The use of goat horns forms part of ancient Turkic folklore, for centuries before the islamic hordes moved in to begin their quest for world domination.

These horns provide protection for the deceased, to ward off evil spirits and help the soul of the dead reach the afterlife. I wonder what happens to the beheaded animal on its journey through eternal blackness.

Nowadays the ancient folk refuse to give up their beliefs entirely, weirdly entwining them with islamic doctrines, often a crescent moon is also seen on the headstones and grave markers.

The grave markers are often engraved with horizontal markings symbolising "steps" or pathways to guide the soul of the deceased safely on its rise to heaven. Fucked if like me hell awaits as there is nothing going down.

These isolated mountain people have always celebrated mountain goats venerated for their strength and endurance in harsh environments.

Similar horns are often hung outside houses in the village for protection.

As well as the horns, a lot of the grave markers are wrapped with vibrantly coloured fabric, representing a sign of respect and honouring the tribe’s rich silk-weaving traditions.

Tourists are forbidden from entering into the walled grounds of the cemetery in order to protect its sacred burial traditions.

So it was a case of leaning over the wall, with my tackle fully extended, reaching the spots that smaller ones can't.
Size really does matter.

https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/grindle/23swXqJXt8Mc6TXJwmnAwmv4oMxoBwAjmvRLoXcDDUHEhxE4HEypbBti31EAuDAcFEBWt.png

![IMG_3507.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/shanibeer/245wDHirGnUFnigGLmRYVnruJpPZq5TQFaKbYP8Nz3nm8ka6KcRiLjBCroJn2BaCfB5pU.jpeg)

> *River Thames and St Paul's Cathedral, London. Saturday 15 November 2025*
There was this time I walked into a room and there was nothing in it except a comfortable bed with pillows and covers and a Cornish ware blue and white striped jug on the window sill holding red and purple black centred anemones.

It was warm, the winter sun streaming through the glass.

The room was plain, dowdy, an ordinary size double bedroom (a single next door, holding a drawing board and a rack of overcoats) in a modern townhouse, set near the city boundary, in a quiet cul-de-sac built on top of the council estate.

There was a break-in once, the murdered step ladders flung on the lawn, the shovel used to prise open the lounge windows dead on the patio.

What did they want to steal? The battered brown leather nineteen thirties suite? The Raoul Dufy poster of a cart horse and farm worker? Ah, the television, those old heavy things with a tube in the back.

Anyway, that's just me explaining context to you.

It was the room, walking into that room with nothing but a bed and a vase of anemones in the sunshine, that changed things.

I went back home to my house filled with necessary things - things I thought were necessary to have in a house. I had a secondhand mentality about the way to acquire things, South London working class, wartime generations of deprivation and old no-money ways.

Ugly double wardrobes, ugly upholstered chairs, a heavy dining table with barley twist legs, stained George Orwell spitting tobacco dark brown, in a clumsy mish-mash of a room.

And I left the man I was with.

Lol, this sounds almost too devastating.

That was the first clearing out, though even the second-hand wheeler dealers with the lot by the Underground station refused the wardrobes.

I remember the storage place with my few bits and bobs. The stand alone gas cooker with the eye level grill and plate warming racks, given by my mother's aunt, a New World model, inexpensive then, a luxury brand now.

A sturdy ancient upright Hoover gleaned from a junk shop, the wooden carver chair from Deptford market (not actually for sale but he said, "make me an offer"), still with the adhesive label with my name on it, standing in my bedroom. There were more things: my grandfather's army trunk, although that has gone now. One of those things you lose the run of. Maybe it was annihilated in a later purge.

That's the thing about minimalism: there's a cost. It's not an easy add-on, a style, pick the bits you like, buy the latest perfectly made, impossible to use, real pig's bristle, vegetable scrubber. It's real life wounds, tearing away from detritus, your skin, and heart, raw and bleeding.

Now I wander the world in a carefully authored carapace of old and new and new to me, layered, unhurried, notebook and pen in hand.

Buying a Sunday newspaper I've run out to get, all the sections and the supplement, staying with my lover in a place with no internet, reading every page.

Later, going to the gallery, hanging over the escalator, watching the tiny people below, looking at Tracey's Bed, and thinking, thank goodness that's over, although, of course, I never smoked. A Sunday party for Hive users to interact and just talk crap about whatever happens to be going on at the time. It might be Hive related, it might be current events, sports, or it might be something else entirely. But whatever it is, it will be in the interest of having fun and evoking laughter, piss-taking, teasing and hopefully, a lot of enjoyment for those involved.

The scientific name of that plant is Dittrichia viscosa, and if you're wondering what Marlera is, well, here comes the answer to the question you may or may not have just asked.
"Marlera is a coastal area situated near the village of Liznjan, only a kilometer or two from there, and about four to five kilometers from where I live." Borjan Radolović
The answer is in quotation marks becouse I'm quoting myself. I copied those words from one of my previous posts.

(Enlargeable)

The lovely yellow flowers shown in this opening photograph belong to Dittrichia viscosa, arguably the main character of today's story. I mean, it is more of an ensemble thing, with some insects equaly prominent in the post, but everything takes place on that plant, so... let's say that Dittrichia viscosa has a very special place in this. In the following photograph...

(Enlargeable)

...you can see two tiny beetles exploring the nectar-rich flowers.

(Enlargeable)

These are the shining flower beetles. The scientific name of the family is Phalacridae.

(Enlargeable)

The scientific name of the species shown in these photographs is Stilbus testaceus.

(Enlargeable)

In this wide shot, you can see Dittrichia viscosa in its environment, and most importantly, you can take a short break from small things before we continue with hardcore macro stuff.

Like all the members of the Phalacridae family, Stilbus testaceus is a very small insect. When on flowers, this beetle feeds on pollen and nectar, but it can also be found on decaying vegetation, in the hay, moss, and leaf litter, where it feeds on microfungi and spores.

(Enlargeable)

Dittrichia viscosa has composite flowers. Which means that...

(Enlargeable)

... what appears as a single flower is actually a complex inflorescence, known as a capitulum or flower head, made of several tiny individual flowers called florets packed tightly together, and often surrounded by what looks like petals. Those petals that aren't the classic petals are what make the whole thing look like a single flower at first sight.

(Enlargeable)

In composite flowers, each "petal" is a single floret called a ray flower or ray floret. The tiny, tubular flowers in the central disc of the flowerhead are called disc flowers or, yes, you guessed it right, disc florets. In the following photograph...

(Enlargeable)

...you can see a Stilbus testaceus beetle half-buried in a disc floret to get the nectar at the bottom of the tiny cup. I don't know; to me, this is kinda cute. It is like a scene from the Maya the Bee cartoon.

(Enlargeable)

In this shot, the same beetle is out of the floret.

Right now I’m working full steam ahead in the studio and am back to putting together lots of new tracks. The weather is definitely perfect for spending more time in the studio again. Of course, I’m also checking out my mushroom spots, and sure enough, after a break of many months, I’ve finally made my first finds. But more on that in another post. On October 16, 2026, I released my trance anthem “The Best You Had” on Arive Records. From there, the track will be distributed to all major platforms.

https://youtu.be/7SAQt-g7MJ4

I kept “Andy Jay Powell - The Best You Had” in my uplifting trance style again. The first week went well. With a little luck, the number of plays on Spotify will reach five figures over the next week.

https://youtu.be/5UOgBohNUlc

Even though the weekend is almost over again, this post is my contribution to @uwelang's #danceweekend. I hope you like my new track. Feel free to leave constructive feedback in the comments.

Hallo liebe Freunde,

Andy Jay Powell - The Best You Had habe ich wieder in meinem Uplifting Trance Style gehalten. Die erste Woche lief schon gut. Mit etwas Glück sind Klickzahlen auf Spotify im Laufe der nächsten Woche fünfstellig.

Last year we hiked to Lower Bertha Falls, or about a third of the way to Bertha lake. This year the plan was to hike all the way to the lake, so I did. Located inside Waterton Lakes Park, Alberta, the trailhead begins on the edge of town. Weather was looking up for the hike which is always super welcome. First leg of the hike will get us to the lower falls (then the real work begins). Here are some of the first photos. As you can see, only minutes into the hike and we are already getting a sweet view of Waterton lake. Thanks for stopping by.
