Next time I start reading a book, I’m going to skip the prologue.

I have several books at home that I want to begin reading. Yesterday, during a brief moment with electricity, and while preparing dinner, I decided to start one of them. I began reading the prologue. I don’t do it to follow any rule or suggestion, but because in prologues I almost always find some interesting detail left by the person who wrote it.

Rain of Spoilers

I exaggerate a bit with this subtitle, but thinking it over I believe it’s fair. The book I started is called The Hunchback or Henry of Lagardère. It belongs to Paul Fecal. But in the prologue of the edition I have, they revealed too many details of the story. They tell us there are two people who are enemies of each other. The reason for the dispute is also unveiled. Then they talk about the hunchback and already hint that there will be a revelation of identity in his character that will change the course of events.

Too much information! But in my naïve innocence I moved on to the first chapter, and from the title I realized I already knew what was going to happen in it. I couldn’t skip the first page. But not only because of the spoilers, but due to a combination of them, finishing cooking, and the electricity, which was cut off a few minutes later.

This situation is very similar to the phrase “don’t judge a book by its cover,” except that with so much information, I feel I have enough evidence to judge whether I want to consume it or not. Eventually I will finish reading the book. But I feel the expectation is no longer the same.

There’s no mystery. There’s no plot to discover. Unfortunately, from my point of view, they spoiled the author’s work. Perhaps other editions were more accurate and didn’t reveal so much of the material. Or maybe I’m simply the one who’s mistaken, and prologues aren’t meant to be read, or should be left for the end.

I won’t read prologues anymore.

I need money!

The economic situation in my country keeps causing problems for its people. I’m one of those who barely have enough to get by day to day. Since I found #hive, it has been one of my escape valves from a monetary point of view.

I also sell some products, mainly natural foods like gofio, cocoa, and coffee. The latter I’ve sold sporadically, always trying to formalize it, though I’ve never quite managed.

So right now, coffee won’t just be my main source of energy to start the day or to spend an afternoon among friends or strangers—it will also be one of the essential points to help me make it to the end of the month, and who knows, maybe even give me a slightly better quality of life.

At the moment, there’s a lot of coffee out on the streets. To the point that the price has dropped a little. But finding cheap coffee doesn’t guarantee quality, which is basically what my friend and I offer with ours.

Warmth, flavor, and aroma as good as—or better than—legally registered brands that arrive in our country through importation. We keep selling “expensive,” because we know our product is very good.

And now, to top it off, I came up with a small commercial, using some videos from Pixabay and editing with Canva. I’ve already posted it on my social networks, and I think this marks a before and after. Regular customers are starting to notice that things are getting serious.

I truly regret not being able to offer each member of the community a little taste of the coffee we have here. The feedback you can give us is very valuable, because we know there’s no better review than that of a coffee addict.

Ps:I did try leave the mini commercial at the end. But it has stock images.

Sleeping is something we all must do. It’s a matter of health, according to several studies and medical authors.

A couple of days ago, I stayed awake all night. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t fall asleep. Around 5 in the morning, I gave up and opened my eyes for good. For some reason, Trump came to mind, with his eternal obsession with being the center of attention.

Specifically, I was thinking about when the president of FIFA awarded him the Peace Prize, just days after the Nobel Peace Prize was given to María Corina Machado, a Venezuelan politician. Many said that Trump’s award was nothing more than a crude consolation for him.

No, this post is not about Trump

What is peace? Why so many prizes to people who have not brought peace but rather unrest and hatred to much of the planet? Could it be that we confuse its meaning? Or better yet… why a Peace Prize at all, if we’ve never truly lived in peace?

History is full of conflicts that, when they seem to end, are quickly replaced by others elsewhere or simply mutate and spread. As soon as someone or some group wants what others already have, the seed of conflict is sown.

If we bring this down to society, we see family disputes, domestic violence, bullying in schools. Surely there are governments working to reduce the impact of these evils, but it seems the great sellers of vanity win the battle, because in this consumerist life we lead, values don’t seem to matter.

So we return to the essence. Could it be that human beings are bound to live among conflicts? Is peace simply utopia?

Honestly, I think we were better off when we were primitive. Surely there were tribes that couldn’t stand each other, but among the people of their own “neighborhood,” there wasn’t so much dispute. Therefore, I believe peace is simply a trait of humanity that we lost with evolution—in other words, we don’t really need it.

What we do need is to be able to sleep at least 8 hours a day. That is non-negotiable. As for the rest, if you want peace, start by lighting a bonfire with your neighbors.

Pues bien.

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmfA3ZGgU8zocuU1bZD5NMHzGsk2AHiQefvEBneHZrad2f/1792254464040.jpg)

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmexDnBqscVpjUKaNk5nF8F6eoX8jXJJwFpGBsmTchEePF/1792254582674.jpg)

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmbxttaPhye5zgsL6SoFsHedX2Qd64JSCTPakRv5pkuBEn/1792254520670.jpg)

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmRBvDG85bjHg72XVcL81ivfcCixtkg1XwsdYXj7tTUhV7/1792254762348.jpg)

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmWHys6ghYmwZcFFYfSjpwQSqc97ikMaWEexC6tpuV4ayv/1792254801342.jpg)

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmZNw1uK58bogWsXm9wcogfdszXhEAiHHWEBK134RPejbR/1792254706822.jpg)

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmSrPjts6t3fHzNzJqQuAgyJ8Vb4F2nGySijnFRZHP8C9q/1792254855670.jpg)

¿Cómo echarlo a andar?

Necesitas:

It is also the first novel I’ve read written by him. It’s a short novel, with a simple theme, but one that has knocked on the door for more than one of us at some point.

It tells the story of Andrés, a teenager almost about to enter university. Like any adolescent, his daily life is full of ordinary situations—some annoying, others more pleasant.

In the midst of his problems and dreams, Cristina appears: a woman devoted to painting, though perhaps to other things as well, with whom he falls madly in love. The only problem here is that she is at least ten years older than him. From this point begins a journey of temptations and uncertainties that reminds us of that teacher or neighbor we once fell in love with but never dared to speak to.

Andrés was a little braver—and even luckier.

The edition I hold in my hands was published by Letras Cubanas in 1988. Padura wrote it between 1983 and 1984, according to what he notes on the last page of the novel.

It’s 172 pages that I managed to read in just two days, thanks to Padura’s fresh writing style. The text is full of typical Cuban phrases from that era—many of which still persist, while others have simply fallen out of use. What I enjoyed most were precisely the dialogues.

It felt like traveling back in time, comparing Cuban society of the 1980s with how different we are today, even though not so many years have passed.

Honestly, it was pleasant to begin reading Padura. I had heard a lot about his novels, so it was truly satisfying not to be disappointed, as sometimes happens when expectations are too high.

I’ve had my small issues with gambling. Nothing catastrophic—just a bit of money that at the time would have been very useful, but in the short term I managed to get out of that bind. Still, from that day on I swore never to gamble as a way of making a living or simply for fun.

Now I only bet on very rare occasions, when I feel inspired by a very specific event that catches my attention. For example, the MLB Postseason is underway, and a couple of days ago I decided to wager a small amount of money that the two teams playing wouldn’t score more than three runs combined by the fifth inning.

I almost won the bet, but at the last moment the situation I had chosen simply collapsed. The amount I bet doesn’t even reach one dollar, according to the exchange rate, so the annoyance of losing only lasted a few minutes.

Then yesterday I was able to attend one of the games live. It had been years since I could do that. I had to walk a long way to get there. Once inside, enjoying the game, the proposals that never fail on television arrived: commercials.

And who were they promoting in those commercials at that moment? Exactly: betting houses and casinos.

Right away I asked myself: how can you not bet? They’re stimulating you during every pause to throw your money away at random. And it’s not just one or two betting houses, but several, including their apps and their super bonuses for registering.

They even have the nerve to place hashtags in the corner of the screen with phrases like “gamble aware” or “be gamble aware.” I imagine it’s like cigarette packs that also warn consumers that smoking causes cancer.

In the end, I’m somewhat glad that this kind of television isn’t practiced in my country. Of course, in exchange we get a good dose of indoctrination.

Anyway, my advice for today is: don’t get involved in gambling. Unless you know a secret that can change the results—or you simply have a DeLorean that can travel through time. In that case, bet your savings and become a millionaire.

The plan was to bring, along with a friend, a batch of coffee beans that had already been roasted.

This post was meant to seal a different kind of relationship with coffee, but between the weather conditions that day and some changes in plans beyond my control, the trip was postponed. I can say that it annoyed me a little, but by midday the sun was out, and it almost felt like it had never rained at all.

I told myself: Hey, let’s go to Sombreritos y Tragos and order the cappuccino we always use as a benchmark for whether a place serves good coffee.

And so it was. I went out in search of the cappuccino test. This time, as I mentioned, it was midday. I’ve already told you that you have to come to this place early in the morning, since it’s a terrace and doesn’t have enough shade.

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmdB4wqioPymJNsqiUaY6Scv4k2N3QvENcTZ7CreGTrvFr/img_20261009_144117.jpg)Sun was everywhere

You can imagine the heat was unbearable. I spoke with the waitress about the possibility of umbrellas in the future, and she kindly replied, “Yes, we’re already working on it.” So I went ahead and ordered the cappuccino.

But no way, when the order arrived, the disappointment was huge. I had never had such a poorly made cappuccino. Apparently, the girl in charge (who is also the waitress) is still learning, but even so, the flavor was not pleasant at all. On top of that, the cup wasn’t ideal either. There was no handle, and with it being so hot, there was no way to drink until the temperature dropped a bit (which didn’t happen very quickly, by the way).

![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmTyWB8bZmKcXCShUQP2n8n6n3UTTX2NpPoqKqGjiNXKiv/img_20261009_144558.jpg)This Capuccino wasn't feel good

That coffee, combined with the blazing sun, made my visit short so, I didn’t want to stay there any longer. So I learned my lesson: only go to Sombreritos y Tragos early in the morning, and never order cappuccino. Always stick to the espresso, which is really good.

The day was tainted by those bad moments, but I suppose that same day there were also people who didn’t drink coffee at all and that’s an even worse and sadder situation, don’t you think?
