![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmZ3zmv7Rt59ANpprMnjLHtHvwDnXDrZG4qRJ3DJTW8LSS/tbt.jpg)

Me miró riéndose y me dice: Se te olvidó prenderla.

Predestination or Free Will?

A discussion—one into which I could weave countless ideas that lead me to contemplate the infinite and the connections that bind us together.
To my mind, the best of these are those fortunate coincidences that bring us to something—or someone—at the exact moment we need it most.

I bring this up because of two minor, unrelated events that I’ll share with you now.

Early this morning, upon waking, I went to the kitchen and set up the electric coffee maker—a full batch, enough for the whole family.
Sensing that my wife was getting up, I returned to the bedroom to check on her. We chatted while she got dressed, assuming that by then, our essential morning brew would be ready.
But nothing—not a single drop. She looked at me, laughing, and said, "You forgot to turn it on." I flipped the switch, but the machine didn't start.
It turned out to be unplugged; even after I plugged it back in, it still wouldn't turn on.

She pressed the switch, and it finally came to life. We laughed while waiting for the coffee to brew, piecing together what had happened: I had turned the coffee maker on, and she had turned it off—but it hadn't worked because she had unplugged it the day before.
The whole thing happened because I didn't wait—as I usually do—to hear the water begin to gurgle as it boiled before leaving the kitchen.

Another curious occurrence was encountering a bust of Luís de Camões in the "plazoleta" (small square) of Portugal during my walk yesterday—this, right after having read several posts about bronze statues.

As the sign—labeling it a "plazoleta"—suggests, it is not a large space; rather, it feels like a quiet nook, perfect for a hot afternoon, once the "El Niño" and "La Niña" weather patterns stop sending us these unexpected rains.

Voting Power

I started accessing Hive via @ecency one day when I was having trouble with hive.blog, and I ended up staying here. That connection remained for my other account, @aurora.jabon, where I only share content related to my hobby and business—handcrafted soap—which is currently on hold.

I mention this because, over the last few days, I’ve noticed that my "downvote power" (negative voting power) has been decreasing, even though I haven’t been using it. At first, I worried that I might have clicked the wrong button and penalized someone I actually intended to reward. Fortunately, that’s not the case, but I find it curious that—if the two are linked—they don’t decrease or increase in equal proportion.

Could it be that I did cast a downvote? If so, is there any way to find out? And is it possible to undo the mistake?

Since I’m not entirely sure how this works, I would appreciate any insight you could provide.

I truly hope I haven’t caused any harm; however, if any account happened to receive a downvote from me, please let me know so that I can—if possible—make amends for an unpleasant experience that was certainly never intended to cause any annoyance or damage.

Thank you for reading and for your comments.
Below, you will find an English translation generated via Google.

Now, I find myself reflecting on the true value of a vote.

No hace falta tener respuestas.

ENGLISH

Good evening and sweet dreams.

I have met people who are dream repairers. I know it sounds mystical, but no, they are real and I will tell you why.

Sit comfortably and think—those people I'm talking about are those who push you from the soul so that, if your will fails, you reach the end of your goal. They encourage you, they help you, they inspire you, and sometimes they don't even realize how much they did.

I have spent more than half of my life studying medicine and then postgraduate studies, master's degrees, specializations, diplomas, etc. Professors have been examples, teachings, reasons to grow as a professional, and there is always someone who was your push, your strength.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic appeared, I began an important project in my life related to bacteriology. The pressure of that battle for life redirected my day-to-day to working in the red zone for almost 2 years, from the first cases until the normalization of the epidemiological situation. That made me falter in my project because everything was stopped, time passed, and exhaustion was real. Convinced that it wasn't for me, I told my tutor—an eminent professor and a wonderful person—that I wanted to give up. I remember she didn't give me a motivational speech. She told me something much simpler: "I already saw you capable. It's just that today you don't believe it." And she lent me her confidence during the weeks when mine wasn't enough.

Paris is burning, and not a single mass is being said.
The welfare state has been reclaimed by the State itself.
Every paradigm is now called into question.

Humanity is being forced to awaken the survival instinct—that dormant reptilian core—or else drift into a stagnant stupor, like a herd of zombies.
I cannot find the tongs with which to hold onto this present moment, which is being shoved toward chaos—with total indifference toward what the final outcome might be.

Fishermen are churning up the river, stirring it all the way down to the very foundation stones.
Will their nets be filled with fish, or with mud?
In the blink of an eye—from yesterday to today, or perhaps from tomorrow to yesterday—we have shifted from debating a universal wage or income to returning to mandatory military service.
Democracy has become even more devalued than money; where, then, can we find a true store of value?

On October 8th, the Swedish Academy announced that Canadian author Anne Carson would be awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. Seeking to understand the significance of such a distinguished honor, I chose one of her works for my review. I am often surprised by authors who aren't on my radar. As an avid reader, I know how difficult it is to keep up with every celebrated name while balancing daily life and seeking out emerging voices.

Today, I read Norma Jeane Baker of Troy, a theatrical monologue that uses Euripides' tragedy of Helen of Troy as a foundation to critique the role of women in history. The work fuses the legendary Spartan queen with Marilyn Monroe (the pseudonym of the iconic Hollywood star) into a poetic, satirical journey that borders on the comic: a scathing indictment of how society treats women.

I found it hard to categorize this piece. It also revealed my own gaps in knowledge regarding Western culture; I have now added Euripides’ original work to my list to further explore the depths Carson touches upon. Another striking element was the generational gap. Norma Jeane Baker was a household name for my parents and grandparents. Her images, her films, and the rumors surrounding her affair with JFK were staples of pop culture. I imagine the mythical Helen generated similar fervor at the end of the Bronze Age. Today’s "Centennials" might find it hard to relate to Helen in Nolan's The Odyssey, and many likely wouldn't know who Ms. Baker was—wife of Joe DiMaggio and mistress to a fallen president.

Is it recommended? Yes, but if you want to truly savor the experience at first glance, I suggest doing some background research first. A brief biography of both icons—the mythological and the modern—would provide the necessary context to appreciate their striking parallels.

Overall, it is a delightful read. Ms. Carson’s writing is exquisite (and the Spanish translation was superb), showcasing an enviable erudition and a sharp, cultured mind.

Finally, a brief note on the translator, Jeannette Clariond, from Chihuahua, Mexico. Beyond being Anne Carson's primary Spanish translator, she is an accomplished novelist and poet whose work, such as Ante un cuerpo desnudo, has won prestigious awards.

I have always held both male and female poets in equal admiration.

No había término medio.

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmYBpaxW6uXEdPWSU7v2jr1qXnUSMqYdMQcuB5dU52dazb/q1.jpg)

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmWVrjAh1136gpJMNLmaqNNsxhyi511KjQecg4u5mr1si7/q3.jpg)

En el mundo anglosajón existe una frase muy usada: to be on the other side of the fence.

This is my contribution to @mipiano’s challenge for September. It might seem like an early post, since September is still almost a year away, but that’s not the case. I’m a month late, but here’s my post dedicated to towels. Link

It wasn’t easy to put this collection together, but here it is.

Switzerland / Suiza

This collection could have been very different. Until just a few months ago, my mom still had a few towels that had made their way to Spain from Switzerland more than 50 years ago.

A unique set of towels, almost all in shades of blue, that had long, long ago ceased to serve the purpose for which they were designed: to dry. Rather, over the decades, they had turned into a set of cotton sandpaper sheets that didn’t dry at all, but scraped like crazy.

Perhaps they would have had another chance at life if someone had tried using them for other purposes, such as exfoliants, or if they had served as DIY tools. I can imagine polishing a piece of wooden furniture with one of those towels, stiff as a board.

You might wonder why these useless objects, which take up space, were part of the family for so many years… The answer lies in the memories that still lived on in them… some from long ago… a long time ago, in a country far, far away…

The next two towels are beach towels, although they have never been laid out on the kind of fine-grained sand typical of the coast, nor have they been lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves, nor have they felt the gentle caress of the sea breeze.

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it’s time to pause and reflect. Mark Twain

These towels aren’t just part of this collection—they’re also part of a much larger collection dedicated to Atlético de Madrid.

I can’t deny that I feel a certain pride in being part of the third generation of a family with a long tradition of supporting Atlético.

Spring

Where do the clouds that don’t drench us go?

The lead-gray canopy dissipates, and now we see the stragglers racing swiftly toward the west.

Those that do not release their rain along the way will arrive heavy with water, destined to collide with the mountain range.

The most beautiful of the seasons has arrived right on time—the long-awaited cousin to the winter past and the summer yet to come. Far removed from the nostalgic autumn, it has not arrived alone this year; it is accompanied by a boy and a girl whose parentage is a matter of some debate.
Some say they hail from the Pacific, but looking at these two little ones, I have my doubts. They bear a certain family resemblance to the southern Atlantic.
Regardless, nature has welcomed the season with its customary, effortless joy; birds dwelling among the high-rises trill and sing from the flowering trees, even before the sun peeks through. The lapacho trees don a pink mantle, preceding the purple bloom of the jacarandas.

The verdant ground refuses to be outdone; while the ferns revel in the moisture, the grass adorns itself with the humblest of tiny flowers.

Hedges and gardens are adorned with a fresh array of colors—new leaves and early fruits, though I suspect the latter are not edible.

Dandelions brighten the ground with their neon-like buds.

Meanwhile, we wait for the havoc wrought by El Niño and La Niña—felt everywhere—to come to an end. Across mountain ranges and plains, along both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, from north to south, Mother Nature brings us landslides and floods, as if trying to remind us of something.
