It is soup season, and lately I have been making a soup almost every other day. The kind that is full of vitamins and warmth, and the kids cannot get enough of them.

This golden chicken and vegetable soup is one of my favorites right now. It starts with a homemade chicken broth, which is so good for you, gentle on the stomach and a real comfort when anyone is feeling run down. The texture sits right in the middle, part chunky and diced, part smooth and creamy, so you get the best of both. And it beats those fast packet soups by a mile, no strange powders, just real food. My two little secrets are a few green cardamom pods in the broth and a spoon of turmeric for that warm golden color.

For the chicken broth:
• Chicken thighs or leg quarters, skin-on and bone-in🍗
• Water, enough to cover the chicken
• 1 onion, halved🧅
• A few green cardamom pods
• 1 cinnamon stick
• 1 dried lime, if you can find it
• 1 star anise, if you can find it
• 2 bay leaves

For the soup:
• 1 onion, finely diced🧅
• Carrots, peeled and diced🥕
• Potatoes, peeled and diced🥔
• Zucchini, diced
• Green peas
• Optional: a handful of small broccoli florets🥦
• 1 tbsp turmeric
• 1 tbsp salt, or to taste🧂
• No oil or butter needed, the chicken thighs give off enough natural fat

To serve:
• Fresh lemon, for squeezing🍋

Salt is to taste, so start with about a tablespoon and adjust at the end. The turmeric is really for color and a gentle warmth, one tablespoon is plenty. The cardamom only goes into the broth and comes out later, so you get the aroma without biting into a pod. The cinnamon stick, dried lime, and star anise are optional. They go into the broth for extra warmth and depth, and they all lift out when you strain it.

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

Step by step / Paso a paso

Step 1 / Paso 1: Make the chicken broth / Prepara el caldo de pollo

English

Español

Put the chicken thighs into a large pot and cover them with water. Add the halved onion, the bay leaves, the green cardamom pods, the cinnamon stick, the dried lime, and the star anise. Bring it to a boil, skim off any foam that rises to the top, then lower the heat and let it simmer until the chicken is tender and cooked through.

Did you know that on Hive, the top 1% of accounts hold 95.7% of all the Hive Power? Or that just 25 accounts hold almost 42% of the entire chain between them?

Most people never get to see numbers like these. But you can, in a few seconds and for free, on HiveScan.

This is the next piece in my series about HiveScan, the Hive block explorer that turns the whole blockchain into clear, readable reports that anyone can use. Today I am looking at one report I find hard to look away from, HP Distribution, and it answers a question many of us quietly wonder about. How concentrated is Hive's wealth, really?

A quick reminder first. Hive Power (HP) is your stake. It is what gives your vote its weight and your account its influence. So looking at how HP is spread is really a way of seeing where the power on Hive sits. Let me show you what HiveScan reveals.

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

Where to find it on HiveScan

On hivescan.info, HP Distribution comes ready on the Governance board, in the section called "Where the stake sits."

And if you want it on your own board, you can add it in seconds. Open the widget library (the add button on your dashboard), look for HP Distribution, and drop it wherever you like. That is the whole point of HiveScan, you keep the reports that matter to you in one place.

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

What this report shows

At the time I looked, HiveScan counted 1,189,014 accounts on Hive. HP Distribution sorts all of them into brackets by how much HP they hold, and lets you read it three ways with one toggle:

% Accounts, how many accounts fall into each bracket

% HP, how much of all the Hive Power each bracket actually controls

Lorenz, the inequality curve

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

The three numbers at the top, explained

HiveScan shows three quick figures above the chart. Here is what each one means.

Gini: 0.99. This is a single score for inequality. 0 would mean everyone holds exactly the same, and 1 would mean one account holds everything. At 0.99, Hive's stake is about as concentrated as it can get.

Top 1%: 95.7%. The top 1% of accounts hold 95.7% of all the Hive Power.

Top 10%: 99.3%. Widen it to the top 10% and you reach 99.3%. Which means everyone else, the other 90% of accounts, shares what is left.

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

Reading the brackets

This is where it really comes alive, because the two views tell opposite sides of the same story.

In the % Accounts view:

73.14% of all accounts hold 0-1 HP

13.85% hold 1-10 HP

10.43% hold 10-100 HP

So nearly 97 out of every 100 accounts are small.

Now flip to the % HP view and look at the big end:

The 1M+ HP bracket holds 41.83% of all Hive Power, and that is just 25 accounts, about 90.8M HP between them

100K-1M HP holds another 27.09%

10K-100K HP holds 17.10%

So the smallest brackets are almost everyone but hold almost nothing, and a tiny handful of accounts hold most of the chain. HiveScan lets you see that flip in two clicks.

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

Hover over any bar for the real numbers

HiveScan does not stop at percentages. Hover your mouse over any bar and it tells you exactly what sits behind it, the real account count, the total HP held, and both shares at once.

A couple that stopped me:

Hover the 0-1 HP bar and you see 869,699 accounts hold under 1 HP, and together that whole group is just 0.17% of all Hive Power, about 371.1K HP.

Hover the 10-100 HP bar and it is 124,026 accounts, holding 1.85% of all HP, around 4M HP between them.
Seeing the actual counts, not just the bars, is what made the scale of it click for me.

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

## The Lorenz view
The Lorenz view draws it as a curve. The straight diagonal is perfect equality. The real line stays almost flat along the bottom and then shoots straight up at the very end. The further it bows away from the diagonal, the more concentrated things are, and on Hive it bows about as hard as a curve can.

Hi everyone, it is Dima here. On those grey autumn days, when the flu starts knocking on everyone's door and the kids come home from school carrying a whole bunch of new viruses, there is one thing I always reach for, a big pot of warm lentil soup. 🍲

It is simple, it is comforting, and it uses very basic things from the kitchen, lentils, tomato🍅, carrot 🥕and potato 🥔, turned into a smooth cozy bowl. The best part is that lentils are cheap and easy to find almost anywhere in the world, so this is a truly global soup that nearly everyone can make, wherever they are. I make it for my family of six as a light lunch on its own, or as a starter before a bigger meal. The kids love it with a big squeeze of lemon on top, and it is exactly what everyone wants when they are feeling a little under the weather. I am still fairly new to this community, so thank you for having me.

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

Ingredients / Ingredientes

English

Español

• 1.5 cups small brown lentils (small red lentils work too)
• 1 large onion
• 2 large carrots
• 1 medium potato
• 2 whole tomatoes (unpeeled)
• Ground cumin, to taste
• Salt, to taste
• 1 to 2 tbsp butter or olive oil, for cooking and finishing

To serve:
• A fresh lemon, for squeezing
• Croutons or toasted bread cubes

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

A note on salt and spices / Una nota sobre la sal y las especias

English

Español

Salt is really to taste here, so start light and add more at the end once the soup is blended. Cumin is the main spice in this one, so add it little by little until it smells warm and cozy. The lemon at the end is not optional for me, that bright squeeze is what makes the whole bowl come alive.

⋆ ⋅ 💎 ⋅ ⋆

Step by step / Paso a paso

Step 1 / Paso 1: Build the flavor base / Arma la base de sabor

English

Español

Peel the carrots and potato, then chop them together with the onion into rough pieces. Add a little butter or oil to a deep pot over medium heat and put in the onion, carrots, potato and the whole tomatoes, skins left on, you will take the tomato skins off later. Sauté everything gently with a pinch of salt and some cumin. Softening the vegetables first brings out their natural sweetness and gives the soup a richer base.

Step 2 / Paso 2: Add the lentils / Agrega las lentejas

Up to now I have mostly been writing over in the Ladies of Hive community, Hive Food, and I am also a developer.

I am starting a little series of articles about HiveScan. It is a product built right here on Hive, and I do not think enough people know about it yet. My goal with these posts is simple, to help you see what it can do and to get you using it.

So let me show you why it will win you over.

When people hear the words "block explorer" they usually picture something very technical. Blocks, transactions, raw data. A lot of developers actually want it to stay that way, as simple and plain as possible, and they are not always fans of all the designs and dashboards on top.

HiveScan took a different road. Instead of a tool for one type of person, it grew into a platform built for many types of Hive users at once. Developers still get their clean technical view. But content creators, investors, witnesses, and curious data lovers all get something made for them too.

Let me walk you through what each person gets here.

─── ⋆⋅ 💎 ⋅⋆ ───

For Content Creators

If you blog or create, you already know that followers alone tell you almost nothing. You want the real picture. HiveScan has a ready made Creator board that brings your whole creator life onto one screen:

Content & Activity, your posts, comments, and votes over time

Community Activity, which communities you are most active in

Top Posts, your best performing work

Pending Rewards, what is still coming to you

Social Interactions, who actually engages with you, not just who follows

Notifications and a quick account snapshot

The Network around me reports

.

─── ⋆⋅ 💎 ⋅⋆ ───

For investors and market watchers

If you care about the money side, there is a Market board with the tools for it:

Your Hive Power and how it is moving

Account value and balances in one place

Live market data and prices

Top Holders, the rich list

HP Distribution, how the stake is spread across the network

─── ⋆⋅ 💎 ⋅⋆ ───

For witnesses

Witnesses get a Governance board made for them:

The witness schedule and who is producing blocks

Votes and vote weight

Proposals and the ones you are watching

Where the stake sits

There are two boards for this crowd.

The Network board is all about the health of the chain:

Hello again, Hive Food community 👋

Today I am sharing one of my easy, go-to dinners. It is a roasted chicken and vegetable tray bake, and it is one of those meals that makes everyone at my table happy. It is healthy, it is colorful, and the best part is that it almost cooks itself. You just marinate everything, put it in the oven, and let it do the work.

I love to make this on a busy Monday. There are only a few quick prep steps, then the oven does all the work. In no time you have a warm, super healthy dinner on the table with almost no effort. My little family of six loves it, and I think yours will too.

─── ⋆⋅ 💎 ⋅⋆ ───

🛒 Ingredients / Ingredientes

Ingredients

Ingredientes

The chicken:
• Boneless chicken thighs (as much as your family needs)

The loaded veggies:
• Green flat beans or snow peas, chopped
• Whole button mushrooms
• Broccoli florets
• Carrots, sliced
• Zucchini, chopped
• Potatoes, cubed

The creamy marinade:
• 1 generous scoop of yogurt
• 1 to 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
• 1 tablespoon of mustard
• 2 tablespoons of white vinegar
• Paprika, garlic powder, and salt, to taste

Two little notes:
• The yogurt and white vinegar are not just for taste. They make the chicken really soft and tender.
• Some people add oil, but I do not. The thighs already have their own fat and release it while cooking, so you do not need any.

🧂 A note on the spices / Una nota sobre las especias

Español

I keep it simple here with paprika, garlic powder and salt. Add them to taste, a little more if you like it strong, a little less if you like it mild. The yogurt and mustard already give a lot of flavor, so you do not need much.

Heat your oven to 180°C. Wash, peel, and chop all your vegetables into bite-sized pieces.

I love almost everything about it. The warm colors all around, the oranges, the reds and the golds. The weather that is not too hot and not too cold, just right. The soft, cloudy skies that feel so cozy. And of course, a warm bowl of pumpkin soup on a grey afternoon. There is also something about these cloudy days that makes all kids so happy and playful. So I was really glad to see this month's fun questions. Here are my two answers.

If I went to the Masquerade, I would be Xena, the Warrior Princess.

For anyone who does not know her, Xena was the star of an old TV show called Xena: Warrior Princess. It was on in the 90's for six seasons and it stayed rolling for a decade on TV channels. It began as a spin-off of the show Hercules, and then became very famous on its own. Xena was played by a New Zealand actress named Lucy Lawless. She is about 58 years old now. Time goes so fast.

In the show, Xena used to be a bad warlord. Then she changed and became good. In every episode she tried to make up for the bad things she had done. She fought for good, protected weak people, and stopped bad warlords, gods, and monsters. She traveled with her best friend Gabrielle. She was amazing with a sword, and she threw a round weapon called a chakram. She also had a famous battle cry that all the kids tried to copy.

As a little girl, I loved her so much. I looked up to her much more than any pretty princess. Other girls wanted the crown, but I wanted the power. I wanted to be a strong girl who could protect people, stop the bad ones, and maybe even have my own little team doing good in the world.

Now, about actually looking like her... let us be honest haha. The leather dress, the boots, the chakram, I could put all of that together today. The hair? Long and dark, I think I can do that too. But that strong, fit warrior body? No, I do not think that is happening anymore haha. The dress is easy, but the abs are long gone.

Back then I could never find a Xena costume anywhere, so I never got to be her. So if this masquerade ever happens, this is finally my chance. I would come as the warrior I always wanted to be, with the armor, the boots, and the battle cry. My body has changed over the years, but the little girl who wanted to be strong and protect everyone is still right here.

─── ⋆⋅ 💎 ⋅⋆ ───

**If I were a famous singer**
Okay, drop the shower brush, time for my singing dream.

If I were a singer, I would sing soft, slow songs. The emotional kind that make you close your eyes and sway. Two of my favorites are "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol and "Fix You" by Coldplay. You know the line, "lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones"? That part gives me chills every time. So think a whole show full of calm, emotional songs like those.

I am still new here, so I do not know many people yet. I hope that soon I can make more bands with other Hive friends too. But for now, here is my little dream group.

First, @elizabethbit💇. She would be our hair and style girl. She has not paid for a haircut in many years and cuts her whole family's hair, so she would keep us all looking good on stage haha.

Then @kerrislravenhill 🤘🤘. This part is my favorite. Kerris used to be a "Death Metal Queen," so putting her in a soft, calm band would be so funny. I bring the calm, she brings the noise. She would probably add a rock growl to every slow song haha.

And last, @silversaver888🤑 So she would be our money keeper. Any coins the fans throw on stage, she would grab them all fast and turn them into silver and gold haha.

We would be a strange and funny little band, but I think people would love us.

I will be honest with you from the very first spoon: a bowl of this deep green stew is not the prettiest thing you will ever see. It is thick, a little slippery, and if you have never come across it before, it can honestly look a bit strange, maybe even a little scary 🤣. But do not let that fool you, because this humble green bowl is pure comfort.

It is made from jute leaves, and I am cooking it here the Middle Eastern way, where the dish is known as mloukhieh. I will admit, it is not something we eat all the time, more of an occasional treat, maybe once every three months or so. My grandmother used to cook it beautifully, though funnily enough my own mother was never that fond of it. So it was always a special, every-now-and-then kind of dish, which somehow makes it feel even more comforting when it finally lands on the table. Today I am inviting you to look past the color and give it a real chance.

The real star of this dish is a leafy green called jute mallow. It goes by a surprising number of names depending on where you are in the world, including Egyptian spinach and simply jute leaves.

What I love is that this little leaf is adored far beyond one region. Across much of Africa it is a genuinely popular everyday vegetable. In Nigeria it is known as ewedu, in Ghana as ayoyo, and in Kenya as murere or mrenda. The plant thrives in warm climates, so it grows happily in many parts of Africa. If you are somewhere like Cape Town, you may even find it growing locally rather than frozen on a shop shelf.

And nutritionally? Think of it as spinach's greener, heartier cousin. "Egyptian spinach" is no exaggeration, these leaves are loaded with iron, fiber, and vitamins A, C and K, plus calcium and antioxidants. Good for your blood, your digestion, your bones and your immunity. Comfort food that quietly loves you back.

¿Y a nivel nutricional?

The assumptions people make about me

Honestly, I am not good at first impressions. And I do not mean just once, it happens to me all the time. There is something about the way I walk into a room that makes people assume I have a big ego, that I somehow think I am above everyone else.

The funny thing is, I am the complete opposite. Anyone who actually gets to know me will tell you I am one of the most humble people they know. I help others whenever I can, I am fun to be around, and I am the type who gets excited over the smallest things, I can get high on anything.

It shows up everywhere. In the professional world, people see me walk in and read me as strong and serious, and I get told all the time that I know exactly what I want. Among the moms at my kids' school, I apparently come across as tough. I am not sure if it is my super black eyebrows giving me a permanent serious look, or simply that my mind is always busy somewhere else, so I am not really aware of my surroundings unless I make the effort to be.

Honestly, it used to make me feel misunderstood, even a little hurt. It is a strange thing to be read as the exact opposite of who you really are. The way I dealt with it was to slowly stop taking it so personally. I reminded myself that the people who truly matter always end up seeing the real me, and I let that be enough.

But lately I am also doing something about it. After moving my children to a new school, I decided to soften that first impression on purpose. So now I smile more, I try to be more present and aware of the people around me, and I am slowly building new friendships with the other moms. It turns out a simple smile goes a long way.

─── ⋆⋅ 💎 ⋅⋆ ───

## How my favorite color has changed
I really believe our love for colors is tied to our emotions, and mine has shifted with the different phases of my life.

There was a time I was completely obsessed with red. And I mean obsessed, my whole bedroom ended up red. Then came my university years, when I was all about hot pink and anything phosphorescent, the glowier the better. And whenever I hit a really calm, peaceful stretch of life, I find myself quietly drawn to white.

But through all of it, I have always had my constants: shades of blue, purple and teal. Those are the ones that never leave me. I love them at night and during the day, when I am happy and when I am sad, I loved them when I was younger and I still love them now that I am older. They feel the most like me no matter what phase I am in, and I think that is exactly why they became my forever favorites.

So I suppose I am a bit of a contradiction. Tough on the outside but soft once you know me, ever-changing in my colors but always finding my way back to blue. And honestly, I am slowly learning to be okay with all of it.
