and Pork Spareribs Chow Long.

I ordered Beef Stew Chow Long.

This soup is a sweet noodle soup made from thick rice noodles, with chunks of pork, beef or chicken, inspired by Vietnamese Pho.

It is also mixed with cabbage and bean sprouts (which are usually served raw). You just have to add the raw bean sprouts to the hot soup at let its hotness alone cooked the sprout, and after a few minutes of submerging them in the hot soup, the crunchiness of the half-cooked sprouts adds a unique taste to the soup.

And lastly, this soup wouldn't be complete without a sprinkle of calamansi.

If you prefer to add more flavour to it, you can add soy sauce or fish sauce, and a little bit of ground pepper. And if you are a spicy food lover, you can also add chilli sauce to it.

Chow Long is best paired with the French toast. There are varieties of flavours to choose from. They have garlic, barbecue, chicken, tuna, roasted pork and butter toast. I ordered the latter.

More than just a bowl of hot noodle soup, Chow Long is an authentic taste that deeply connects me to Palawan's rich culture, indigenous heritage and colourful festivals.
