I never tire of recommending the beach located in the Güirintal area, in the state of Sucre, Venezuela. Situated just 10 minutes from Cumaná, this beach is one of the state’s hidden gems—one that tourists have managed to discover in recent years.

Nunca me canso de recomendar la playa ubicada en la zona de Güirintal, en el estado Sucre, Venezuela. Situada a solo 10 minutos de Cumaná, esta playa es una de las joyas ocultas del estado, una que los turistas han logrado descubrir en los últimos años.

We traveled in our own vehicle, but if you’d like to visit this beach, you can also take public transport: there are cars, vans, and buses heading toward Marigüitar that pass through the area. The fare for public transport is 1,700 bolivars—roughly equivalent to $2. About 10 minutes past the El Peñón toll station, right in front of a pineapple stand, you’ll find the turnoff that leads down to this beautiful, uncrowded beach.

As I’ve mentioned on other occasions, one of the appeals of this beach is that it’s not well-known, and as a result, it’s never crowded. There are very few tourists, so you’ll never feel like your personal space is being invaded or that the surrounding noise and bustle are causing you stress.

In Loving Memory of Our Dear Lizelle ❤️

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the devastating news that our dear @lizelle, founder of the Silver Bloggers community, has passed away following her battle with cancer.

For so many of us here on Hive, Lizelle was much more than the founder of a community. She was a dear friend, and someone whose kindness and warmth helped bring people together from all corners of the world.

Silver Bloggers was something very special to Lizzie. Through her vision and dedication, she created a real community where friendships could flourish, stories could be shared, and members could enjoy the simple pleasures of life together. Whether that meant sharing the odd sandwich or two, reminiscing about wonderful memories, or simply enjoying each other's company.

Her loss will be felt deeply throughout our community and all over Hive.

Many of you will remember our previous update on our dear Lizelle, when we shared news of her health and the challenges she was facing.

Sadly, today we have to share the news we had all hoped would never come.

A Message from Lizelle's Son, Dean

Dean has kindly asked us to share the following message with her friends and the wider Silver Bloggers community.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to share the news that my mom lost her battle with cancer.

Fortunately, her pain did not last very long, and as much as we wish she could still be here with us, we take comfort in knowing that she is now free from pain and suffering.

She can finally rest in peace and be reunited with my Dad, whom she missed so very much.

She was so deeply loved and had the gentlest soul.

This is absolutely heartbreaking for all of us, but I hope we can find comfort in cherishing the beautiful memories we have of her.

A Lasting Legacy

There are some people who leave a lasting impression on our lives, even when we have never had the opportunity to meet them in person.

Lizelle was one of those people.

Through her words, her friendship and her dedication to Silver Bloggers, she touched the lives of so many. She helped build not simply a Hive community, but a family of friends from all over the world who genuinely care about one another.

And that is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.

While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the life of a remarkable lady whose kindness and gentle spirit will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Dean, the entire family, and everyone who loved Lizelle.

We hope they can take some comfort in knowing just how much she meant to so many people across the world.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to Zac (@papilloncharity) for acting as the link between Lizelle's family and the Silver Bloggers community, and for keeping us informed with news and updates about our dear @lizelle throughout this difficult time.

In Memorium - Lizelle Bright

When I heard the news of Lizelle’s passing this morning and it was as if someone knocked the wind out of me. A gut punch, for sure. I hadn’t planned on doing a post on Hive today but felt compelled to express my feelings about this amazing and wonderful woman. I knew a little bit about the health challenges she was going through but had no idea her condition had gotten so serious. I had always assumed this was something she would eventually recover from.

I can’t remember exactly when I first met Lizelle but I believe it was very early days, 2017 or 2018? Thankfully she made the migration from Steemit to Hive during the fork. She was one of the kindest, most positive, selfless, and supportive people on the platform. She was always the first to comment on and enthusiastically support my Hive initiatives like—Pay It Forward for the Holidays and The Blockchain Memory Project. When she started the Silver Bloggers community I felt it was time to repay the favor.

Even though I’ve been on Hive for over a decade and try to attend face-to-face meetups when I could, I’ve never been good at connecting with other users on Discord or other message boards. I really wish I would have done more of this in Lizelle’s case. She has a nephew who’s an airline pilot and he happened to live just miles away from me. She always said when she came to visit we’d meet for a meal and I’m sorry we never got to do that.

@Lizelle and I connected in other ways, mostly through each others post comments and occasional emails. In many ways she became almost like a surrogate mother to me. She offered me so much support when my Dad passed away in 2020 and when I was going through my sourdough bread making phase during the pandemic years. She was one of the most enthusiastic supporters of my writing. As an indie author struggling to be heard, I was always so very appreciative of that. I’d send her copies of my books in the mail over the vast Atlantic ocean, although it took many months for them to arrive and they were often in a very sad state when they eventually got there.

In many ways our friendship is an example of how powerful a platform like Hive can be. Above all Hive is a connector of people. People, who’ve never met face-to-face, having the ability to develop such a deep and lasting friendship having the chance to connect like this is a true blessing. Virtual friends can be true friends. These connections on Hive aren’t mired by algorithms or ads. This isn’t meant to be a plug for the platform, it's the God's honest truth.

It’s times like these that make us question so many things—if we could have done more, made more of an effort to reach out, to see if our friends need anything. I hope Lizelle realized how much she meant to me and so many others here. I like to think she did.

I just couldn’t let this day go by without posting a little something about such a good friend of mine. I find it so fitting that Lizelle’s last name was Bright. Her kindness and optimism were like warm sunshine to so many of us during our darkest days.

You will be greatly missed, my friend. I’m sorry we never had a chance to share that meal, that I never got to give you a ride in my Tesla. We promise we will keep the torch burning for you. I’ll remember you every time I bake bread or try a new recipe, every time I pay it forward during the holidays, I catalogue a memory on the blockchain, or use the Silver Bloggers tag on a post.

I send my prayers and condolences to Lizelle’s friends and family. May her memory live on in all of us through our decision to choose positivity over pessimism and kindness over hatred. Rest well, Lizelle. Much love to you.

El extraño orden de las cosas

No sé si a ti te sucede lo mismo, pero a mí me ha pasado muchas veces: se desarrolla una serie de acontecimientos, uno tras otro, todos interconectados —como si una mano invisible lo estuviera organizando todo, o como si un único hilo los uniera—, dando lugar a resultados sorprendentes, casi milagrosos. Por ejemplo, recuerdo una vez que debía viajar en un carro para asistir a una clase de posgrado; sin embargo, una serie de sucesos "casuales" me impidieron realizar el viaje, y ese mismo vehículo terminó sufriendo un accidente aparatoso. O aquella otra vez en la que obtuve una beca para estudiar en España; aunque al principio me hizo mucha ilusión, la enfermedad de mi padre me obligó a renunciar a ella y, a la larga, resultó ser la mejor decisión que pude haber tomado.

Algo parecido me ocurre con la literatura. En ocasiones, mientras atravesaba determinadas situaciones, me he topado —por pura casualidad— con libros que no solo me ayudaron a sobrellevar esos momentos o sentimientos, sino también a comprenderlos mejor. A menudo menciono La enfermedad, una novela del escritor venezolano Alberto Barrera Tyszka, que llegó a mis manos justo cuando mi padre pasaba por la peor etapa de su enfermedad renal.

Recuerdo que ese libro llegó a mí de manera fortuita: me encontré con un amigo que olvidó el libro en la mesa del bar donde tomábamos cervezas. Yo lo tomé y lo guardé para devolvérselo. Después, al día siguiente, lo abrí, comencé a leerlo a las 2 de la tarde y terminé de leerlo a las 3 de la madruga. Ha sido una de esas lecturas que más recuerdo porque quedé vacía, derrotada, débil, cuando cerré el libro. No pude dejar de llorar, no solo por lo que acababa de leer, sino por todo lo que estaba sintiendo. Aquel libro me había encontrado para enseñarme muchas cosas con respecto a la enfermedad y muerte de un padre.

A propósito de esto, ayer escuchaba un podcast interesante que sostenía que nada en nuestras vidas sucede por accidente. Todo lo que ocurre forma parte de un guion escrito incluso antes de que naciéramos. Según los invitados, el azar no existe; todo está conectado a un gran "plan" que trasciende nuestra propia existencia. Nuestra única tarea consiste en descifrar las señales que se encuentran a nuestro alrededor, como si fueran estrellas en el cielo.

Desde hace algún tiempo, mi faceta más poética —y menos racional— ha optado por prestar atención a estas señales; por reconocer los hilos invisibles que subyacen a las miles de experiencias que llamamos "coincidencias" y que ocurren en el mundo a cada instante. Creo que todo lo que nos sucede tiene una razón de ser y que, aunque al principio no logremos ver ni comprender el "porqué" de algunas cosas, el patrón subyacente —la conexión— terminará, tarde o temprano, por revelarse.

Personalmente, disfruto abriendo libros de poesía y dejando que un poema me "hable", me toque o haga una metáfora de lo que estoy sintiendo, por ejemplo. Esta práctica —quizás no muy madura ni objetiva, pero sin duda muy lúdica— me ha servido, en muchas ocasiones, como quien enciende una vela mientras camina en la oscuridad. Creo en las coincidencias, en la sincronicidad; en esa forma extraña, mágica e inexplicable en la que el universo nos habla. Pues, como dijo una vez Anatole France: "El azar es el seudónimo de Dios cuando no desea firmar con su propio nombre".

Additionally, there is an observation deck located behind the letters, providing a perfect vantage point to take in the stunning seascape, particularly at sunset. The deck is decorated with yellow and blue stripes, and from this spot, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the beach, the walking path, the outdoor gym, and the bicycle rental station. To ensure the safety of those walking, blue walls separate the path from the national highway. The path follows the coastline and stretches all the way to the area known as Caigüire.

This weekend was my youngest niece’s birthday. She turned 9, and we decided to hold the celebration at one of the most popular water parks in Cumaná: Diverty. This park is located on the Antonio José de Sucre highway and is open only on Saturdays and Sundays.

Este fin de semana fue el cumpleaños de mi sobrina menor. Cumplió 9 años y decidimos celebrar en uno de los parques acuáticos más populares de Cumaná: Diverty. Este parque se encuentra en la carretera Antonio José de Sucre y solo abre los sábados y domingos.

To get there, you need to travel by private car or taxi, as public transportation does not serve that area. Since we had to decorate and bring items for the celebration, we arrived at 9:00 a.m., and the guests began to arrive after 11:00 a.m. The admission fee is $3 for adults and $1 for children.

I had never been to this place before, and I found it wonderful—especially for children. The park features three shallow swimming pools, as well as a variety of water slides and mechanical rides for both children and adults. On several occasions, they stopped by our canopy to see if we needed anything; in fact, when we needed more chairs and tables, they took care of getting them for us. The restroom and shower area were also in excellent condition.

Las instalaciones están muy bien cuidadas y todo se mantiene muy limpio. Un hombre bueno

Papá siempre fue un hombre bueno, eso era lo que decía todo el mundo. También era callado, reservado, solitario y aquellos rasgos se le acentuaron después de que mamá se marchó y nos abandonó a él y a nosotros. Papá salía al trabajo muy temprano y regresaba muy tarde, en la noche. A nosotros, a Juancho, Ana y a mí, mamá nos llevaba a la escuela y luego nos iba a buscar al mediodía. Ella, supongo yo, pasaba la mañana entre los quehaceres del hogar y las compras del mercado, porque justo fue allí donde conoció a Lencho, un hombre de la otra costa que traía pescado para vender, con quien se fue una mañana y más nunca supimos de ella.

Lo de mamá lo fuimos descubriendo poco a poco, o por lo menos yo quien era el más pequeño. Papá sí debió saberlo el mismo día o tal vez mucho antes, en la cama, en el cuerpo esquivo, en el silencio, que mamá quería dejarlo, pero no dijo nada, como siempre y solo nos fue a buscar a la escuela, en la noche, cuando regresó a la casa y encontró solo una carta que decía que aunque él era un hombre bueno, ella se había enamorado de otro.

Papá no cambió, para qué, solo bebió más, diariamente y en cantidades imposibles, pero mantuvo su trabajo, sus responsabilidades como padre y hasta en la casa hacía de todo. Nos despertaba, nos bañaba, hacía la comida y luego le decía a Juancho que se diera cuenta de nosotros en la escuela. Juancho era el mayor y apenas tenía 12 años. Tal vez fue por eso que Juancho fue el que más odio a mamá . Porque cuidaba de nosotros y se daba cuenta de papá, después que lo encontraba tirado entre botellas vacías.

Una vez volvimos a ver a mamá. Los cuatro fuimos al mercado y ahí estaba ella, sudada, con un delantal sucio y envejecida. Nosotros la vimos, papá también la vio, ella también logró mirarnos. Su boca se abrió, igual que sus ojos, tal vez con la intención de decirnos algo; pero mi papá pasó tranquilo, como si nunca hubiese bebido por ella, como si su abandono no nos hubiese cambiado la vida. Pasó a su lado sin decirle nada, como si ella fuera invisible y él un ciego, o un mudo, o simplemente, como siempre, pasó como un hombre bueno.

Dad was always a good man—that’s what everyone said. He was also quiet, withdrawn, and solitary—traits that became even more pronounced after Mom left, abandoning both him and us. Dad would head off to work very early and return quite late at night. As for us—Juancho, Ana, and me—Mom would take us to school and then pick us up at midday. I suppose she spent her mornings handling household chores and doing the marketing; in fact, it was at the market that she met Lencho—a man from the other coast who brought in fish to sell—and one morning she left with him, and we never heard from her again.

We discovered the truth about Mom little by little—or at least I did, being the youngest. Dad must have known that very day—or perhaps much earlier, sensing it in their shared bed, in her evasive body, in the silence—that Mom wanted to leave him. Yet he said nothing, as was his way. He simply picked us up from school, and that evening, upon returning home, he found only a letter: it explained that, although he was a good man, Mom had fallen in love with someone else.

Dad didn’t change—why would he? He just drank more—every single day, in impossible amounts. And yet, he kept his job, fulfilled his responsibilities as a father, and even took care of everything around the house. He would wake us up, bathe us, and prepare our meals, then tell Juancho to keep an eye on us at school. Juancho was the oldest, and he was barely twelve. Perhaps that is why Juancho grew to hate Mom the most—because he was the one looking after us, and he was the one who had to deal with Dad, often finding him sprawled out among empty bottles.
