pexels

As a twin, while growing up, I thought my twin sister and I were sworn enemies from a past life. We always had disagreements, argued over things that were unnecessary, and even insulted one another to the extent that it became a competition of who could insult the most.

We argue over bath soap, sponge, clothes, especially when it's the same pattern and colour, both of us would want the nearest clothes, we argue over who suoposed to cook, sweep, do chores that sometimes we provoke our parent who either punish us for making too much noise and disturbing them or he ask us to go outside the house and continue our argument there.

No matter how hard I tried, she always won. I didn't know how to fight with words, nor could I engage someone in a feast competition; I'm sure I would be the loser already.

There was a particular day when I came back from school, back when we were in secondary school. I had begged her to come with me to the fellowship, but all to no avail; she went home, leaving me behind. I didn't mind anyway; it wasn't the first time she missed the school fellowship. I had to go that day too because I was one of the contestants in the Bible quiz competition.

The quiz went well, and my team won. We received a prize as well, and I felt joyful; however, everyone began to ask after my twin sister. I could see how disappointed they were to hear that she was not there to cheer me on. I smiled it off anyway.

When I got home, I reported what my sister did, and she apologized on her behalf but scolded her for being irrational. Instead of admitting to her wrong, she kept making excuses. "It's a lie! I told you that I was having a headache; that is why I left you at school," my sister denied. I tried to prove her wrong, but there was no way and no one to defend me as a witness.

One hot afternoon, my twin sister left me behind at school. I wasn't feeling well, so I was walking slowly. We used to trek to and from school every day unless we were lucky enough to see a good Samaritan who would assist us to our street with their bike or car.

CHATGPT

Nevertheless, my twin sister began to scold me, shouting that I should walk faster or she would leave me behind. I got angry and told her to go, that I couldn't continue. We exchanged a few words of insistence before she finally left in annoyance.

I sat on a rock by the roadside, under a mango tree, while watching my sister go without looking back. I was so mad at her that I even cried because I felt betrayed, unloved, and sick.

After a few minutes, I managed to stand up, and as I took a few steps forward, a voice called me from behind. When I looked back, I saw a young lady; she greeted me, and I responded.

Then she said I should not encourage arguments with my twin sister again but keep the peace always because if we keep fighting each other, things might not go well with our parents. "You should stop fighting each other because you don't know what tomorrow will bring for both of you," the lady said. Her countenance was sad, but I didn't say anything about it.

It seemed we were the only people in that area because everywhere was quiet. I appreciated her and started to go, but then I wanted to ask her name and where I could locate her. To my surprise, no one was there. She was gone. I just took a step forward, and when I turned back, she was gone. I got so afraid that I began to run home.

When I told my mum, she didn't believe me, and there was no witness to validate my claims, so I stopped bothering myself, even though the picture is still clear in my head. After two days, my mum went to greet a friend who had lost one of her twins.

I accompanied my mum there. I was shocked when I saw the other twin. They were identical; she resembled the lady who spoke to me a few days ago. "Excuse me, Aunty, are you the one I met a few days ago on my way home from school?" I asked politely. "No, I don't know anyone here because I don't live here," she responded.

I was stunned; I must have seen a ghost that day, who was also a twin. I told my mum when we got home. She said the other twin sister lived here and died after giving birth the same day I told her my twin sister left me behind. I had no witnesses, but I believed what I believed: that lady I saw was a ghost.

One of the most difficult tasks is house chores, especially washing dishes and clothes, and cleaning the toilet too.

I would pile up clothes like heaps until I had almost emptied my wardrobe before I would wash them. Washing bulky clothes is another issue; instead of washing all at once, I would select the ones I might use for a week or two and return the remaining ones to the laundry.

It's not easy, but I have to do it because no one would do it for me unless I pay for a laundry service.

I continued my routine until one particular morning when I was supposed to wear a white t-shirt and a black skirt to church. I was a choir member back then, so the dress code for that particular Sunday was white and black.

I thought that I had washed these clothes; therefore, I didn't bother to check whether they were neat or not.

On Sunday morning, after waking up late, I rushed to the bathroom to bathe. Then it was time to dress up, but I couldn't find my white shirt in my wardrobe. I packed all the clothes in my wardrobe and dropped them on my bed. I had littered everywhere with clothes, yet I could not find it.

So, I decided to check my laundry. Throwing every piece of clothing on the floor, I found it—my white shirt—and even the black skirt that I thought was clean.

I just sat down, packing everything back. I was frustrated; there was no way I could meet up even if I washed those clothes that morning because our Sunday service always starts at 8:00 a.m. prompt, and it was already 7:25 a.m.

My mum always knows what is going on. As usual, I would go late to church because I always look for something I misplaced every time, but this time it was a different case.

She came to my room, asking me what happened, as my room was upside down. Then I explained to her what really happened.

Then she gave me hers; you can imagine how it looked on my body. Although she was not chubby, I’m slimmer, which makes it obvious that the clothes were not mine. I used a handkerchief to clean the black skirt and sprayed perfume on it.

I ironed the shirt, used a waist belt, and everything was fitted except my sleeves; they were so big, but I wore it like that. I could not look at people's faces in the church that day to avoid their smiling faces; those smiles were from hypocrites.

My siblings, who had gone to church ahead of me, made the matter worse. They were just laughing and exchanging glances. I had to go home even before the benediction.

My sisters did not stop laughing even when I got home. What an embarrassment! Then, in my annoyance, I took out all my clothes, washed, dried, and spread them on the line that same day. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it, and that person is me.

I also make sure that I don't allow my laundry to fill up before washing my clothes. I make sure to stand up for myself whenever I can because I can't afford to be ridiculed.

Another most Bugus chores I detest is washing of dishes. Not only me, even my siblings. My mother created a roster for us then for dish washing but we someone find a way to release the work on our last born.

We would give him some money so he can help to wash dishes but along the line he changed as he matured he started demanded higher amount or even refuse to do it claiming he's busy.

Canva

I was the first person to withdrew from the deal, I began to do my chores well because I don't have much money. When I finished my senior secondary school, my mum made sure that only my junior sibling wash dishes, clean the house, all I do is cook and I loved it.

Although, when I was in 100 level I couldn't help but do every chores by myself, because no one would it for me. Sometimes I would leave plates for two or three days before washing not until I discovered maggots in my plate one day.
It was so irritating that I nearly throw up, since that day I always washed my plates immediately.

Therefore, I trained myself to be hard-working and selfless, and even when I have the strength, I don't care if I'm living with a dirty person because I will always clean up.

I came across this question while scrolling through the communities a few days ago so I decided to write something !

CHATGPT

1. How do you find the strength to keep moving forward when the world tries to make you feel small?

Life is full of ups and downs, people work hard and still feel hard not because they were doing anything but because life was cruel on people. The person who knows how to drive the journey of life well has not been born yet.

Whenever I find myself doing much and earning little, I tell myself the truth, I am not the only one suffering on earth. I am still better than somebody but by the grace of God I won't remain where I am today, I will succeed. These positive affirmations are what keeps me going each day, each time, every minute.

It is not how far you go that matters anyways, it is how well you know because all that matters is life is living a peaceful life, positive mindset, good relationship with others, acknowledging our maker and continue surviving. That is life!

2. When life challenges you, where do you find the courage to stand back up and keep going?

When life presents challenges, standing back up might be difficult, but with strong determination, you keep winning.

If you watch a toddler trying to walk, you will discover that as she falls, she keeps standing up. This becomes fun, and while doing that, she masters the act of persistence. She will stand up one day, walk, and you will be surprised at how she did it; it's a miracle coupled with effort and strength.

Whenever I'm going through a difficult time, one thing I always try to preserve is my peace of mind. Once my mental health is secured, I have no issue with standing up.

To achieve this, I listen to music, play games, and listen to Christian messages, especially those that match what I'm facing, whether it's financial stress, relationship issues, family pressure, and so forth. I also try to speak with someone, a person I can confide in. Trust me, in a few hours, I'm already relieved and happy.

Life is about moving; if you stop, everything stops too. Keep winning.
#LOH305

Recently, I joined a writing community
Where a particularly popular non-governmental ) (NGO) owner
Usually sponsors poets. He or she awards
Three poets who come out best in their craft.
This occurs every month. They submit their poems privately,
And at the peak of the following month,
The three runner-ups will be announced.

I am inspired to write a poem;
I love the write-ups and admire the winners.
I want to give it a try,
Just that I don't often feel inspired to write poetry.
I write more prose than poems,
But one day, I will definitely write a poem
Just for the competition, not necessarily to win.
I could write a poem for fun
While participating in the monthly contest too.
Thanks for reading.

Benjamin is a tall, handsome man in his early thirties. He has a dark complexion and is six feet , with a bit of extra weight. He has been a successful writer over the years, starting to write when he was fourteen years old, focusing on prose and drama.

Since then, he has thrived in the business nonstop. There are times when he faces criticism in one way or another, but he never gives up. He has a particular friend whom he met at a book launch of one of his colleagues, and they have developed a close relationship since then.

However, while Benjamin has triumphed, Donald finds it difficult to even publish a book. Benjamin has helped him several times, but he gets little or no readers to buy his books.

Therefore, Donald has developed bad feelings toward Benjamin. He thinks Benjamin has some charm that makes him continually thrive more than he does.

Every year, Benjamin releases a new book, and it's always a bestseller, while Donald remains unknown, even though Benjamin has tried to help him several times.

He even advised Donald to change his niche, to stop writing drama and prose, and switch to poetry, which he was really good at, but Donald wouldn't listen.

He always feels that, so far, his friend is thriving in writing prose and dramas and is making it, so he can also do the same.

Nevertheless, Donald began to develop grudges and bitterness towards his friend Benjamin, and the innocent man was not even aware of it. So, after he released another book, Donald set up criticism against him.

He paid some people to criticize the book and make sure they brought down Benjamin's image. But even though the criticism was very harsh, it didn't affect him.

He kept moving forward, and after a few months, he was able to get over the bad criticism of his book, and everything went back to normal.

Then, on a second attempt, Donald attempted to blackmail blackmail his friend, Benjamin.

He wanted to blackmail him for stealing people's writing and stories and publishing them. He secretly published a news story that the headline claimed Benjamin buys stories and that none of his stories are originally written by him.

This almost destroy the successful writer's career. But after some time, he was okay, and everything was able to be rectified. However, the person behind all this has not been identified yet.

AI

Then, on the last attempt, when those two schemes did not work, Donald went the extra mile to seek a diviner to invoke charms and make Benjamin go blind for some years so that he would not be able to write or do anything again.

He paid the man handsomely, and the work started. Unfortunately, the effect of the evil charm turned against him, and he was the one who became blind instantly.

The man had already warned him that the person he was trying to blind was not just anyone and had a force backing him up. But he wouldn't listen.

He said he should go ahead. Now, Donald is the one who can't see. However, after a few months, Benjamin noticed the disappearance of his friends so he visited by going to his house, where he discovered that Donald was blind and could not see anything.

Benjamin was confused and worried for his friend. He was curious and heartbroken, cried pitifully for his friend's predicament which the cause was unknown to him yet.

He tried to save him medically but to no avail. It was getting worse, and the doctors even advised him against trying another surgery else it would adversely affect other parts of his body, especially his brain. No remedy, only a miracle can open his eyes.

Benjamin felt pity for his friend. Then one day, Donald confessed everything he had done.

He then asked the question, "How do you do it? How do you always escape all these arrows aimed at you? How do you always come back? How do you always win?"

Benjamin responded and told him that behind every successful man is a strong woman. "My mom has been the director behind the scenes of my life."

Each time I'm at war, losing my peace of mind, feeling weak and angry I go to her; she prays for me, encourages me, and makes sure every single day starts off well.

When I was blackmailed, she took it seriously, showed concern, arranged for help, and even worked on eliminating the source. She was behind me all along, "said Benjamin".

Also, when my books were being criticized, she told me that criticism is a step to improve yourself and not to bring you down. I believed in her words and keep moving.

I attended a government secondary school namely (U.M.C.A Comprehensive High School).
The school is not really standard, you know, Naija government schools in rural areas. One day, I made the decision to change from being a science student to an art student, not knowing that I was going to join a group of hoodlums and students with no future ambitions.

My class, the Art class, was the worst from SS1 to SS3 because no teacher ever used their full period in my class. Either the teacher left the class angrily, and we all ran after him begging him to come back, but even after he did, we would still return to our noise-making. It got to a point where the principal had to move us from our classroom to another building entirely.

The place was an old building that had turned into a public toilet; we constantly inhaled the smell of urine and defecation for many weeks before the odor died down. No teacher was ready to enter our class.

AI

Another crazy thing is that the new classroom is close to the bush; therefore, once it is 2 PM, almost 80% of my classmates have gone home, and I get tired. Then I composed a fine letter to the principal, pleading that he return us to our normal classroom, promising that we wouldn't make noise or cause trouble again.

He did, after a few weeks, and we were back in our classroom. But it only got worse because in my class, we had a group of bad singers, a group of gossipers, and lovers' gossip mates, and it seems only two of us in my class are serious. Once it's past break time, the singers start singing their rubbish, especially songs about hunger and getting food; then the comedians will start. I hardly have time to read; my classroom is an entertainment center.

The principal got tired and took a very serious step: he told me to write the names of noise makers to him every day. I did it very well, made sure I persuaded teachers to come and teach my class, and also begged my classmates to cooperate, and it worked.

This happened in SS 3, first term and second term because we were soon to write WAEC. I can never forget my classmates' set; it is really an odd class - full of entertainment.

He lies down like a lifeless body. His parent wipe tears frequently from their faces, offering silent prayers for their first child's recovery.

James had been very brilliant boy right from his childhood. He became sick when he was about rounding up in college. He was rushed to the college clinic by his colleagues one morning after he fainted on the walkway. He was later referred to the State Hospital where he would be properly treated. He had Severe Pneumonia.

Miracles can happen, but it is certain that he wouldn't make it after a few days; these were the doctor's last words earlier that day.

James, the younger and second son, was eavesdropping when his parents met with the doctor. He simply left the hospital to go sit at the reception.

As soon as James sat down, he drifted into a heavy sleep. When he awoke, he found himself strolling beside the road, then he crossed to the other side. It seemed like he needed to move faster; while doing so, he saw an old truck just about to take off, and he quickly jumped on it.

The truck drove a very long distance. When the driver finally stopped on a shady road, he went to the back of the truck to check his tire. James hid himself in a corner, covering himself with the sack he found in the truck. All of a sudden, the driver spoke in a calm voice, "Young man, you should go back home before you lose your brother," he said after dropping a letter in the truck.

James was anxious when he heard the man's voice; it was soft yet echoed through the air, and no one seemed to see him. However, James uncovered himself and found no one but a purple letter on top of the truck. He picked it up and read what was inside.

The letter read: "Read this into the ears of your brother three times, and he shall live. You have 10 minutes; otherwise, your brother dies."

James lost control instantly; the thought of losing his only brother tormented him. He ran as fast as he could back to the hospital. It seemed like he had wings while going back.

pixabay
He used only 8 minutes running at high speed, an unimaginable feat. When he got to the hospital, he wasn't allowed in because there was an emergency. His brother was gasping for breath while some nurses and a doctor were trying to stabilize him.

"I can't let him die like this," James thought as he forced his way in, despite the restrictions. He wouldn't give up; at that point, he shouted his brother's name, "John." Then he opened the purple letter and read the words aloud. He did that three times as instructed, and then his parents came and took him away so he wouldn't disturb the doctors.

BACK TO THE HOSPITAL

James woke up suddenly. He had been dreaming all this while, still sitting at the reception. Then he remembered his dying brother and rushed to the ward to see a miracle. His brother, John, was sitting up, eating, and even interacting with their mom and dad.

James ran to embrace him. He thought he had lost his brother to the cold hands of death but couldn't comprehend how he had overcome it.
I heard your voice; your echoes resounded in my ears while I was sleeping, John said, still holding James in a tight embrace.

You came in and read a letter to me. The words were real, and the letters flew into my nostrils. I sneezed thrice because you read it thrice, so I am awake now, and I'm totally healed.

"Wow, is it real?" I thought I was dreaming, James said in amazement as he moved away from his brother. "What were those words in the letter?" he asked further.

"You shall not die, you shall live. Arise!"
"You shall not die, you shall live. Arise!!"
"You shall not die, you shall live. Arise!!!"

Then I saw those words arranged in a line, flying towards me like butterflies.
John repeated,
"Awesome!" James responded, still confused because it all happened in his dream. Moreover, his brother was discharged the following morning.

I felt no guilt at all after checking on my friend who hadn't reached out in a long while. She suddenly left the group we created, the five of us, a few months after graduation.

We gisted together, shared information, prayed for one another, and soon one of us is getting married. I had an idea on how to support our dear friend's wedding. Should we buy gifts, give her money, or both? Everyone responded except Rita.

That was when I realized that she had left the group without notifying anyone. Out of good conscience, I messaged her directly and asked after her well-being. She responded in a few hours, and then I asked again why she left the group. She said there were no reasons. "Okay, should we add you back?" I asked further. "No need, don't add me back," she replied.

I asked one of us who was close to her to check on her, which she did, and Rita said the same thing to her. Therefore, my mind was settled, and I feel no guilt for her decisions.

He went through every details one after the other. As he was che, he heard footsteps approaching so he took the cash book, hid it in his bag.

When it was clear that no one is coming, he took the register home. He wanted to punish his colleagues, the cashier for hitting on him some days ago.

Andrew had asked him to lend him some money which the cashier said he didn't have it, so Andrew tried to tell him to take from the school money in his hand which he blatantly refused. You should take off your eyes away from someone else money said the cashier.

Those words got at him, since then, he had been scheming on how to destroy the cashier. So, he thought of stealing the cash book to make him suffer humiliation and confusion at work which may probably cost him his job.

Fortunately, the following day, Andrew intentionally came late to work with the hope to meet chaos in the staff room but on the contrary, school runs smoothly. He was summoned immediately by the school principal.

The principal told him about the missing cash register and how everyone had been bothered about it since they resumed work. Yes sir, I always knew that the cashier is a big thief, he purposely want to create an invisible error so he could steal money, Andrew said.

Oh , I see, but the security saw you stealing it from the cashier's locker, said Mr. Principal.
Andrew tried to denied but he failed to give a straight answer .

He was dismissed after recovering the book from him, then the cashier was also queried for being too careless with the book.

Never forget those you innocently turned down, be alerted, some are wicked.

Thanks for reading 🙏🙏

Adeola and Rebecca had been friends since their 100 level. They were so close that people thought they were dating, but the two had never fallen in love with each other. They remained focused on their studies. Adeola is a young man in his early twenties; he is studying Mass Communication at the Federal Polytechnic.

He is an erudite scholar and loves reporting, which is why he chose the course. He wants to become a journalist. He met Rebecca in the department during the second semester; she was there to submit some documents for clearance, as was Adeola.

"Excuse me, sis, please where is the HOD's (Head of Department) office?" he had asked politely. "You are at the right place, colleague; just queue up behind me before it gets crowded," Rebecca responded respectfully.

Adeola thought of her as a very kind young lady, and from that day on, they became not just coursemates but close friends with their relationship boundaries strongly defined.

They read together, play games, do assignments, take tests, and study hard for exams together.

The two are like twins; one would always see them together every day. One fateful day, Adeola went to visit his girlfriend so they could study for an examination as they always did.

To his utmost surprise, he met Rebecca talking and laughing out loud with another man, acting all lovely just like the way the two of them used to be. He didn't alert them but went back home disappointed. He couldn't say a word; neither did he read his books.

Adeola began to avoid Rebecca from that day. If he saw her from afar, he would take another route. In the exam hall, he ignored all her glances and concentrated on his papers; with no communication, no checkups, and no contact, he just wanted to sign out and forget her forever.

On the day of their last paper, Rebecca—who had been worried about him for staying quiet for three weeks—challenged him while he was standing in front of the exam hall waiting for the invigilator.

"I'm sure something is eating you up, Ade. It's fine if you don't want to talk about it, but you know it's affecting us," Rebecca said after she tiptoed up to him in order to get his attention; she spoke from behind him.

unsplash

Adeola started moving away but she wouldn't back down; she kept following him around , talking. "Why are you doing this to us, Ade!" she finally yelled at him. "Us? You mean there is actually an 'US'? You're just my friend; there is no 'US'," Adeola snapped. "Wait a minute, what do you mean by those words?" Rebecca asked calmly and curiously.

"Oh, now you're pretending, right? Oh please!" Adeola said. "What? I still don't get you, Ade. I'm pretending? About what?" she asked. Ade scoffed and remained silent.
Ade, we've been through this journey together as close friends.

No one has ever made me happy in this world like you used to do. You treated me like a queen every day, you protected me like a father, and you met my needs sometimes. I'm very grateful for all this. Have I shown any symptoms of being an ingrate to you before? I may not know, but if I have obliviously done that, I am very sorry. I miss you so much, Ade. Rebecca apologizes.

Adeola was quiet for a few seconds, sighed, paused again before finally saying a word. "I've heard you, but the day I came to your place, I saw that... you already have a partner, and that you're laughing and playing together.

So, I don't want to disturb your relationship; that is why I left that day and decided to start minding my own business," Adeola explained.

Are you serious? Oh my... Rebecca giggled. The guy in my room that day was my elder brother, my immediate family.

He came for an interview around this vicinity, so he called me for accommodation. He left very early the following day for the interview and then went back home. If you had come that day, I would have told you about him, Rebecca said.

"Oh really? I'm so sorry, I didn't know he was your brother," Adeola said apologetically.

"Ade, do you have feelings for me?" Rebecca asked all of a sudden.

Adeola's heart began to beat faster when he heard those words, but he managed to respond, "Not just a feeling; I truly love to spend the rest of my life with you, 'Becca' (the short form of Rebecca)."

"I love you too, Ade," Rebecca smiled and hugged him softly.
