Whenever I come across flowers, I find myself stopping to admire them and take a few pictures. I love how different each flower looks, from tiny buds that are still waiting to bloom to flowers that are already showing off their beautiful colors. Today, I wanted to share some flower pictures I have collected. This collection features lovely shades of yellow, pink, orange, red, and white.

Warm, Sun-Kissed Orange : This was a beautiful orange dahlia in full bloom, with a rich, prominent center. I simply loved its cheerful burst of color!

Two Peach-Colored Roses : These two fully bloomed peach-colored roses were growing side by side. Their delicate, ruffled petals made them look especially beautiful.

Soft Yellow Petals Opening : These soft yellow petals were slowly beginning to unfold, revealing the beauty hidden within the buds. One of the buds was covered in tiny water droplets that glistened beautifully in the morning light.

खिलती हुई पीली पंखुड़ियाँ : पीले रंग की ये कोमल पंखुड़ियाँ धीरे-धीरे खुलने लगी थीं और कलियों के भीतर छिपी सुंदरता को सामने ला रही थीं। इनमें से एक कली पर पानी की छोटी-छोटी बूँदें थीं, जो सुबह की रोशनी में खूबसूरती से चमक रही थीं।

Dancing Against the Sky : Looking up from below, I captured a deep magenta flower against the clear blue sky, with the hills forming a beautiful background. The contrast between the flower and the sky made this picture stand out.

A Striking Red Bloom : This deep red flower was also covered in tiny water droplets. Its rich color stood out beautifully against the surrounding green grass.

A Busy Bee at Work : This white flower, with its golden center, had a little visitor busy collecting pollen. It was lovely to capture this small moment of nature at work.

काम में व्यस्त एक छोटी मधुमक्खी : सुनहरे मध्य भाग वाले इस सफेद फूल पर एक छोटी-सी मधुमक्खी पराग इकट्ठा करने में व्यस्त थी। प्रकृति के इस छोटे-से पल को तस्वीर में कैद करना बहुत अच्छा लगा।

Ram Ram, Namaste to all Hive users. I hope everyone is doing well and having a wonderful time. Today I am going to share my thoughts on "The Reality of Students life in India". Being a student is not just about going school, attending classes, completing homework, and preparing for examinations. There is a lot more behind a student's life that people forget to notice.

Every student has their own dreams, goals, and challenges. Some students want to become doctors, engineers, teachers, or business owners, while others are still trying to discover what they truly want to do in life. But there is one problem: many students have the pressure to score well in academics.

In India, marks and percentages are considered the biggest measure of a student's success. After every exam, neighbours and relatives ask the students' percentage. They make fun of them and compare them with other students. Even parents also compare their students with other students; the parents do not understand the potential of their child.

Of course, getting good marks is important. We all want to do well and make our parents proud. But sometimes, the pressure of scoring good marks makes studying feel more like a competition than a way to learn something new.

Students' lives should be about learning, making friends, enjoying small moments, making mistakes, and preparing for the future: "do not run for marks; run for knowledge". So I want to say that "STUDY HARD" and Don't worry; just do your best.

After leaving it on the balcony for several days under the rain and humidity, I watched as my little plant slowly died. I was on the verge of losing it.It used to be so beautiful, but I never took a photo of it, and since it requires so little care, I didn't stop to think about what might happen if it got wet every day.Luckily, I noticed what was happening in time and started giving it more attention. Today, it's slowly recovering. My succulent has given me a second chance, I think 😁.

Antes era muy hermosa, pero nunca la fotografié y como requiere de pocos cuidados no me detuve a pensar en lo que podría pasarle si se mojaba todos los días. Mientras que los humanos tenemos unos 5 millones de receptores olfativos, los perros poseen hasta 300 millones. Esta asombrosa capacidad les permite "oler" cambios químicos invisibles en nuestro cuerpo, convirtiéndose en verdaderos bio-detectores capaces de salvar vidas.

🧬 ¿Cómo funciona?

Las enfermedades modifican el metabolismo celular de nuestro cuerpo. Cuando esto ocurre, liberamos compuestos químicos específicos llamados Compuestos Orgánicos Volátiles (COV) a través del aliento, el sudor, la orina o la sangre.

Did you know that man's best friend can also be his best health ally? Today I want to share a fascinating topic that I discovered in a documentary a few days ago.

While humans have about 5 million olfactory receptors, dogs possess up to 300 million. This amazing ability allows them to "smell" invisible chemical changes in our bodies, turning them into true life-saving bio-detectors.

🧬 How does it work?

Diseases alter our body's cellular metabolism. When this happens, we release specific chemical compounds called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) through our breath, sweat, urine, or blood.

Dogs do not smell the disease itself, but rather these specific VOCs. Their nose is capable of separating scents and identifying concentrations as low as one part per trillion. To put it into perspective: that is the equivalent of finding a single drop of blood in the water of 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools!

🏥 Diseases that dogs can "smell"

Cancer: This is the most studied field. They can detect lung, prostate, breast, or colon cancer with high accuracy.
Diabetes: Medical service dogs detect the change in odor in sweat or breath when sugar levels fluctuate dangerously, warning their owner before a fainting spell.

[TV] The Heirs (2013): Review

I have watched "The Heirs** before, but decided to rewatch it last night. The story followed Kim Tan (Lee Min-ho), the son of a wealthy business family. From the outside, his life looked perfect. He had money, attended an elite school, and belonged to a family with great influence. However, his life was far from peaceful. His family had expectations for him, and his relationship with his older brother was complicated. Despite having almost everything money could provide, Kim Tan still struggled with loneliness and the desire to make his own decisions.

Things became more interesting when he met Cha Eun-sang (Park Shin-hye), a young woman from a humble background who had her own problems to deal with. Unlike Kim Tan, Eun-sang did not have the privilege of living comfortably without worrying about money. Her circumstances brought her into a world where she had to deal with people who believed that their wealth made them better than others.

As their relationship developed, their differences became a major challenge. Kim Tan's feelings for Eun-sang were not enough to make everyone accept their relationship. Family expectations, social class, and the opinions of other people constantly stood in their way. Watching them struggle to be together made me realise how difficult love could become when people outside the relationship believed they had the right to decide who someone should love.

One thing I particularly liked about this movie was how it showed that wealth did not automatically bring happiness. The rich students attended prestigious schools and enjoyed privileges that many people could only dream of, yet some of them were dealing with family problems, emotional pain, and pressure to meet expectations. Their lives looked beautiful on the outside, but there was a lot happening beneath the surface.

Kim Tan's character was interesting because he was caught between his family's wishes and his own desires. He wanted to be accepted and loved without having every part of his life controlled by his family's wealth and influence. Cha Eun-sang, on the other hand, had to deal with the reality of being judged because of her background. Her struggles made the differences between their worlds even more obvious.

I also found Choi Young-do (Kim Woo-bin) to be an important part of the story. He was often arrogant, aggressive, and difficult to understand, especially in the way he treated other students. However, as the story progressed, there were moments that revealed his loneliness and the problems he faced at home. His complicated relationship with Kim Tan and his feelings for Eun-sang added another layer to the drama. Although his behaviour was sometimes frustrating, his character was difficult to ignore.

Of course, the series was not perfect. Some misunderstandings dragged on for too long, and there were moments when I wished the characters would communicate more honestly instead of allowing their problems to grow. Eun-sang also went through situations that made me feel sorry for her, especially when people treated her as though she was not good enough simply because she came from a poor family.

Still, the drama managed to keep its romantic and emotional appeal. The chemistry between the main characters, the friendships, the rivalries, and the soundtrack all helped make the story memorable. It also reminded me that young people can carry burdens that are not always obvious to the people around them.

For me, The movie was more than a story about a rich boy falling in love with a poor girl. It was also about people trying to find their own voices in families and environments where their choices were often made for them. It explored the difference between having everything money could buy and having the freedom to live the life one truly wanted.

For Me The Heirs was an enjoyable Korean romantic drama with emotional moments, memorable characters, and enough family conflict to keep viewers interested. Despite its predictable moments, it remains a good choice for anyone who enjoys stories about love, social differences, friendship, and complicated family relationships.

An exhibition dedicated to Cuban Culture opened last Saturday at the Guanabacoa Art Gallery. Although I couldn't attend the opening gala, I believe the showcase is not only valuable, but also deeply interesting.

One of the most important sections features paintings by two artists with the surname Martínez de la Cotera; both manage to perfectly capture what old Guanabacoa used to look like, with precise brushstrokes and colors. This deeply impressed the older adults who were viewing the artworks while I was there, as they were able to identify parts of the town that no longer exist today, but remain alive on the canvases.

Through painting and photography, this exhibition manages to preserve traditional streets, places, and establishments; this serves as a fundamental record before they deteriorate completely due to time and the lack of interest and resources from municipal governments.

Furthermore, the exhibition takes us on a journey through our history as Cubans, from our beginnings to the present day: featuring handwritten fragments of the famous song "La Bayamesa" in front of a colonial window, quotes by José Martí, and the inclusion of household items such as aluminum pots and homemade charcoal stoves.

Many families use these items to cook nowadays due to the severe energy crisis, and the artists have brought our daily reality into an art gallery 😱.

Various artistic expressions come together in the gallery hall; however, the creators' purpose is crystal clear: it is a form of critique and protest regarding who we were and what we have become. It aims to reflect the regression of our country, which, amidst so much beauty, leaves a truly heartbreaking message.

FICTION. MY GRANDFHATER'S GOURD (ENG-ESP)

Many years ago, when my family lived in the countryside, my grandfather used to make handcrafted ornaments for my grandmother with his own hands because he loved making her happy. When they moved to the city—long before I was born—my mother only brought with her the last object he ever crafted while alive: a dried pumpkin decorated to ward off evil spirits.

The first time I lied to my parents, the bulging eyes and mocking smirk carved into that dried pumpkin seemed to come to life. It terrified me so much that I never lied to them again in my life.

For my parents, looking too closely at the object brings them sorrow, as it reminds them of my late grandfather. Even though five years have already passed, I sometimes catch my mother hiding away to cry while looking at his portraits.

My name is Elías Flores Campos. I am my parents' only child and, according to the elders, the spitting image of my grandfather. But I wonder what his true purpose was in leaving us with his spirit-repelling pumpkin, which on this dark October night hasn't stopped emitting a reddish light, even though it has never had a lit candle inside it.

The pumpkin creaked the moment my father answered my mother about what he did yesterday morning. They didn't notice because they were focused on their dinner and usual conversation, but I did, because from this side of the dining table I can see it sitting in its corner of the living room, on top of the purple stool, very close to the front door.

—What do you usually do so early at work, Dad?

—Catching up on my pending tasks.

I asked him simply to see how the object would behave, and to my surprise, it was right during my dad's answer that a reddish light flickered to life inside it. I shifted nervously at the table, so much so that I almost knocked over my nearly full plate when I reflexively pulled the tablecloth downward. I looked at my father in fear. That made me remember how, when I was a child, the way he sometimes acted used to frighten me. There was even a time when I thought he was an alien.

—What’s wrong with you? —my mother asked me, her spoon full of rice suspended in midair, just about to enter her mouth.

I shook my head and looked back at Dad. He avoided my gaze and refocused on his plate of food.

—Can’t you two see it? —I asked them, pointing with my chin toward my grandfather’s ancient ornament.

The light inside was flashing with increasing intensity. When my mother saw it, she gasped and stood up from the table.

—Have you been lying to me again? —she shouted at my father.

He didn't even look up to meet her gaze; he merely said:

—Of course not...

At that moment, the cracking sound of the pumpkin shell intensified; it felt as though human bones were snapping inside, making our hair stand on end until the shadows of the eyes and the mocking smile projected on the wall grew larger and more terrifying.

—Confess, before it’s too late.

Hearing those pleading words from my mother made me fear the worst. I jumped up and forced my father to turn and see what was happening behind his back.

The light became glowing red, and the carved face slowly began to change its expression.

—What’s going to happen, Mom?

She looked at me in horror, her eyes brimming with tears. It felt as if at any moment the pumpkin would explode and set our house on fire with us trapped inside.

—Nothing is going to happen, son —my dad assured me, standing up from his chair.

—Have you been lying to me again? —Mom asked.

—You’re right, I have been lying to you. I’ve been hiding from you what I really do in the mornings, and I’m sorry.

My father confessed, and the pumpkin's light went out instantly.

Suddenly, calm returned to the dining room. Ashamed, my dad told us that he had been losing money to an old vice my mom thought he had forgotten all about: playing cards. The tension of the moment subsided, but the feeling of betrayal and pain between my parents did not vanish.

I approached the object that once belonged to my grandfather and tried to guess what kind of protective energy had created it. Then, I noticed a tiny new crack on its face; leaning in closer, I saw dozens more. It wasn't the first time something like this had happened. I looked at my parents and wondered how many ups and downs their marriage had been through to leave so many scars on the object: adult problems I had never suspected they had. I looked closely at the pumpkin's smile—a chilling grin, ready for the next time.

We provide one weekly writing prompt for short story writers. You may choose to use the prompt to write a fictional story (made up from your imagination) or a creative nonfiction story (based on your real-life experiences).

IMPORTANT: To be considered for curation, you must include one of these tags on your post:

Fictional stories: #fiction
Creative nonfiction stories: #creativenonfiction

You must also read and comment on the work of two other community members. Remember: We look for this when we curate your story. If we don't see this engagement, we will either provide a reminder or skip curating your post.

It is also very helpful to the admin team when authors add Fiction or Creative Nonfiction (or CNF for short) to the story title!

Remember that we are always about quality first. Never about quantity. To achieve awards in The Ink Well, take the time to write quality stories and check them for errors. See the topic of the month, "Don't Miss This Step" in the March 2025 newsletter to learn about using tools (and using them properly) if you are not already doing this. We do notice when you don't take the time!

@gabmr offers an unconventional science fiction story that deals with a number of evolving issues. Think the Matrix, or Running Man, but go beyond that. A young man describes a nightmarish environment in which people dance with each other in a way that seems more predatory than social. We assume these are people, anyway. By the end of the story we wonder, as the young man discovers he himself is a cyborg. The story is complicated, and it may take a second read to pick up all the clues, but they are there. It's a disquieting piece, without having any overt signs of horror. Beautifully written.

Short Story Writing Prompt of the Week

This week's prompt is: "Spooky."

Halloween is nearly here, and for those of you who take delight in celebrating this annual ode to all that is frightening, it is your time to shine!

There are many things you can do with this prompt. Write a spooky tale of fear and fright, whether it's about jack-o-lanterns that come to life, a tale of the supernatural that will strike fear in the hearts of readers like the classic tale of the headless horseman in Sleepy Hollow , or a tale of spooky encounters on Halloween night.
