Solemn Day [What Story Am I Writing?]

Waking up to the weekend in BC. We were home late last night. We might have stayed until 3 am, but Dad was already tired and sleepy (we have been at Kuya T's wake early in the day), so we left just before midnight.

And today, we are attending the funeral. A solemn day for the immediate clan. There have been six deaths around us recently, 3 of them are relatives from Dad's side of the family. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it to all the wakes, so we just sent our heartfelt condolences and financial help to the bereaved families.

Grief can be too heavy, emotionally and physically draining, and we must take good care of our well-being too. However, we can't miss to see an old aunt for the last time. So after Kuya T's interment, we would take the 3.5-mile drive in the afternoon to pay our last respects. It's at least comforting to know that someone in the clan lived longer than most (she's beyond 90).

We expect to be hearing more stories, testimonies, sharings of relatives and guests there too, as we did yesterday.

Last night, I was reminded yet again that how we live (and how we treat others) become a script (story) which people would read (or hear) when we our breathe ceases. Kuya T may have lived a short life, but he led a good one, impacting not only his immediate family, but also others—relatives or not, even strangers. His kindness knew no bounds.

Many remembered him as a beautiful soul—a generous giver, a protector, a loyal friend, a jolly person, faithful, compassionate, etc. Even some of his classmates way back in his gradeschool days mentioned his amiable personality. His niblings praised him for being a great father and a loving uncle. Some couldn't express their gratitude for everything he has done for them. Most respect and look up to him as their father figure.

While listening, a question came to me—what kind of story have I been writing to this point? Is it something worth-reading too?

I guess this isn't for me to just ponder upon, but to really audit myself, and be very honest with what I may discover, then start anew if it is not something I'd want others to read and hear when my time comes.

Amazing Mushroom Transformation From White and Flat to Brown and Dry

‎Good day, dearest hivers and fungi lovers! ❤️ Today, I get the pleasure to share with you another little find of mine... a mushroom.
‎One morning, as I walked outside, I have discovered another mushroom growing near our chicken coop in a different spot than the one I showed you in my previous post. While at first glance it did not have any notable differences, upon closer inspection I have discovered a small slice near the rim of the mushroom's cap.

‎I only discovered it while writing this article and looking at the pictures again. This little mushroom was covered in white color with gills on the underside of its cap. Its cap was very flat and scaly and had a brown spot in the center.

‎If I were to describe it in food terms, I would say that it reminded me of a pancake that has been burnt a little bit in the center. Haha On day two, when I came outside, the previously white cap of the mushroom had turned brown and dried up, changing the overall look of the mushroom to a more umbrella-like shape. While I understood that the mushroom was coming to the end of its life cycle, I still found it rather cute. Hehe

‎On day three, I came across another change into my mushroom that had undergone overnight. Its cap, started to close at the edges to look more similar to an umbrella.

‎It made me realize just how cool mushrooms are. Just by looking at one of them, you can see its character and have it change before your eyes with the change of appearance.

‎While I am not yet sure what species this little mushroom belongs to, I will leave its identification to you, dear fellow fungi lovers...

I have explored many of the city’s natural areas, though not all of them in their entirety, as each forest park, for example, covers many hectares and has numerous paths and trails. They have always surprised me, but never quite like this time.

He visitado ya muchas veces el jardín botánico y he tratado de seguir los distintos sonidos de los animales que en probabilidad podía encontrar, pero sólo una vez pude ver a lo lejos uno de ellos en un árbol, pero se movió tan rápido que apenas pude verlo y menos fotografiarlo.

Siempre pienso como me gustaría ver un camaleón, pero la realidad es que ellos se mimetizan muy bien y eso es casi imposible.

Los mamíferos se encuentran más en los llamados montes de Málaga a los que aún no he ido nunca y en cuanto a las aves he visto muchas, aunque desde muy lejos, en la reserva protegida de la desembocadura del río Guadalhorse, en la cual hay varias lagunas.

Pero siempre que voy a los parques forestales, como el caso de un paseo que di hace algunos días y que ven en las fotos, busco ver ese camaleón o a las ardillas. Y es de esta última al cual se refiere el post de hoy, la ardilla roja que fue introducida aquí en los años 70.

21st Restaurant: Were We Satisfied?

Happy Saturday Hivers!

Our eldest sister treated us to dinner on her birthday. Although she couldn’t be with us because she lives abroad, she still wanted us to celebrate her special day by having dinner.

Since my mom had already tried dining at this restaurant when it first opened, she suggested that we have dinner at 21st Restaurant. But the question is, were we satisfied with our dining experience? Let's find out!

When we arrived at the restaurant, it was already getting dark, so the lights were on. Honestly, I was already impressed by the entrance! I don't know the name of the plant they used, but it has long, hanging strands that add to its beauty. They also decorated it with lights, making the entrance even more attractive. I believe most guests would be impressed by this beautiful sight, too.

The ambiance was really nice, and I loved the atmosphere. But what about the other aspects of our dining experience?

When we arrived at the restaurant, it was still quiet, and we were their only customers. My mom knows how much I love taking pictures, so she also knows that I can suddenly disappear from her sight whenever I see something interesting to photograph. Haha! That was why she immediately told me to order our food first.

As I approached the counter, I noticed that the staff were all friendly and greeted us with smiles. My first impression was that they had a nice and welcoming team. So, I started looking through their menu and choosing what we wanted to eat.

However, things took an unexpected turn when I started placing our order. The waiter kept telling me, "Ma'am, that is not available today." I would choose another dish, only to hear the same response. I tried mentioning several other items on the menu, but many of them were also unavailable.

Honestly, I was so disappointed. It felt like my excitement had suddenly disappeared. You know that feeling when you see a particular dish and immediately crave it, only to find out that you can't order it? That was exactly how I felt! I was really looking forward to trying some of the food on their menu, but I ended up ordering dishes that we hadn't even planned to try.

Would you still feel excited about eating after an experience like that? Because, honestly, I didn't feel as enthusiastic anymore.

Still, we decided to stay instead of looking for another restaurant. The other options were quite far away, and I also had to consider my mom's condition because her knee tends to hurt when she walks too much. I didn't want her to experience more discomfort just because we needed to find another place to eat. So, we decided to continue with our dinner despite the disappointment.

While waiting for our food, I took the opportunity to look around the restaurant. That was when I noticed some digital art displayed in small frames. Actually, I only realized later that I hadn't taken a photo showing all the framed artworks hanging on the wall. I had photographed them individually instead. Haha!

However, if you zoom in the photo below, you can see that the artworks are displayed near the tables and chairs. Although they are small, they add a decorative touch to the restaurant's interior.

Finally, it was time to eat! Our food was served quite quickly, and we didn't have to wait long. That was a good thing, so we started eating right away.

Honestly, the food was too oily. You could even feel the oil on your lips with every bite. Still, I continued eating. My mom told me that the food tasted better when the restaurant had just opened. She said it was delicious back then. Well, maybe their chef has already resigned.

A really nice day today. Headed to the bays for the usual club open water swim and run. Water temperature has really improved since I was in there about three weeks ago. But back on the treadmill this afternoon noon for a 70 minute build, followed by 5 x 1 minute efforts.

Other days maybe it’s a hike up to “Towhee Ridge”, crunching through a trail covered with a thick carpet of fallen “Big Leaf Maple leaves!🍁

The second choice was sounding good to Silvertop today!🤗
It had been a while……….😊
This is Silvertop’s “Stomping Ground”, I could hike these trails with my eyes closed Lol!😇
Keith and Lynne live “Off the Grid”, on several hundred acres, high atop a Ridge on Sumas Mountain!
Keith a retired businessman, built this ridge top deck, for the hikers that come to enjoy the forest!
Then he started cutting MORE trails!😅
The first time Liz and Silvertop explored this slice of Sumas Mountain, we had no idea where we were heading Lol!😮
Finally we passed Lynne……………
“Silvertop just stay on the main trail, it loops back around in a circle!”😇
Since then I have probably worn out at least one pair of hiking boots on these trails Lol!😅
It’s a good thing I keep a new second pair of boots in storage Lol!🤣
